  4. That would make sense.
  5. I if I sponsor a swap... would anyone want in?
  6. Could someone give me a recommendation. Feel free to reach out privately if you prefer. I'm looking for a floatable river about equal distance from Kansas City and St. Louis with a rental service. My best friend and I are looking to set up a fishing weekend in the spring. I have fished for smallmouth a bit, and he as never done it. I was thinking may the Niangua River maybe... half trout/half smallmouth. Any recommendation would be awesome. Thanks in advance... MIC
  7. Temps were ok for Dec. Sun popped out for maybe 30-45 minutes in the afternoon. There were two hatches in the afternoon, but the fish weren't really reacting to it. Most all of the breaks I saw were chasing emergers. One was a midge hatch. The second... well I'm not sure. I could not tell if is was a caddis or mayfly, but I assume it was a mayfly. It was maybe a hook size or two larger then the midges. Anyone know what it was or might be? Fishing was tough. I had my best luck on mini leach fly (see my post, report before this), but only when it was behind an olive woolly. I did get a bite or two, but no hookups when behind a black woolly, but it seemed that olive was the trick. Tried two leaches, but no go. Also, I normally have luck in most pools with this rig, but this day it only worked well below the different falls. I finished the day with two more swinging a crackleback in riffles. Talked to multiple folks, and fishing was tough all around. The only guy I saw doing very well was using a tan and white mop fly. He was really nice and gave me one to try, but I already decided to change to dry flies and site fish. I got a couple of refusals and one that nose tapped the fly. A gent above me got a few on emergers during the hatch, but only got one per fly... as he changed them out. A safety note... maybe ten-20 yards upstream of the bridge on the trail side on the trail there is a hole full of leaves. A guy stepped into and went in shin hi. I told some of the staff, but not sure if they did anything with it.
  8. Not sure when it happened, but it "appears" they did something with tubes going under the highway. They don't have a waterfall affect anymore, and that deep hole is gone. However, that is a good thing. Lets fish move up and down as they need to.
  9. I didn't think about that... may be the case. The rain events are good and bad. They clean out the creek and move stuff around, but DNR will not invest in trout projects because they get washed away over time (so I'm told).
  10. I was listening to (I think) last's week's Orvis Flyfishing Podcast. The topic was multi-species fishing in general, specifically on Lake Champagne. Anyway, Tom and the guest were going through the go to flies through the seasons and got to carp and called out the Clouser Swimming Nymph. The guest who was a guide said one of the issues with the fly was keeping the bass off it. I'm thinking if the bass like them, the pan fish might also. If correct, my be a fly to tie over the summer. Anyway... anyone ever use this pattern for bass... river or still waters?
  11. I made it down yesterday and spent a good chunk of the morning. I was trying out some flies and only fished streamers on my 6 weight. I had an alright day brought five or six to hand and losing a few more. Seemed like the fish were picky. If someone was catching fish they were catching them often enough for me and my buddy to notice. If they were not catching, they were not catching. I caught some on woolly's, but the bites picked up when I tried a (new to me) micro strip leach, Mayer's Mini Leech. I ended up losing a rig and switched to just the leach, but the bite stop. There may be something to... drawing them in with a woolly and then presenting the smaller leach for the catch. I hope to make it down again tomorrow for a full day. I'll try it out again. I did notice there seemed to be less visible fish in the branch. I wonder is C&R deaths and predation is thinning the stock or they are becoming more wild and better camouflaged? Tight Lines
  12. I took a long break from BSC, but have been back lately. Yesterday I fished from the HWY up to private land. I'm concerned, and would like to see the DNR resample that stream. It is a wild stream and a couple of big flood events can change things. However, I noticed from the HWY to the Red Gate exit off the creek there just are not the holes there used to be. Sure there has always been long stretches of creek that were wide, flat, and shallow, but they were separated by narrow stretches with deeper water and cover plus the occasional over hanging tree root holes. Now... that whole section (for the most part) is flat and shallow. The " red gate area" still has holes, but they are shallower and shorter then in the past. Anyway... I'm just a layman, but I love the creek and care about. Anyone else been there lately and see what I am seeing? Am I being over cautious?
  13. Nice... so one, if chooses, could live on wild game... meat wise of course, if you had access also. I've never deer hunted, only small game. I used to want to, but at this point in life... my hunting days are over.
  14. What are the doe limits in MO? I live in IL.
  15. I'm taking a buddy of mine to hopefully catch his first wild trout and then popping over to the park. I have not been in a few weeks. Anyone been lately?
  16. I just wanted to a take a moment to say Merry Christmas to you and yours... the Ozark Angler family. May the new year find you and family safe and healthy, may you have many tight lines, and may you have many beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Many prayers and amens to the members fighting health issues.
  17. What did he catch them on?
  18. It's an intriguing stream. Dry Fork is longer, and has a bigger watershed, than the Meramec does above where the two come together. If it wasn't a losing stream, it might be a premier float stream; it certainly has a lot of bends and probably, from what I can tell from topo maps, a lot of impressive bluffs. But you trade that float stream for Maramec Spring. As you said, nearly all the water that SHOULD be flowing through Dry Fork instead sinks underground to emerge at Maramec Spring. Got to have the loosing streams to have the cold ones... well you know what I mean.
  19. Frog legs cooked right are very good. Is it just me, or are there a lot less bull frogs now then 40 years ago?
  20. Love that guy. When I was stationed in Germany I bought his full Good Eats collection (LOL on VHS), and watched them over and over. Learned a lot about cooking from that guy.
  21. I found this spot on Realtor.com. Doesn't seem like the price is bad. I'm not associated with it, but hey... if you buy it, can I have have access rights if I close the gates. LOL Thurman Lake Rd, Cuba, MO 65453 | realtor.comĀ®
  22. Very nice rig. I always wanted something like that, but doesn't work for me now.

    Chicks?

Excuse my ignorance, but do you let them die of natural causes then. Would be tough for me to harvest a pet.

    Chicks?

There is joke there somewhere. But... thanks for feeding America.
