  1. Hello, all. I am the program leader for Project Healing Waters in Springfield, Mo. PHW works with disabled veterans and active duty personnel to help them return to a more normal life. We hold fly tying and rod building classes for our vets and take them on fishing trips, including a great weekend at Lilley's Landing in August each year. My problem is this; I don't have any ponds that I can take my vets to. If anyone out there can put me on to some good farm ponds that my vets could fly fish that would be great. All fishing is catch & release and we wouldn't beat a pond to death. Email me atrwdoughty@msn.com, or PM me on here. Thanks, Nighthawk.

  3. Good to have you on board.
  4. Duckster, where do you get white mink fur, and don't say from a white mink
  5. fly fishing or spinning? welcome.
  6. Fishing buddy and I fished the river Sat. and got 7 fish apiece. One of mine was a pretty brown about 15". But the highlight of the trip was catching a rainbow which had an 8" lamprey eel on top of his head. The eel let go when I got the trout up to the top of the water, but the teeth marks were visible on the fish when I got it to hand.
  7. thanks, Phil. My wife and I are blessed to have great relationships with both of our kids, aged 39 and 34, and with all our grandkids. It wasn't always that way, but we just loved them through it all and let God be our guide. Russ
  8. the ugly ducklings, all grown up.
  9. I will never forgive the state for tearing down the old Springview store. Inexcusable!
  10. way to bring home the bacon!
  11. Welcome, Pat!! Glad to have you.
  12. Glad to have you, Bud.
  13. he's always friendly and willing to share his patterns and techniques. He guided a couple friends of mine at a Project Healing Waters event and they caught the biggest trout of their lives.
  14. Tim, you casting upstream or down?
  15. My son (the troutdoorsman) and I hunted a quail management area Sunday the 24th. About 30 minutes out of the truck his cocker flushed a covey of about 15 birds. They came up in bunches and we dropped 3 birds out of it. I ended up 2 birds for 3 shots. We pretty much let the singles go for seed. Hope others this year will do the same. Also jumped 2 deer. Always great to spend time with my son. Two Sundays ago his cocker got at least 15 woodcock flushes. We brought home 4. First time I have pulled the trigger on upland birds in almost 30 years. He'll take delivery of a new German Shorthair in about a month. I really have the fever now.
  16. heard of it for years. never fished or tied it.
  17. took two trips to Taney yesterday. 1st was in the morning when a buddy and I threw sculpin flies. I only caught 2 but was having lots of strikes when my buddy wanted to go home. I was not ready but I acquiesced. we always stop for coffee at Habby's in Branson West. best coffee around and very friendly gals. 2nd trip was last night when another pal and I got on the water about 10:30. I ended up with 14 all rainbows, but hooked the biggest fish of my life and I've caught a 15 lb carp and 10 lb salmon in Alaska. this fish took my fly and I thought I was hung up and actually started to wade out to free my fly. then the beast took off for the dam and I never turned him. the line screamed off the reel and I was afraid of getting spooled so I clamped down on the line and broke the tippet. I have no idea how big it was or what it was; big brown, gar, snagged paddle fish. shook me up for the rest of the night:)
  18. Gary, it was my pleasure. That's what we do at Project Healing Waters. Russ
  19. Missouri Trout Fishermans Assoc. meets the 1st Thursday of the month at the nature center in Springfield, starting at 6pm. We'd love to have you visit. won't have a meeting there in Sept. though.
  20. My dad was not big on fishing, but took me as soon as I was old enough to walk. It was love at first sight, and I wanted to go all the time. I soon passed him in expertise and started going with neighborhood guys, including Charlie McNeil, who taught me to tight line for crappie on the Diversion Channel near Cape Girardeau, Mo. I taught myself to fly fish and never looked back.
  21. felt.
  22. Can't specifically say it was because of minimum flow, but fishing yesterday really sucked. The river seemed dead, no breeze, bright sunshine, no herons working, no gulls. My favorite spots seemed too deep and fast to get good drifts. They wouldn't even hit an olive wooly bugger! We tried the state park, Wildcat, and Cotter. Only 2 fish brought to hand. Looks like I'm going to have to learn this river all over again.
  23. roadrunners can run 20 miles and hour; coyotes can run 43 miles an hour. my whole life has been a lie!
  24. where can I find the cfs and elevation of the river?
  25. I see that the projected release for tomorrow is 20mw. Does this mean that minimum flow is in effect? Is this a wadeable level?
