  1. AH...by green bridge, you meant Greenbridge Rd. Here I was thinking about an actual bridge that was Green. And I've been on that road before. This heat must really be getting to me. Thanks for the map.
  2. Sounds like a great time, even if it is hot out there. By Green Bridge, you mean at the Ozark Park? Or are you referencing another bridge?
  3. Nobody is saying it is "okay". But how you react to it is what I'm pointing out. Typically the more you feed into their behavior, the more you'll do it. Like small kids, they are just doing it to get a rise out of you and if you acknowledge it, they usually keep it up and it escalates. Sometimes ignoring the nonsense is the best way to deescalate it.
  4. Scott, relax. The folks on this board will help, but we all enjoy a little levity. I can see you only have a few posts on you. Please reserve judgment until you get to know some of the folks here. No need to name call.
  5. Beat me to it Muddy!!
  6. Man, Justin, that's just vicious against the Royals....and after they won that series against the Rays too....... And I have to disagree Mitch... a 14 yr old should be able to handle the sight of a grown person naked without being scarred for life. Now if they were making crude comments, and lewd gestures while they were exposing themselves, then that's another story. That would be rude and crass, but hardly something I'd be freaking out about and I have a 12 yr old daughter. She's mature enough to know that kind of behavior is just dumb stupidity that is to be ignored unless it becomes threatening. Even the Puritans weren't as uptight as some of the folks I've met in this State. There used to be a time when people bathed in the river, ya know? And I'm sure they didn't do so fully clothed.
  7. Now why ya got to go and interrupt the couples? Man, it's hard finding places to get to know someone, and in this economy, who has the money for a motel, LOL??
  8. Where did you say you parked out that way again? Or do you ride your bike? I thought you rode your bike. Sounds like you're enjoying it quite a bit. Ever try to paddle up from the Crighton Access?
  9. What kind of fly does one use to target Gar?
  10. I second the parachute adams. Also, stop in at Tim's and pick up some fish food flies. They just freakin' work, man!!!
  11. Saw this article today: http://www.news-leader.com/article/20120626/LIFE06/306260033/City-Utilities-could-lower-registration-fees-boats Hope it's true. That would be great. Then I'd likely sign up. Also, day use for out of towner's would be good. I know one old boy from a previous post that won't be happy though.......
  12. I've usually gone with Bass Pro.....sorry.
  13. First light is way too early for this dog, after working all week. I've usually fished the river system from the boat house on up and had little luck. Is it better in the main lake?
  14. I absolutely love this post. I'm still trying to learn this technique. I think Nick is from Oklahoma and it's a trip to get around here, but would anyone of the more experienced nymph anglers on this board be willing to maybe mentor and set up a sort of nymph teaching day down at Taneycomo? Maybe devote a few hours to impart your ancient wisdom onto us poor nubes?
  15. Nick, I wish you the best of luck. I've tried with indicators such as palsas, thingamabobbers, and the lightening football shaped twist-ons. I've also used the teardrop shaped/toothpick indicators. No matter what, I've always found nymphing to be a difficult activity for me to master. Maybe I don't notice the changes, or notice in time. Maybe I don't use enough weight to get down quick enough. Either way, I usually stick to streamers and topwater these days. None of this is meant to dissuade you, it's just my experience. I would recommend finding someone to go nymphing with and observe/learn from them in person. Might be easier. I've done plenty of observing, but still looking for the time and person to go with who can enrich my experience personally.
  16. Sounds interesting. I calendared it. Hope I can actually make it.
  17. "Again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away." Was that Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark.....or Uncle Sam.....I get confused.
  18. This is a well covered topic. I suspect most will tell you to avoid kits. I know I did. I purchased a decent vise that cost about $25 for a starter, not one of these $100+ jobbers. Materials you should buy as needed per fly. Otherwise, I would say check out J. Stockard for a tool kit. They also have a tool/vise kit but that vise seemed a little cheap. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/
  19. Politics is like any other career. To be good at it takes time and effort. Diplomacy is neither inate, nor learned over night. The best example of all of this is the latest Congress filled with freshman members who are taking the :"my way or the highway" approach. It's been oh so effective in accomplishing something. I agree that every agency has its desk riders and waste, but in the end, there's usually a lot less waste than most people think. I've worked for government for 10 years now and most of the waste I've seen is as a result of having to pander to an ignorant population that can't accept certain truths and realities. Therefore, time and money is spent to make it more palatable, or attempt to resolve them. As for the fishing, we all agree we would pay more, so I'll reiterate my call for someone to maybe get together with me to research or discuss these issues with some of our representatives. I loved the idea of a bass keeping permit. I've always felt there should be split fees for keeping and C/R anyway.
  20. JD, just because someone pleads to it, doesn't mean it actually happened. You'd plead guilty to killing your own mother if the Feds had your stones in a vice. Here's another perspective: http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/113585.html Sorry, but this kind of thing really gets under my skin. So much for the land of the free................
  21. I just couldn't resist. On the nature side of it, I think it is pretty cool to see the rebound.
  22. I'm with you Jayvee. Never caught much there. Don't know the secret.
  23. Agreed. My cell service doesn't kick in until about the liquor store/gas station area. Even then it's spotty until town. On 248 and 37 it's non-existent until I get to Braums. But at least I can email at the campground and if I update to the IPhone 4S I can FaceTime. And I get to read the forum!
  24. I think the consensus in this entire posts is that there is money to be had and we all don't mind paying a bit more so long as it is directed to the right place. Now.....anyone interested in taking the next step and contacting a legislator to propose one or more of these changes? I suspect that license fees are administratively under the purview of the MDC. Taxes may be another story.
  25. Not a bad deal! How long were you out on the water near Rivercut, and were those the only ones caught?
