Friday PM...Al, Me, FishSWMO, Coldwater iffen he wants some vittles for he heads home, Mitch, Cricket? Saturday AM,,Al, Me, FishSWMO, Mitch...possibly a bunch from Missouri Smallmouth Alliance..Matt W, Steve H, and Steve W Saturday PM...no idea...will be headed home... Will be at Boiling Springs CG in Dixon starting Thursday night...c'mon down....if you havent declared by now... figure that your on your own for food and work out a float plan round the fire...Base camp, No Plan, Plan basically...go someplace...float someplace...catch fish......Cricket & FishSWMO check your PM for my cell #, usually turn it on once or twice a day... Others PM Mitch, Cricket, or FishSWMO for more current info from the river. I'm about packed & ready to hit the rack. See you on the river.
  4. Don's Craw http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/fly/doncray.html The MOAT...is just a big heavy stonefly pattern...brown round rubber legs, lots of tungsten beads, some lead & peacock colored dubbing..TMC 200R in size 4 or 6 if I remember it correctly...Call up Eleven Point Canoe Rental for an example of both...and the recipe for the MOAT.. If your in St. Louis...Tom Hargrove carries Don's Craw. Cheers.
  5. Great Job! The Bass & Pickeral would really go for those!
  6. They've been closed for the past couple of summers...Think they are focussing on groups more than day tags these days...Get a big group to stay for a couple days and they might open up. Otherwise...youll have to go in the Spring or Fall. Westover is still open for walk-in business, call them instead.Cheers.
  7. Al & I are floating tomorrow....meeting at 10am...up north of Waynesville if anyone else wants to float tomorrow. Gonna have to head home Saturday so dont buy a steak for me Mitch. Coldwater said he's not gonna make it down till late Thursday, he knows were were going and will let me know his float plan later today.
  8. Pulled pork turned out great. As for sides....beans, slaw, tater salad...whatever you like thats easy and can keep in a cooler.
  9. Havent been down that way in the summer for a couple of years. My Dad used to use Brown's allot...and he had allot of stories about Ralph Brown. I only met him a half dozen times...times but he was a memorable character. Tom Shipley of Brewer & Shipley did a documentary on Ralph Brown years ago...havent been able to track it down though. Andy, I'd probably float Cedar or Hwy 8 to Scotts Ford if you want a mix of trout & smallmouth...or Onandaga to Blue Spring for bass, and tall bluffs...Monday-Thurday timeframe would be best.
  10. Not excusing what has happened...but if its near Billings not many will notice...or care. FWIW, Utility corridors run under most every river that we have....you will cross one between 6x and Ross on your float next weekend...VERY common.
  11. Above Peters...yep...a couple nice spots down the way though...buddy has a place about 10 miles above Reiker...mostly spots...but has a spring and a few smallmouth....another friends family owns Goode's Mill Dam down near Union..Some good fishing below the dam...98% spotted bass these days, no hope for smallmouth down there, but good action for spots, drum, LMB, and the occassional walleye.
  12. Think you'll be OK between Slabtown and 6x...6x to Ross...is the party stretch.
  13. I'm out...sorry...I've made no progress.. no time to tie right now...barredrock can have my spot iffen he wants it.
  14. Good for you. I spent a couple days up at Eagle Ridge Resort on Galena Lake last month...Good time!..Work mostly, but I got in an hour of bank fishing on the lake one evening and caught a nice largemouth...( bank access stinks....get a boat next trip)...Nice resort community, some tough looking golf courses, and decent fishing...If you look a bit....you just might find a little creek with some decent smallmouth in it nearby. Cheers.
  15. Sure Al...I'm sure that we can work something out for Thursday. As for shuttles...I think that well have plenty of boats & vehicles to get the job done on Friday AM. By my count we have 4 committed for Thursday night. Thursday PM Al, Coldwater,FishSWMO, Gavin.... Friday PM Al, FishSWMO, Gavin, Mitch
  16. Horseflies suck, and the BB just aint what it used to be. Used to enjoy some good fishing at a private access about 10 miles above Reiker but its not what it used to be. Smallie numbers are way down. Given the choice...I'd head way upstream were the smallmouth still predominate (And wack some spotted bass while I'm at it). Cheers.
  17. Thats a nice float and the fishing is good. Zoom Superflukes in baitfish colors were the hot ticket on our last visit to the BP. Used up everyone we had in about 6 hours of fishing. Your mileage may vary...The usually suspects should work well too. Hope you have a great trip.
  18. Planning to load up the smoker with 40-50lbs of meat this weekend..Get me a head count and I'll bring enough pulled pork for dinner on Friday. Someone else can pop for the buns, & sides.
  19. I've had issues with tubes in the past....here's a good method for removing the hook when the inevitable happens http://www.electric-bass.org/throughTheGill.htm I'll stop fishing tubes if the fish are taking them agressively...maybe switch to a 4" Chomper Hula Grub or a Jig & Chunk...If I'm fishing out of the canoe...I'll probably be tossing a topwater or a fluke anyway. Flukes are great for canoe fishing because they give you lots of presentation options. Sometimes the fish like a fast underwater walk the dog type action, other times a slow dead stick presentation, or a sink & twitch...You can do all of that easilly with a fluke.
  20. I'm sure that the bass will eat em...if the trout dont.
  21. Congrats to your sport, and to you!
  22. Hall Pass is secured...will be heading down Thursday AM or PM.
  23. Good for you....thought about driving down this weekend, but yardwork interviened...such is life.
  24. River fishing is a bit easier IMO...the water isnt as deep so finding fish is allot easier...Figure out how the fish are relating to current, structure, and depth..then cover the water column top to bottom and you will find fish. Current seems and eddies are usually good, transition zones from shallow to deep, or deep to shallow, are good...or anything that offers cover or shade....Might take a couple riffle pool complexes to pattern them up, but its far from rocket science. Cheers.
