As Justin said on on one of the NFoW threads recently....Good drifts catch fish. NFoW & 11pt trout rarely feed selectively, but occassionally notice that they have a preference for size, or color. Depends....sounds like your cast needs some work...without seeing you cast I cant offer good advice..Online casting advice is wasted typing for the most part.

If spinning deer hair gives you fits...Learn the Lacey Gee method....its illustrated in the Wapsi Fly Tying Manual and in Lacey Gee's book "Practical Flies and Their Construction". I've seen Tom Ziegler and Jerry Jarosik do some amazing things using that method.

I've got no idea about where Al's dream stream is....and I really dont care to know. I'd rather find a new place on my own or with friends...Expore some new water....if it works for you....do it again sometime. If not, move along. Plenty of river around here to explore.

The decision has been made...but they havent released the proposed language and the implementaion date yet. We know the Who, What, Why, & How...no use arguing about the Where & When until an official statement is released. You might as well spend that time earning money &shopping for new boots;>)!

Your better bass water is up above the spring, but there are smallies to be had in the trout water too. Havent been down this year...but it usually gets kind of mossy in allot of spots...Bring some buzzbaits to run over the moss beds......The best trout water is the 3 miles below the Spring...Try some inline spinners, Kastmasters, hair or marabou jigs, minnow plugs & crankbaits....Rogues are good, but some of their colors are a bit odd IMO...I prefer the white bellied models. Great write up...Sammy's just flat out work, even if you cant walk one as well as Al. $15 might seem expensive...but its a very cheap if you look at it from a cost per fish basis. My favorite Sammy 100 is 6-7 years old and its caught hundreds of fish. Bet you would spend at least $50 to catch the same number of fish on plastics.

You really need to adjust your weight for every run..add subtract, loose a rig or two...hardly rocket science but its something you need to pay attention too. The folks who know that river well adjust their weights & bobber depth far more often than they change flies.

I wasnt sure about this....I havent fished in didy contaminated water in a long time so I wasnt really worried about spreading it around. Folks who fish Arkansas, yeah, they needed to do something but not me. This new developement finally made me do some research. Use more lead next time. 0.3 grams isnt very much... I carry 3 sizes BB 0.4g, AA 0.8g, and SSG 1.6g...I rarely drop below a AA on the NFoW...and sometimes I'll have several SSG's on...keep adding lead till your catching fish....remove some if your gettng hung constantly.

Great report Al! I really enjoyed it.... As for the LC colors...Ghost minnow (238) is a great color, and the other looks like bleeding ghost minnow. Its far from my favorite river....but it wouldnt surprise me if there are some 10lb class fish down there. Lots of deep water habitat for refuge...Low numbers are probably related to harvest...Its legal to take 4 browns over 15" down there and there are no bait restrictions. Probably the stream that would benefit the most from a one brown trout per day statewide limit.

I'd take Siusaluki up on his offer before you commit...Little solo's are really nice if they are a good fit for you and if your a large person, they might not be a good match at all. I've owned an OT Pack, and a Wenonah Vagabond. The Pack was just too little and wobbly for me...It was plenty stable, but it didnt feel like it was..The Vagabond was allot better in that regard. I could stand in it for short periods, but not to fish...Great Flatwater boat, but it took on water every time I ran the falls on the N. Fork of the White, or ran some big standing waves on the 11pt....Thinking my next solo will be the Wenonah Wilderness. Bit bigger, and hopefully drier than the Vagabond.

Barren Fork isnt far from Round Spring on the Current..Always think about stopping when I'm down that way, but never have.

LOL.....Sorry coulnt resist.....Base camp it at Lane Spring and burn some gas.....Fish right there, hit Mill, Spring Creek, drive a bit further if you want to hit the Roubi, Current, then hit Blue Spring & the Meramec on your way back. Lots of little warm water creeks to have fun on too...Pack your reference books and have some fun. Cheers.

Depends on how you tie them....Me...wire goes in at the back.....Hackle gets folded, tied in on the front and wound back. Wire gets wrapped forward to hold it down....Indestructable. You can do it the other way and that works too.Keep your candy in the water....a fish will eat it. Cheers.
