  1. Quillback, I don't disagree with anything you said. The problem with both candidates is they are saying the things they think they need to "Make America Great Again", awesome, how. At this point both are pretty short on details or specifics. Let's level the playing field on manufacturing and imporing goods. Have a court that subsidizes manufacturing so it can be sold cheaper in the US, well that's what tariffs are for. Make a HUGE push to make and buy American, help kids who want to go to college (not free, although things like the A Plus program are great, my son is taking advantage of it now). The little school/town here, so many kids were on free or reduced lunches, that they decided to make all school lunches for the kids free. My daughter and son in law both have jobs, and are never more than one large expense or missed paycheck from bankrupt. They can't afford daycare for my grandson, and can't afford to lose one of their jobs either. It is very tough economically right now for most people and I think the draw of Trump is that he is different. Don't know that he is better than anyone else but at least different.
  2. I hear ya spoondog, I am similar but on the other side. I know a lot of what Trump claims to want and will do, I also know he doesn't have the authority to do almost any of it, and honestly I am counting on the rest of Congress (can't believe I said that) to keep him under control, the reason I am counting on them is that we as citizens have the ability to flood them with our opinions and more than anything they like to please so them will be re elected. I would have to stay home before I could vote for HC, and the SCOTUS is ultimately to me more important, their decisions/opinions will affect us for the next 50 years. I may throw up a little when I vote this time.

    What's Cooking?

Red Snapper? I couldn't give up pasta either, too many things it works so well in and with. Heck all I have to do to make my son happy is take left over spaghetti noodles, toss them with butter, soy and teriyaki sauces and turn him loose. Full stir fry with noodles instead if rice, pasta salad is a staple for me in summer, not to mention all the italias type options, beef or chicken and noodles. Dang now I am hungry, wonder what I have in the fridge.
  4. This will be the first residential since I turned 18 that I will not vote for any candidate. However I vote against one. If this was a list of applicants for a job and I was the selection official I would send it back with the words "good joke, now send me the real list"

    What's Cooking?

Tonight I had a pork loin thawed and ready for the grill, however I was short of time and it was a little thicker than I wanted to wait for. Solution, butterfly the whole thing and toss it in. Add in a skillet of pan roasted cauliflower, and the required fresh maters and cukes. Ever find yourself stuck in a seasoning rut? I bout some Old Bay a week or two ago for something, since then it is always out on the counter, because I am terrible about putting stuff away, as a result nearly everything gets at least a small dose of Old Bay, so far it has been working out well, good to be lucky when you are lazy.
  6. No argument, The operator did not intend to run out of gas, but it happened just the same.
  7. I dot see it as a big boat vs little boat, it's just a mix of boating types and all have the same right to be there. There is a point where common sense has to come into play, (boating or kayaking in the fog is a perfect example) and you simply can't legislate common sense. I always used to say everyone packed everything to go to the lakes, except their common sense. I think many of th boaters (whether little boats, kyaks or pontoon) are not regular boaters on Taneycomo and simply don't realize how it is with fog, or how fast another boat or dock can apear when running in fog. But again as Bill said first Taneycomo over the years has been a very safe lake for boat to boat collisions, hope it stays that way forever.

    What's Cooking?

My maters slowed for a while, but now they are going gangbusters again. Exception is 4 that my wife has, well had in pots, they have simply dies, 2 were cherries and 2 were romas, didnt even know you could kill them. Some of he big ones are sunburned pretty bad and don't last long on the picnic table under the tree in the yard. Will have to take another load to the lady who is willing to can them for half of them.
  9. Heck it might be a small Jon boat that gets run over instead of a kayak. For such a small, congested body of water, I remember very very few accidents of boat collisions on Taneycomo.
  10. After this morning I have altered an old saying to better fit the situation. "Those who fail to fuel, will fuel their failure". and that is all I have to say about this morning.
  11. I have expected for years to find them on Pomme, so far we have been lucky, at least we have not been able to identify any on/in the lake. The Zebra mussels were originally brought to the US by ballast tanks in big ships, so it certainly wouldn't be surprising to have them transported in the ballast tanks of a wake boat. There are ways to de-con them but I seriously doubt that anyone does it. I am not gonna give up on keeping them out, honestly am still not sure why they are not in Pomme, Stockton, Truman, or Table Rock, keep expecting to see a report of finding them. I also keep expecting to hear the silver or bigheads in LOZ as they are below the dam, thinking someone will be throwing a net for shad and transport them to the lake, but again, haven't heard of any. Sure would change the ideas of riding a tube behind a boat as being fun.

