  1. your living in the perfect spot for rivers, opportuninty every direction. like mentioned above that area in the spring can be rough. lots of side lakes to fish is you use google earth to map out before you go. dont forget crappie and cats in that area. especially robertsville to catawissa.
  2. wow i havnt seen mike in almost 20 years
  3. I would of asked him to plz walk behind me for the obvious reason so they learn for the future. when his friends came down and if he didnt correct them to do the same then thats where you throw nothing less then 12lb with a super spook tied on and cast as close as you can to them and laugh ripping it across the surface. either way they would get the point and you have fun. preferbly the first option is the way to go that way they learn
  4. you have been stuck inside for months, cant hurt to get out and try, shake the dust off. depends on the length of warm weather. the ice has to melt first even then thats cold water. yes the creeks warm up first normally but thats after warm rain brings in warmer water. the mud banks on the north side if i remember right. depending light penatration. then rock especially if its windy and the sun warms the rocks alot and the water that wets them. dirty water warms the fastest but might not be as fun or productive at first to fish depending your preference. cold and dirty water = blah
  5. are these the normal floaters or the the slow?
  6. how much are you comfortable lifting?
  7. what boot size?
  8. i was looking at them years ago and heres what i found. depends what size and where your fishing, g3 compared to xpress. g3 has alot nicer interior, console, deck arrangement, storage options but the biggest model only holds a 135 or 150. xpress has a better shape that keeps you dry and holds alot bigger size motor, but the seats and console are cheap. i know the boats 19ft and bigger hold anywhere from 200-250 and im trying to remember where i saw a 300 on one. xpress is probally one of the fastest aluminum boats and be the better option of the 2 if you decided get a jet.
  9. not to mention the rod tips
  10. every place has its awesome times but it seems like james river has the most consistant good days with alot of species. just where i would pick if i had one place to fish
  11. Al, that was awesome, especially the part about all those pickerel, I love seeing them come out out of the weeds in the back pools and creeks but I have never seen as many that you mentioned in one trip. I was remembering all the times fishing nymphs from the campround to the trophy area when you were talking about fishing the tan vat access, they always produce numbers in that stretch. love the details and the pics. thanks.
  12. I have owned 4 stradic reels since they came out around 90, they were tops until the 10 bearing reels came out. was not going to pay 300 for the all the new models. found something really good where i can get 3 for the of one. since then i went with okuma epixor. got them new off ebay in the 40 dollar area. amazing and smooth. only bad thing was i left them in my storage area of my boat all winter and they got wet and the paint started to bubble. took all the paint off and was flat plastic with the shiny parts had 2 people ask me what kind those were.
  13. I was going to say we were doing this 20 years ago when i was a teenager, to catch fish up in trees with out getting snagged when walking around the lake. we used plastic grubs that way. i used to tie on 2 almost 15in apart helps cast further on top of catching doubles. later on used it from the boat to catch crappie that were bitting slow.
  14. a friend of mine is interested in the trolling motor and asked to hold on to it until next week. i will put it back up if it doesnt happen. thanks to everyone who asked.
  15. 22 inch largemouth in streams are really 6-7lbs? i thought they were more lean and narrow looking, from living in streams. i say this because around 1990 i was 16 and was fishing this creek that connected to the current river that had warm tea colored water in it that turned gin clear as it got closer to the river. i notice these huge largemouths cruising up and down while i was fishing for bluegills with poppers. getting to the point, one of the bass grabbed one of the smaller bluegills. about 6" relize im fishing with 2lb on a ultra lite. i got him up after 20 mins of hoping i dont break off. but with no hook to go into the bass the bluegill came out of his stomach and mouth. i came back the next morning with one of my bass rods and caught 2 right away. the first one broke off 8lb as i got him on the sand.walked upstream a little after my heart relaxed and casted at a different one. took less then 10 secs.the second one i did everything right. he was a hair short of 24" and i he was 5lb. the sad thing is the ones i saw the day and hooked before were way bigger. this creek was 4ft in the deepest spot and they were right in front of me, i could swear 2 of them were close to 28" and alot thicker. ended up leaving that first day 30 huge bluegill and a redear 12.5" on 2lb and a popper. went back the next spring and the floods changed it. tried everything the same and only caught a few small bass under 12" on a torpedo and alot of green sunfish =(
  16. im not sure about right now but you put sauger and colder water together but over the summer and fall when it was hot out they were excellent at carlyle out by the water pumps in the middle of the lake with a surface temp of 82 degrees on 1/8 grubs in 4-6ft, insane. last time i looked at the fishing report is was outdated a few months. below the dam is pretty good sometimes.
  17. I have caught monsters over the years at LOZ especially crappie fishing with 3" grubs, if we were catching drum then we knew that we were to deep and slow on the bottom in the spring. the crappie were between 1-2 off the bottom. the biggest drum was 29lbs and was hilarious in the boat trying to get it to chill long enough to un hook. my rod almost broke getting it in.
  18. I have a late 90's 50lb motor guide 12/24 volt foot controlled that came off my 18ft tracker that i replaced with a wireless for my situation. some the black plastic on the mount is sun faded in some spots. not asking alot, make offer. will try to get a pic up shortly. thanks
