  1. From the National Park Service: "Two of America's clearest and most beautiful spring-fed rivers make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, the first national park area to protect a wild river system". "Is this a state or national park? Many people are surprised to learn that the Ozark National Scenic Riverways is a national park, just like Yellowstone or Gettysburg. The three largest campground areas, Alley Spring, Big Spring and Round Spring all used to be Missouri State Parks and some people still refer to “Alley Spring State Park,” which adds to the confusion. These three places stopped being “State Parks” in 1969 when the people of Missouri generously donated them to the federal government as the anchors for the new Ozark National Scenic Riverways. They were essentially the gift of Missouri to the nation."
  2. My two cents... I don't think the problem is the numbers of rentals. I think it is why the people are renting them. When someone goes to Yellowstone or any of the great national parks, they normally go to be awed by the experience and beauty. I would bet most of the people who go this national park (let's not forget that is what it is), go to drink and party. When that is primary goal, why do you care if there are extra horse trails, new houses, the temp of the water, etc. The fact of the matter is money talks, and we as fisherman, naturalists, and such, will never out man or out spend the river party rats. If your local and make a living off of that, why would you want it to change. Unfortunately, I think it is a lost cause. I hope not, but I think so.
  3. Al, I can't speak to your client list, but I would assume some of them got that way because they are good with money. The fact that you use and endorse a less expensive brand rod shouldn't be a problem. Besides I would question how many of these clients have those rods because the salesman saw them coming.
  4. JoeD are you serious? Check out the section called Other Regions: Fishing Discussions and Reports. So maybe he put the post in the wrong thread. Ed...consider your hand slapped...Keep on posting. Seriously...
  5. That was a good write up.
  6. Sweet...when's the fish fry.
  7. Option 3. If the water currents are not crazy, tie the smaller dry as a 8 to 12 inch dropper off a larger fly that you can see and grease the line. If you can see a hit behind the larger fly set the hook. I use a 12 royal wulff and a 20 Griffin's Gnat and have good luck on flat water and great luck on broken water. On this set up, micro drag becomes your biggest problem so shorten up you drifts if you have to. I think that is why I do so much better on riffles and such.
  8. 1. Scud 2. Giffin's Gnat 3. Elk Hair 4. Pheasant Tail 5. Brassie
  9. LOL
  10. Holy CAT Batman.
  11. I wasn't trying to compare the Mo and a toilet. I grew up on the Mo in NE Kansas and have ate plenty of big Mo cats. In England the "lou" is a bathroom... like a fag is a smoke. Bash is whacking the weenie Batty is gay Beaver is a beard Boob tube is tube top
  12. I'm glad you added the video... After my years in Europe and Queen's English, I thought you were fishing for brownies in the toilet.
  13. Yea its the same. Your supposed to hold it by the bend of the hook (behind the point) so that doesn't happen. How where you holding it? I'm not saying I never get nicked trying to get the grip on it, but never impailed. Sorry but.... ---------- Was that the biggest thumb you ever caught? You could use that fly for catfishing...blood bait? Fly $2.50, Leader $5, Line $40, Reel $80, Rod $250, Impailing yourself to the hook bend priceless? WHO'S DA THUMB?
  14. I ask because... I use this fly mostly in broken water runs with a midge dropper. Most of the time, I end up cutting off the dropper because it is working on top. I also seem to have more luck after the fly has been used and looking a little shaggy. I noticed that if I don't split the wing or only put one figure eight in, it looks more like the "shaggy" verision. So I was curious if I should start from there. Plus, its brokent water. I figured the trout wouldn't get a good look at it. I just tied two each way...I'll let you know.
  15. Aaron, what is a mono sighter.
  16. On the Royal Wulff patter, how critical is it that you split the (white calf) wings?
  17. I've used small cranks in broken water with good luck, but not in the still pools. In reference to the 9' rod...try sling shot'ing it will really open up some water for you.
  18. Welcome to the forum...page is bookmarked.
  19. That's cheating...
  20. I was helping my fourth grader and was completely stumped on these science words... How did you do? I didn't know how to pronounce the first two. cnidarian: echinoderm: cartilaginous:
  21. cnidarian: an invertebrate with poisonous stinger echinoderm: spiny skinned invertebrate (sea star) Cartilaginous: type of fish made mostly of cartilage
  22. I haven't not yet had the pleasure...but a quick look at the trout waters map shows that Crane Creek is up the road. You could try your luck for a wild McCloud trout, and check that one off your list.
  23. I'm the newest member...thanks Al.
  24. Cool Thanks.
