  1. Sounds like fun....There are tons of rainbows in the water below the park right now...hard to tie into a brown right now, but a big bushy dry fly sounds like the way to go for awhile. Hitting the road on business this week...but were planning to head down for the Troutbust at Ozark Mountain Ranch, June 3-5.
  2. Heck with it...I'll just tie something....
  3. Forgot, I committed to this....but Its a good excuse to wind a few..If its full up...I'll swap my spot with someone else who wants some swap flies, or tie a couple more. No big deal. The more the merrier.
  4. Do a little walking...Wade fishing success is paid for with lots of boot leather & disapointment, but you will find if you look.
  5. Your Scottish ancestors...are probably rolling in their graves....but you made the right decision ! Rising water is good...rip some big minnow type stuff....drag a sculpin....or nymph with dark, light, or bright flies....rubber leg stones, eggs, worms...stuff they can see...chartruese, black, dark brown......peach, white....lots of shot and a bobber if fly fishing.
  6. Ozark bass...one of the 3 goggle eye species in Missouri...
  7. Been to Hawaii a couple of times...I'd rather go fish the G. Nade too....lots of cows in that area though...I'd wanna to float the ten miles down to the place, and ten miles downstream before committing...Just to check out the neighbors "land use practices".
  8. If its just most & biggest....I'd say a fish is a fish...no need to measure unless you want to submit for big fish. IMO....a legit 17-18" is a good one...24-26" is toward the upper end of the food chain...its a rare fish that gets bigger than that.Cheers.
  9. Susky Tackle is reliable...I've ordered in the past with no issues...the Accent B-2 is a good one..one of the 3 types of buzzers that I carry. Lots of commotion...but little squeak...sometimes thats what they want.
  10. Hardly news...the Blue Ribbon trout area isnt so bad...there are a couple problem areas...two spots about a mile above Parker see some U.A. 4x4 activity...Cedar to Akers is a frigging mess.....particularly around Medlock, Flying W & Welch...heck my jogger buddy ran our shuttle on a 65 degree day last February...paddled down from Cedar for 2 miles...ran back up, picked up his truck & drove to Akers..and ran back up...had to cross the river once or twice...but most of his run was on 2 track.
  11. You should be able to leave a couple cars there. But 6x is only a mile downstream...If your going to the trouble of leaving cars there..you might as well skip 6x to Ross section unless your planning to finish up with the 6x to Ross stretch in the Monday-Wednesday timeframe..LOTS of Floaters on the Weekends.
  12. I've camped there before..Its nothing more than cut in a mudbank with a fire ring......Its on the west bank at the top of the big island not far above 6x. The roads are better on the east side of the river...Id access from Mason or Slabtown, and pull out at 6x or Ross. Cheers.
  13. I dont really give a hoot about what happens to Plex. Seems like he needs to do some legwork and find a spot with more gar in it if that is what what he's really after. I know that if I wanted to snag gar, suckers, spoonbill, what not. I'd go find a spot were they are the predominant species and do my best to ID my targets in order to limit my by-catch. Snagging for the occassional gar, in spot infested with a bunch of out of season spoonbill isnt really gar snagging, IMO. Cheers.
  14. That would be a hoot. Canoe race & fishing tourney! Not sure I like the idea of an assigned beat on the Current because some stretches are allot better than others....Let folks go where the want to go but dont let them camp out on a spot.
  15. The Winter Float Trippers are still alive & well..a couple pics from 2010 & 2011. Not much ice this year...just cold...but 2010 was a good year. 2011 Second WFT https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1730792923455.91763.1647470288&l=3c2de8d266 2011 WFT https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1668416564085.86423.1647470288&l=ffc2f18288 2010 WFT https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1242580478449.36258.1647470288&l=6a81a3e054
  16. Monty's arent worth allot...and the Flash is a pretty run of the mill model...Might fetch $175-200 if its in mint original condition, all full length sections, mint sock, & tube...Maybe $100 if it has issues or its been refinished...at least you have the 8.5' model..should work well with a 5 or 6wt...Fish the heck out of it and enjoy it.
  17. Snodgrass & Barclay....They speak like true Scottsmen....if they dont need a permit...they would be violating tradition by paying for something they dont need.
  18. Thats a great vid of the kids having fun on the river. Looks like you run a tight ship with room for some impromptu fun...Life Jackets on...tents & gear squared away round camp & in the boats... food in belly's and enough to go around.....Hope you have a great trip!
  19. The Busters are non-profit...so they run theirs as a bragging rights tourney. Most of the proceeds go to charity. And the winners might get a rod & reel (one that someone donates) and a plaques instead of cash. You'll have to figure out your own entry fee & payout percentage....Do you want to benefit charity, or the winners?... $50 fee, 25 entrants...$1,250 gross...75% to payout $937.50 (prizes & expenses)...net to the charity..$312.50. I can think of easier ways to raise $300 for charity.
  20. The Troutbusters have a one or two fly tourney at there campouts down at Ozark Mountain Ranch...They pair the contestants up randomly after breakfast then send them out..fishing starts & stops at certain times and the anglers must vouch for each other's catch.....Think they have prizes for most & biggest. I didnt play the game...but it seemed to work out pretty well.
  21. Not sure it would have an impact or not....I just hate to see another wild place defiled by a series of hydro electric dams. Figure I've got 32 years of fishing ahead of me before I hit 75......it will happen.
  22. Chile & Argentian have been on my wish list for a long time now.....Hope this doesnt happen. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gjJHQ6wvG-m0b51ImWx9I-FbB-3A?docId=d04c24f5797d4faebeea10c37a745d11
  23. The charge on the ticket is "Snagging paddlefish out of season". The season was closed on April 30th and you snagged 4 of them by your own admission..You definetly have an uphill battle if you want to fight it...How much is the fine? If its a small one, I'd pay it and move on...doesnt make you a bad person.
  24. Debarb your hooks as well...easier to unhook fish and humans...
  25. MDC reported an abundance of them in Oregon County on their Facebook page yesterday..should be going gangbusters in the Southern part of the state this week...nothing up here in St. Louis yet but I saw a couple of the nymphs in the yard last night.
