Is There A Parking Pass For Ms?
Jack Jones replied to jshipman23's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Well worth it though. Last time was there I really liked that park and the museum, even if I didn't catch a fish. -
Griz, I'd like a little more info on that. Wanna post it? Or just pm me?

Actually Feathers, the private sector theory you state only applies to the lower echelon. If you're in upper management (execs and CEOS) and cannot perform they usually give you a substantial buyout with stock options, pension, and golden parachutes, LOL. Even if you bankrupt the company or drive it into the ground. As always....it's good to be king!

http://www.ky3.com/news/ky3-fisherman-drowns-in-lake-taneycomo-20130403,0,2311097.story Don't know if this was in upper or lower end actually. The story gives very little details. Something to watch though. Say a prayer for the family tonight.

I saw Martina with Alan Jackson about 6 or 7 years ago in STL. Not a big fan of hers, but she is very talented. I got to see Pat at a place called Tink's in Scranton, PA about 15 years ago. She's great too. Two amazing artists. I've always liked the Crossroads series. I just wish they'd sell more of the shows on CD. Thanks F&F

I'll occasionally fish a lizard on a t-rig 1/4 bullet but I'm more likely to fish either a 4in finesse or baby craw of a shaky head. Usually use pumpkin or green pumpkin. Those have worked best for me.

Seen many references made to catching male/female white bass. I know I'm opening a can of worms for the jokers on this forum, lol, but in all seriousness, how do you tell the difference between the two?

Ever since switching to a French Press about 6 months ago, I've been using a Mr. Coffee blade grinder. It did the job but today I splurged on a Hario Mini Mill burr grinder. Wow! What a difference in the grind and the smoothness of the cup. It's a manual hand grinder, but that's fine since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. Only takes a minute or so for me to crank out what I need. It's small too, so I can take it camping with me later this year. Nothing better than fresh ground coffee and this was definitely worth the upgrade! I recommend it.

I would say yes, the little guys in the womb, by making sure their parents have financial security and the ability to provide them with care before they exit and the necessities after they exit. Might prevent people from having to decide against what you dislike Mitch.

Amen Chief! In many ways, it's a very fitting way to honor the resurrection of my Lord by highlighting someone who also fought for social justice.

Agreed! Haven't gone to mass yet (even though it's technically a day of observation). May go this evening, but may even just skip it. I hate the crowds. Don't see in the Book where He exalted one "holiday" over the next. But I'll read the readings, and may take time to watch mass on video. Happy Easter everyone!!!

Just what we need, clans of itinerant paddlers wandering the state......thanks woodman.

Never good to hear this kind of thing. My sympathies are with you. When I pray this evening, I'll ask for him to be comforted.

There are many charities here in the Ozarks that aren't specifically geared towards the homeless that I'm sure would love to accept donations to raffle off. The Developmental Center of the Ozarks is one. Also the Sertoma Foundation. I would also check out a charity called HOPE. They provide financial assistance to needy parents of children born with severe defects. Given the pro-outdoors setting of the Ozarks, it shouldn't be hard to find one. Keep an eye out in the paper for benefits, take note, and then contact the charity later with your plans. That's my 2 cents.

cool fishing and great video. Not so awesome when I had to drive back to Springfield from Forsyth tonight in it, LOL. Would have rather been fishing.

This time I agree. I understand that they have to investigate every allegation. I'm okay with that. Without knowing more about what was alleged it's tough to say what the agency was going off of. If it was just the picture, that's not enough in my mind. Unfortunately, we'll never know. As for the police, that kind of behavior from them is typical of the jack-boot thuggery that they usually employ. Remember....in the eyes of a law enforcement and those who prosecute it is always considered suspicious when a citizen seeks to exercise their Constitutional rights. Unfortuately, no crimes were committed and there wasn't necessarily any abuse of discretion because the cops can ask you anything and request anything. It's up to you to assert your rights in the face of their intimidation. A lawsuit would be a waste of time and simply perpetuates the cycle. While what happened was wrong, I think the homeowner is being a little overzealous.

Oh no. Prepare to be deluged, LOL. Search the forum and there is more than one post about those "kits". Most advice will tell you to buy your vice and tools separately, with a short list of essential tools. You can always add more later. I'll second that. I'll let the other guys chime in on materials and tools since I don't tie that often. However, I'm going to plug Plateau Fly Shop on Campbell here in Springfield. Check them out. They may be able to point you in the right direction. As a rule, I avoid BPS when looking for materials. Online shops like J. Stockard is good.

I'm just going to throw it all out there. I'm huge novice who just got back into fishing about two years or so ago. I usually enjoy fly rodding at the parks and Taneycomo. Trout fishing has been a lot of fun, but I also own my solo canoe and want to increase my proficiency in lakes and rivers. Below is a description of me and my gear. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I own a few cheap BPS Stampede spinning combos, and one ultralight combo (BPS). I'd like to upgrade if it's necesary and if I honestly would benefit from better equipment. I can probably reasonably drop $100 to $125 on a new rod/reel/line. I fish either Lake Springfield, the Finley River from the Ozark park, the James River putting in at Hootentown and paddling up, and occasionally Shadow Rock park from the banks. I intend to get a sticker for Fellows Lake this spring. I typically am throwing 4 inch finesse worms or a jig with a smaller plastic craw. I fish them in pumkpinseed colors. I own a few 1/8th ounce spinnerbaits. I own one Wiggle Wart, and a few Rebel Wee-craws/hopper cranks. As I've mentioned in other posts, my prior fishing experience was reservoirs and lakes in Connecticut as a young guy from the bank with live bait mostly. So....I'm taking suggestions on how to be a more productive fisherman. I'll take gear suggestions, lure suggestions, and even technique suggestions. My only request is that no one suggest throwing in for $500 or so in gear. I'm not a pro. I'm just someone who goes out every weekend or every other weekend in the nicer weather and who wants to get more enjoyment out of fishing beyond just the floating and being in nature. This year I do intend to explore other rivers as time permits, so maybe suggest one or two. All of that is me in a nutshell. Now it's open to you guys.

After reading all this, I think much of what JoeD says makes sense. As someone who just got back into fishing a season or so ago, I think I definitely need to work on proficiency with and familiarity with different types of lures. I acknowledge I'm an incredible novice here. I'm using a BPS Stampede cheapy setup with Vicious line on it. I know I need to upgrade and probably will this season. I'm going to start new post seeking advice and I'll let you guys take it from there. Quillback, I wish I could go, but it may be unlikely. I may have a four year old to watch and not sure how he'd do. I'm not dead set against it. I'll consider it. I'd like to go.

Ozark Anglers' Spring Gathering March 23, 2013
Jack Jones replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Table Rock Lake
As of today, I've probably got to bow out. Found out she's working 12-8. I've got the children with me. The teenager wouldn't want to go. She prefers to hole up in her room, LOL. And I'm not sure how the 4 yr old little guy would react. -
So if you could only use one spinnerbait (and not a custom), which brand/color/size would it be? I've done okay on Strike King 1/8th black ones myself, but I don't know if I'd make it the go-to.

Sparked by Wayne's response to another of my posts, what's the advice on casting short distances. Assuming that I'm using either a 7.5 or 9 ft tapered leader, what happens when I only really need to let out a foot or two of line to reach my target area. If you're only trying to get the fly about 10-15 feet away from you, what's the best way to cast this? Roll cast?