    What's Cooking?

I should have taken a photo of my supper, by far the best looking I have had in a while. Since it was my anniversary and birthday today some good friends took my wife and I to Springfield to eat at Nakatos Japan's steakhouse, one of my favorite places. Sushi, scallops, shrimp, beef fillets etc. But I was eating too fast to take a pic. Tomorrow is grandson watching day, will be back to string cheese, Wal Mart rotisserie chicken, which I like by the way.

    What's Cooking?

I suspect many a hillbilly has gone here before, however I have not consumed even one beer yet, so that part is a little different. Besides it dont look too bad.
  17. Latell July and early August used to be good times for slow cranked crawdad crankbaits. But I will be the first to say, I am a wuss, I aint gonna fish when it's this hot to catch something I am just going to throw back. Unless it involves wading around in the Niangua for smallies, i.e. "i.e. hillbilly trout fishing". When that start putting out warning about little kids and old folks to stay in due to the heat, thats when the Niangua calls my name.

    What's Cooking?

Dadgum those all sound so good I had to hide my supper in foil. I am all about not cooking anything inside today. Finished mowing, and while cleaning up I was think about supper, hmm hamburgers, boring, my wife makes the meatloaf in the family, maybe I can make a burger loaf? 2 lb ground beer, 1 lb ground venisin, no sausage in freezer so I chopped up 3 slices of bacon to add. Half a big Vidalia onion diced up, couple big handfuls of shredded cheese, couple eggs, soy, teriyaki, and a semi random mixture of spices and stuff out of the pantry. If I had some chantrelles you can bet it would have included them too. No idea how long it will take to cook on the grill, hope the gas holds out.
  19. If it was in a dark closet it will be fine. If in doubt pull off a few yards, wrap it around your hands and give it a pull. At worst the outside wraps might be weAK but rest should be fine. I had Stren that was 15 to 20 years old and was always in the bix, in a junk room, finally gave it away when I switched to braid.
  20. Holy Crap, that is not going to buff out.
  21. Thought I would give a quick explanation of how easy it is to miss a zebra mussel when inspecting your boat, or dock for them. The photo below is a young "adult" zebra mussel. I was asked to inspect a large vessel for them today, fortunately also had an MDC agent along, as I simply didn't see the little things, I was looking for larger ones. Took the Agent about 10 seconds to find them, and then you could see them all over the hull. The the company's credit they are going to do the right thing and take the vessel to be fully de contaminated, via hot water power washing, and a 5 day dry time along with heavy bleaching of the bilges.
  22. Lots of shad schools swirling around right now. Have talked to a few crappie fishermen and they are catching some good fish, having to work a little for them, but much as jwilson48 said, brushpiles in the 10-20 fow. As I have aged, (not particularly well I might add) I discover that I have a lot less tolerance for heat than I used to, so I will wait for fall.
  23. I have actually intended to buy a buff a time or two to help keep me from getting sunburned, but I will be danged if I am gonna give $20 or more for a fancy bandanna. Besides it would probably be forgotten at home, and be sitting right next to the 2 or 3 bottles and cans of various sunblock that I forgot to take. Would think by now that I have enough of it scattered around I could always find some, but you would be wrong.
  24. I am glad I seldom fish the bigger rivers, usually when I fish moving water it is pretty skinny, a canoe would be dragging a lot to get through them. I have no problem with LE writing tickets for littering, in fact it is the one thing I wish they would write more of. And yes if they were all fishermen, heck or even just fishing it would surely affect the fishery. Every sport or enjoyable activity has its population of idiots doing there level best to ruin it for everyone.
  25. I started with some 4# braid, fireline, I had more cuts from trying to break that stuff than any butchering work I have ever done. I prefer the 6# around brush and river work, usually can straighten out a jig hook and just bend it back into shape.
