Jason, I don't bed fish on our lakes up here. Unless they act like those two that I found on Wednsday. Anytime I have attempted to bed fish they run off and don't come back. Im sure bed fishing takes its toll on fish but it doesn't appear to hurt the population as long as these tournaments have been fishing during the spawn over the years. These fish are more skittish than any other fish that I have fished for. I have been fortunate to fish some lakes in Texas and Florida and when them suckers down there go to spawning you can pull up to them and watch em for a while throw a bait over there and they will either eat on the first cast or stare at for a while until you find the magic little spot on the bed. I imagine its our clear waters and lake fluctuations here. The lakes down south for the most part fish shallow and the water doesn't fluctuate as much as it does up here.

Go to the very back of Big Cedar you should get some bites around there.
-
I believe with the moon phase coming right now there will be more bigger fish moving up since we indeed had a long cold winter so my cranking window will have to be put on hold but I will throw the heck out of topwaters and flip docks and work the brim beds.
-
Redfin, throw it over deep timber in pockets or by docks and wait for the wake to comith behind it and keep reeling through the bite and hang on because you can catch some giants doing it.

It doesn't make a difference between the new and the old ones. Deflection and stop/go retrieves is the key to wiggle wartin. Depending upon water temp: Colder water 45 degrees or less retrieve will be slower, above 45 steady to really banging the wart will get bites.

I am ready for them get done spawning and get their minds back on feeding. Getting the topwaters ready and mid-depth and deep diving cranks ready to go. If I have to I will have a big wobblehead or football jig tied on to slow down.

90 plus boats showed up to the ramp at Aunts Creek yesterday. We were boat 16 and decided to head to KC and fish some pockets and see what we could find. Last time I was on the lake was Sunday and the water temp was 62.5 when we pulled up to our first spot the temp gauge said 66.2. The warm nights and days early in the week jacked the water temp and the fish seemed to be doing everything. We found a shad spawn going on and caught the last 30 minutes of the action with poppers right on the bank. We caught our limit within 30 minutes plus several other fun fish and keepers that wouldn't help our 11 lb limit. After a great morning we found some wind in some other creek arms and threw a spinnerbait and crankbait and caught several more males that were roaming the banks that wouldn't help increase our weight. Decided to pull out and fish 15-20ft with C-rig and wobblehead and caught short fish doing that. At 12:30 decided to go looking for bed fish and didn't have to go very far and found a pair locked on the bed. One was possibly 3 lbs so I decided to try and catch them. The male bit instantly and it culled one by about 1/4 of a pound. The female roamed around a little bit and then settled back on the nest and I threw back in there and it took about 10 minutes before she started to get excited and she picked it up but I could tell the bait wasn't in her mouth good enough yet but I could feel her chomping on the bait to kill it so I pulled up on her slightly and she slowly started to walk off with and I set the hook and the pinchers were pulled of my plastic. It was fun for a little bit but never got another chance at her. The rest of the day I stayed in the wind on points off the main lake and never caught any up grades. Ended up with 14 keepers and no check. 16.05lbs won they weighed a few bags behind ours and they had a 3.89 for their big fish and everything else was a solid 3lbs in their bag. 2nd place was 15lbs and they had big fish for 7.12lbs. The word was it was caught off a bed. 2nd big bass was 5.11lbs. Last place check was 12.43 lbs. I don't know how many limits were brought in but Mr. Conlon who was weighing the fish said this was the most fish brought in since he has been working the weigh in for the Meeks tournament. Getting a big bit carries you a long ways this time of year. Good luck to all and good fishing its alot of fun out there right now.

1 big fish isn't going to kill the gene pool. Stuff happens sometimes. Buddy of mine a couple of years ago was fishing the Mill Creek Night Tournaments caught what would have been the big fish of the night and stringer. Put the fish in the livewell with rejuvinade formula checked the fish through out the night and on their way back in opened the livewell and she died on them lost big fish and stringer due to their rules. Things happen that are out of our control. Nice Fish.

They won't go anywhere. The bite might be slow until the sun gets up.

I had a buddy catch a 5lber one day out of dark spot (which turned out to be an old minnow bucket) in the water that was maybe 10inches of water on a mud flat up the kings. He threw a plastic craw up there and as soon as it hit the water the fish ate it and exploded out of there. Sometimes you have to fish extreamly shallow and its like you are fishing competely virgin water. How many people do you see now fishing in the mid-depth range or offshore on our lakes now. They are utilizing their graphs and those fish see alot of baits over the course of the warmer months. If there is any population of fish shallow during those time frames they will bit anything that comes around them.

