  1. Lets see how long it lasts. The next flood will probably flush most of those rocks out of there.
  2. I agree...Grandpa Pigeons was great...I have many fond memories of the place..Think the one on Watson is an Aldi now. What a shame.
  3. Were using the same numbers Chief just different divisors...12 stockings in your case, 20 week season in mine...Regardless, it does tell a tale... a) they run a put & take fishery. it takes about 2 weeks to fish most of them out. I'm not too worried about a bunch of them making it down to the North Fork.
  4. The spawn will be over by that time frame, but there should be plenty of eggs in the water...I've said it a few times before, but your best bet for a big brown is to know where they are, get there before daybreak or stay after dark, sneak up, use something big enough to interest a big brown trout, and make your first cast count. If you dont get a take in a couple casts...Move on. Look & hike more than you fish and you will do well. Make a mental note if you find a good one, and come back and try them again if you blank the first time. Good Luck.
  5. T. Hargrove Fly Fishing...9024 Manchester Rd...is a one of a kind fly shop...Denny Dennis in Fenton isnt bad...Jerry's Bait & Tackle in Highland, IL has some unique stuff...Paul's Bait & Tackle in S. City used to be good....but there isnt anything on the pegs anymore. Wonder how long they are gonna last.
  6. BPS and Cabela's have both lost there luster for me...I've bought allot of spin & casting tackle from them over the years, but the selection is limited to proven sellers and they are slow to adopt new products. If I want the latest & greatest, I'll find it someplace else long before a BPS or Cabela's will have it on the shelf.
  7. Who cares if they are listed....mark it on the calendar and head back next year!
  8. I've always wondered about fish coming out of Cloud 9...Their website says they stocked 9,750lbs of fish over the course of 20 weekends this year. If you figure a pound a piece...that averages out to 487 fish per weekend..Thats not much considering that they have 600 RV sites. I'd bet that most dont last very long.
  9. Hit a small yellow stone hatch on Mill years ago...not sure if they were yellow sallies or not, but they were about a size 12-14... There's a wealth of information here if you want to brush up on your native benthic invertabrates. Missouri Watersheds
  10. http://mostateparks.com/page/54247/fishing Here's your regs...Gulp (Scented bait) & powerbait in Zone 3 only. Good Luck.
  11. The Ross Flyrise isnt a bad design.....but its got a smaller diameter spool than the Konic in similar sizes...Look at them side by side and youll probably go with the Konic.
  12. Cricket of course....Coldwater caught all the bigguns. That was a great time...will have to do it again next year.
  13. Most of mine are mixtures of several colors...Browns, Olives, and Blacks primarily...with some contrasting colors...yellows, blues, orange, reds, and varying degrees of flash. Black & Olive versions look & work great with a peacock herl body..Hackle...I tie it in at the front & wrap it back, then counterwrap with wire most of the time. Cheers.
  14. Interesting read. This Pro-Am format seems like a fertile ground for conflict...Gas Money seems fair regardless, but there is no way that I'd spend a day in a boat with a person I cant stand. What kind of recourse do you have if you get stuck with a jerk? I'd be out of that boat ASAP, heck with the entry fee & gas money.
  15. Nice, I Hope you have an awesome father son hunt!
  16. Its been bought, but the new owners have kept Tom & Lisa on board and its still open to the public. Give them a call they would be glad to have you.
  17. Beats work! Thanks for the report.
  18. That's a sweet boat Zach...if I lived closer to the 11pt, NFoW, or the tailwaters I'd add it to the boat collection. You'll probably get a better price in the February-May timeframe...People will be thinking about fishing, and have their tax refund money in hand. Best of Luck.
  19. 8x is a bit light..Heck, I rarely see a need to drop below 4-5x most of the time and a 6wt is no handicap with that stuff...For 6x & 7x and tiny flies...I'll usually go with a 3 or 4wt with a soft tip. Good luck.
  20. Lamson Konic. Its the gold standard for trout reels in its price range....
  21. It closes for the year on October 31st... http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/eastern/mtwcmp.htm
  22. Another thing to consider is that anglers arent very effective at catching fish...if you were to witness MDC running a shock boat through any of your favorite spots...you would be truly humbled and amazed at the numbers of fish they will find....even a middling onesy, twosey spot can produce upwards of 50 fish in the sample basket....and they arent even gonna get half of them.
  23. They dont get them all...say they sample 100 on day one...and capture 100 on day two, with a 30% recapture rate...using the math in Tom's link...it comes out to an estimated population of 329 fish per mile...of which 100 fish were marked.... {(#Sampled Day 1 + 1)x(#Sampled Day 2 + 1)}/(# of fish Recaptured on Day 2 + 1)=Total population estimate. When we did the Current, or recapture rate was around 40%, but its skinnier water and easier to sample. Cheers.
  24. Just call ahead and ask if someones willing to rent a boat or drop a vehicle...or chat someone up when you get there....have some trade goods handy....Extra beer, cigars, smokes, and a bit of cash.
  25. No need for laws. I'm thinking that we should keep better tabs on our crazy folks (Y'all know some) and let the rest be.
