  1. A buddy who wanted to take his daughter told me scalper/brokers gobbled all the tickets almost instantly. Quadrupled the cost. Not sure if that's true but the parasites do it for almost all the concerts at the better venues in town.
  2. Two deep, deep vertical gouges on both sides. If you looked at the fish from the top it had a pinched hour glass shaped profile. Same type of scar that would suddenly show up on the trout in the meramec during the fall and winter. A person can never be absolutely certain but...
  3. It doesn't work, that why this whole debate is absurd.
  4. One of the 18 inchers I caught had gig scars.

You have that right. As a fellow dweller in the land of plastic houses I might add: No good restaurants, No good music, No good bars, In my particular burbhood we almost no public parks and what little open farm land that remains will inevitably be bulldozed for more plastic houses.
  6. Upper end?
  7. On bright day even agressive fish will often roll on a top water bug without taking it. Or they rush toward your fly, stop just before it and stare. During the last hour of daylight these same fish will take the bug without hesitation. I guess you could fish a fly deep during the day but what fun is that.
  8. Excellent report, just the way fishing should be.
  9. There is no reason to dump. Tie about 10-15 foot of nylon rope to the bow and stern of the canoe. When you see a sweeper ahead or the water rushing around a blind curve just step out and grab the rope, walk the canoe through. Fire wood should be no problem at all as long as you don't camp on one of the popular spots like Jam up. Your much better off finding a little less scenic camp site with plenty of down wood and no poo piles.
  10. Please not the Bourbeuse. how about some place that is already a hell hole, plenty to choose from.
  11. I learned to love the outdoors dispite my scouting experance.
  12. Good fish, Yesterday I made my first trip to a favorite creek after leaving it alone during last years drought. We found good numbers but for the life of me I couldnt put the hook into anything bigger than 13. Heck, I spent 8 hours fish watching and only see a couple of fish I would call quality. Did the poachers get them? Was it the drought or were the larger fish hunkered down in a post spawn funk?
  13. Thieves !
  14. Cool pictures. Yep, it's avoid the idiots season.
  15. Does a viable bass fishery exist at Busch? In half a lifetime of fishing at BWL I can count one one hand the bass I've caught that were larger than 15". Lake 33 might be worth an actual bass fishing effort but other than that decent bass are one in a hundred. Every evening I spend Bluegill fishing a count a dozen or so 10-12 inchers as bycatch but I can't call that bass fishing.
  16. I’m as clueless as anyone so I’ll chime in. Have you ever looked out the window of an airliner when approaching a city in the night? Look at all the empty parking lots and streets lit up. What’s up with that? Are we scared of the dark? Are we afraid of some boogie man? Do we have a need to conquer the natural world by turning night into day? I’m pretty sure it’s because energy is so cheap we can afford such a folly without giving it any thought. Energy conservation and alternate energy sources will never be viable when our cost is so low. Maybe the real question is does our energy cost reflect the actual cost to our environment and society?
  17. I guess I have been through a couple of simplification/complication cycles. Back when I read fishing magazines I was convinced more was better. I would rig up several rods with varying baits for different situations. These I would have splayed across my 17 canoes thwarts for lightning fast use. I replaced the old 17 footer with a solo canoe about the time jet boat traffic got so bad on the larger rivers I had to flee to the creeks. All those rods with the different baits just didnt make sense on a stream barely wider than the canoe was long. More times than not I would fish all day with just one or two baits so one spinning rod and one fly rod was all I rigged up and one small tackle bag carried everything. The solo canoe has long been worn out and now Im back to a tandem canoe and god forbid a jet boat of my own. Now that I have the room I have been going back to multiple rods, baits and more tackle boxes. Im not sure how this will play out but Im pretty sure my curiosity about new lures came from this forum and some of the good folks Ive met on it.
  18. That's why this is so entertaining, it's like conversations I use to listen to in the taverns of Granite City.

  20. I watched a toddler eat a whole tub of Fire In The Hole dough bait before his moma caught him. Poor child paid a high price for that lunch.
  21. A day never goes by when I am not thankful that that era is over.
  22. I believe I have one of the last boats Gay Rorie built. Was on a waiting list for about a year and a half, Gay retired not long after we picked it up.