Throw it weightless like a fluke during the spawn, put it on a shakeyhead after the spawn and fish it til wintertime. May not catch a lot of big fish using it but you will catch alot of fish if you play the numbers game.

Fished Baxter area Sunday had a lot of fun looking at beds with males on them and throwming a floating worm over the nests. Caught 30 fish doing that with only one keeper male. At 2:00 the dinner bell went off when the wind changed in an area I was in and started blowing across a set of points and I had a finesse war eagle spinnerbait tied on went to chunking that thing right on the bank and caught 20 plus more fish and 3 more solid keeper blacks had the 5th bite several times but pulled off. Fished the wobblehead with no keepers when the bite was slowed up on the bank throughout the day caught a handful on them they were all kentuckys. Fished in Little Indian, and north of baxter around several pockets up there. Lots of boats out there beating the banks with spinning rods. Ran into another fisherman who was fishing a club tourney and he said he had located a female on a bed yesterday that was pushing 7-8 lbs and came into this pocket to see if she was there and she was gone. Made for an interesting conversation. Our lake is full of bass and when the pressure gets put on them SLOW down!

Buck Creek Area - This Weekend - Question
Sprint21fter replied to Beth H's topic in Lower Bull Shoals
Fished Buck Creek area last Friday, WT 57 in the morning and 61 at 3:45. Fished an asortment of baits from topwaters, cranks,to bottom baits with plastics. Caught fish on the mainlake around gravel and inside the creeks. Caught two nice walleye off a gravel point in 22ft before that caught 3 nice largemouth dragging plastics around on the same mainlake point. -
Beaver has been getting better and better as far as the bass fishing goes since the first huge flood several years ago. What has impressed me the most since I have learned to take a different approach to fishing the lake is the smallmouth. From mid-lake to the dam area it is the some of the clearest water there is. Smallmouth are eating machines in clear water. Look at the great lakes and northern fisheries. Those lakes are very clear now. Smallmouth on Beaver are going to become big players for these multi-day tournaments for years in the future. I have fished it when it seemed like "the dead sea" but in recent years during certain times you can catch 20lbs. Beaver can be tough when she wants to be just like our other highland lakes. You have to fish it according to the conditions and go from there. Now only IF there was a way that we could grow grass in these lakes then fishing these area lakes would truely make the fishermen around here the most versitle fishermen in the country.

I would have turned him into a wobblehead!

You don't need as much light line as one would think on our clearwater lakes. The A-rig has blown that of the water. Although at times sensitivity goes a long ways. It is whatever one feels comfortable throwing.

Couple Of Pic's Of Mike From Yesterday
Sprint21fter replied to Bill Babler's topic in Table Rock Lake
Seems to me Mike likes to fish KC-Campbell Point area. Lots of long pockets and mainlake deep points with timber everywhere. My opinion is it has everything you need to do well in a multi-day tournament. If you need a little color change in water you can go into Little or Big Indian Creek and find some. Most of that area is open and you can find some kind of ripple on the water normally within 5 miles. Most of that area lays the same also with certain bank characteristics that you can run for miles. Also, lots of docks with brushpiles around them. That area stays fairly consistant to me but I don't fish the dam area very much. If they are pulling water through the dam that is the only time that I do very good around the dam. Just my 2 cents worth. -

Looks like Mark Davis is casting a biffle hard head with a strike king plastic of some kind. Also, has some cranks tied on for decoys. Im sure he is throwing a crank to. GoPro from yesterday showed a wobblehead of some kind. He is definitely fishing a little deeper instead of in having the boat in 10-12ft he is off in maybe in 15-20 throwing up to 10ft. -

Brushy Creek is getting alot of action. Just a few big fish have been posted but they are all in the stained water. I would say several are up long creek somewhere. Chris Lane has got a few of the big ones as well as his brother bobby. Tommorrow will be interesting in the stained water but alot of the mid lake feeder creeks can get on fire as well. Alot of crankbaits being thrown but the big females that have been shown look like they are being caught on the jig up shallow. I would imagine that some of the good jerkbait throwers may have some good ones to but havn't been posted yet. Will see when weigh-in approaches. -
Just pulling up, those are some white looking fish.
-
Fish where you have caught them before. They don't just leave the area work the area throughly and you will get bit. Tell your son thanks for serving our country so I can go fish in a meaningless tournment compared to what he has done for us. Catch the heck out em.
