  1. Thanks for all the advice. I was really leaning toward the chirp version. A few of your accounts convinced me that I would probably be alright with the non-chirp version which saved me a few hundred bucks when I made the drive to Bass Pro this evening to purchase the one they have on sale. I'm pretty excited about it.
  2. I just got one of those too. Just got home from buying it. I ended up with the older non-chirp model that bass pro had on sale. I am still pretty excited about it though.
  3. I guess for my needs it looks like non-chirp will work. Especially since this unit will be my console unit. If it was going up front, I think I'd want chirp for sure for the better separation and detail. (The free installation is attractive too.) Thanks for for all the input.

  6. I'd still like to know, how many people do you think don't pay those fees at all? And do you think anything ever happens to them? I'm guessing there a fair amount of people that just drop in their boat and ignore the fee all together. Season pass makes the most sense to me.
  7. Good points. Some folks are certainly more clever than I. I never thought about it that way, Wrench, but it does make sense. Also, since when does the MDC do anything that makes sense? Especially financial sense?
  8. Howdy Ed. I've been by your dock fishing many times. Caught a pretty nice one just a couple docks down the last time I was over there. Sometime, when I'm out there, I'll have to give you a shoutout.
  9. That is the non-chirp model. The same one that bass pro is selling in their sale for $499.
  10. It is this time of year that I really enjoy having the lifetime permit. I only wish I had purchased it back when I was a teenager and it was really cheap.
  11. Got ya.
  12. Admit: this is a repost from the general discussions forum. I'm just looking for lots of opinions and I know some of you hang out only on the individual lake forums. I am really thinking of pulling the trigger on a new Garmin echomap 73sv. I can buy the old model for significantly less than the chirp model. My question to all you electronics gurus: How important is chirp? How much of a difference does it make? I'm really looking forward to using my unit to locate fish and structure. I just got my first boat (used) and am very excited to join a bass club and do some minor local tournament fishing. i know some of you are really knowledgeable about this and I would love to hear from you. I don't take large purchases lightly and could really use some guidance. Thanks. Quote this

  15. I'll admit I've been leaning pretty hard toward the chirp, but it seems like most that have answered so far don't seem to think it is that big of a deal. Is that kind of the consensus? I currently have an old 73dv on my console that was on my boat when I bought it. My plan is to move the 73dv to the front and put the sidevu on the console. I'm really wanting something that I can use to more efficiently and effectively search for structure under docks and out deep. This is is the unit I'm going to have for probably a very long time.

  17. I called bass pro. The said that the chirp model is not eligible for the rebate or the free installation. Bummer. Now I really could use some help deciding if the chirp is worth it. How much difference does it make? Sorry to hijack the tread. It is on the same line of thought.
  18. If I remember correctly, can't youlook up the year using the serial number?
  19. I've pretty much decided to get a Garmin 73sv. Can't decide if it is worth the extra money for the new chirp model though. $499 vs. $749 is a pretty big difference. I have heard that chirp is the way to go, but I'd love to have others weigh in on that.
  20. Curious. What is the DB3 long cast? Is it just heavier?
  21. I wondered what the FTC would say about this deal back when I first heard about it.
  22. Randy, way to go. Pretty cool to see that.
  23. I would really have enjoyed watching them have to catch 15 inchers like the rest of us. I'm guessing it would really have changed the tactics for a lot of guys. Instead we got: dink, dink, dink, dink, a "really good one" (1.5lb), dink, dink, 4 pounder, 3 pounder, dink, dink......
