    What's Cooking?

it turned out great.. Easiest bread ? I ever made. Follow this, but for 100% wheat substitute 400 grams of both water and whole wheat flour. I didn't finish uncovered. I just pulled it in 35 minutes. http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/11376-no-knead-bread

  6. Teach grand children (a long way away) to fish.
  7. So, I had the pleasure of working until almost 7:00 yesterday, and was listening to the TED radio hour on a local NPR station for my 45 minute trip home. For those of you who don't know TED is a non-profit group that selects interesting and/or important stories, helps the story tellers with there presentations, and they then set up a function for them to tell the stories. Check out TED on YouTube (my favorite is Mike Rowe's story about working harder can be better then smarter). Anyway, this was a story about an artist that painted an abandon building in her neighborhood with chalk board paint. She wrote "Before I die, I want to:" and left a bucket of chalk. She was amazed to find out if filled up the space in short order. It has grown to other cities. So on this virtual blackboard - Before I die, I want to:
  8. My wife found this, and I told her I had to have it. Phil... we need this with OAF on it somewhere LOL
  9. I think you could almost tie a woolly on the after the rattle and yarn for the tail (over the hook eye). That would simplify it quite a bit. Here is a thought... could you add the rattle (I think it would float) to the front of a gurgler?
  10. Ham, I was kind of hoping but expecting a try with your tankura rod.
  11. Hey FlySmallie and Lancer... ever seen a cable tie fly? Pretty cool use of non-traditional material. Do a search on YouTube for Cable Tie Craw by Tightlinevideo. I don't know if I like the wet fly body, but the cable tie part is something I've never seen before. Edit... here is the link:
  12. Has anyone ever used a competition fly rod? When fishing the small water, I only have fly line out half the time. I saw these should work well for that and for roll and slingshot casting, which I do a lot of in tight water.

    Woolly Worm Dry

Interesting... Guess I should tie a couple and see how they do. Worse come to worse, I could always drop a midge of the end of it.

    Woolly Worm Dry

I was watching a YouTube video of a guy on the San Juan fishing a traditional red tail woolly worm on a dry fly hook with dry fly hackle. He was catching them on a river know for finicky fish. Now it could be one of those days where everything works, or.... Does anyone on here do that. Seems to me that there on times on the blue ribbons when the wilds really like big ugly dry flies. Maybe I should try it.

  17. LOL... they must really be "fishy". Oh I kill me. I will send out my address later in the month. I posted a note why above.
  18. Reminder to all... Please don't mail them until I ask for them. This helps make sure I don't lose the ones I get early. Also helps with communication.
  19. OK everyone... the field is set for this year's swap. I'm making one big change based on suggestion from one of you. I will be looking for eleven (11) flies from each of you. I do struggle with making sure everyone gets one from each of you. This means each of you will get one of your's back, but I won't accidentally give two of you your own flies. So... nine flies for each of you and two for Phil to try out. Is everyone good with completing flies by Feb 17th and shipping on the 18th, 19th, or 20th? 20. It isn't the trip down... it is the walk back up. Feel the burn; burn feels good.
  21. Beggars aren't choosers... I will use them for bass and bluegill. I need to "learn" how for trout. I do what the books say, but I never catch anything.
  22. At that point you should go with someone, leave a car at the park, and go from Suicide to the parking lot.
