  1. Thanks, its a nice piece of birdseye maple...but I wouldnt use a sliding band on maple again...The wood is fine but the sliding band takes the finish off and it gets grey..........kinda like a well used Fender Guitar neck.
  2. My first 3 bamboo rods are in the picture and I've made a few more since that picture was taken..#003 is at the top is a 6' 1pc 3wt nodeless....#001 is third from the top, its a 7'6" 4wt Paul Young Perfectionist taper, #002 is on the bottom, its a 7' 4wt Dickerson 7012 taper.
  3. Laker, I assume your talking about the one one with the feather inlays....Its a 9wt Sage custom by Tom Hargrove..
  4. Looks nice, but its got a lot of rocker, and a pretty high bow..The one thing I dont like about my Wenonah Spirit II is that high bow. It causes a few problems when I solo it in strong wind. Congrats Eric...get lots of fishing in now....cuz youll be doing less of it in the future;>)! Cheers.
  5. Nice collection....how do you like those Caps reels? I like the styling, but hows the drag? Do they overspool easilly, or are they similar to a Hardy? Here's a glimpse at a few of mine from a several years ago...Think the current collection numbers between 15-20 fly rods, a similar number of reels, and a basement full of tackle and tying materials. Cheers.
  6. Paint the regs on the back of that big ugly chunk of concrete....No excuses then... Cheers.
  7. You cant go wrong with a Sage, best fly rod mfg on the planet today IMO, though I'd go with the 4pc. A 28" tube vs. a 55" tube..... the 4pc will be much easier to transport...fits in the canoe better, plus I can rarely tell the difference between a good 4pc and a 2pc rod. Lamson..they make some nice reels......But there are lots of good reel mfgs too...hard to find a bad one for $100. Rio makes a good fly lines. Sounds like a really nice setup. Cheers.
  8. Awesome! Sounds like your building some fantastic memories.
  9. I usually fish a 9' 5wt for trout and a 9' 7wt for smallmouth. A fast 9' 6wt would be a good compromise for both species...A bit heavy for 6x tippet and small dry fly work, and a bit underpowered for 50'+ casts with large air resistant bass bugs. There are lots of good rods and reels out there and it depends on how much you have to spend. Figure $250 for a mid-range rod...$100 for a decent reel, some flies, etc........figure youll spend $500-600 before you ever get to the river. I've never messed with the TFO's much, but its really hard to go wrong with a Sage fly rod. Cheers.
  10. Should be a lot of folks down there this weekend...Probably 75 or more from Ozark Fly Fishers alone on Saturday...probably a few less on Friday and Sunday. I've always done well with small cream midges the few times that I've visited in November...usually a size 22. Cheers.
  11. Its no big deal to do it yourself...but I'd trust a man with lots of experience and all the right tools.. Here's a pic of Tom spinning the grip on my new 10' 5wt. Cheers.
  12. You dont need a big selection for the NFoW...My #1 fly year in year out is a big black rubberleg stonefly...usually size 4,6, or 8... #2 is a Prince nymph 8-16 #3 is a golden stone 8-14, bring your regular nymph selection too, glo balls, san juans, some streamers and you should have it covered. Fishing is usually good at this level but you need to fish deep....Wear some blaze orange cuz there might be a few deer hunters out. Cheers.
  13. Nice job...building a boo rod is quite an accomplishment...What taper did you build, and how do you like it?
  14. Their mutant rainbows not a true golden trout.....Bought the ugliest trout that swims IMO...Thankfully that ugly yellow coloration will ensure that they get fished out quickly...course the hoosiers down there will probably high bank em cuz they look sick and flabby ;>)! Waste of money IMO. Cheers.
  15. Im in......
  16. Get a good pair of polarized glasses, spend some time looking for the fish you want catch, then go catch them. Cheers.
  17. I have those maps....I dont think they make em anymore...Lately I've been usuing this USGS tool to make free topo maps......just print em out in color and use em till they disintegrate. Cheers. http://wdr.water.usgs.gov/adrgmap/index.html
  18. Nope...I'm sure he could give you an estimate....His repair prices are very reasonable.
  19. Eric, If you want it to look nice....I'd take it over to Tom Hargrove and tell him what you want done.......www.thargrove.com.
  20. Sorry that the sight of a dead fish bothers you..... That was a 25" brown that a bud of mine caught on the Current a couple years ago. He's just a good ol' boy who likes to keep a fish every now an then. He skinning it out for a mount right there and we ate it later that evening along with some deer backstraps. It was quite tasty, and nothing was wasted if its any consolation. Heres a peek inside a couple of my crankbait boxes. Cheers.
  21. The water looks like its up a foot or so from normal but it sounds like you did pretty well for fishing near Vida Slab...The better habitat is on the upper end of the Lane to Vida stretch..And the first mile or two down from Vida is pretty ugly. Lots of channelized stretches, and eroded mud banks like the ones in you picture...fish dont usually like those areas.......Find some good habitat...tree lined banks, some depths, and some chunk rock, youll find fish on that creek, but its often a long way between spots like that. Thanks for the report. Cheers.
  22. Nice report...Thanks.
  23. Enjoy it till it binds on you....
  24. I'm for enforcement...what is out there is a friggin joke....I've seen some on the 11pt....but for the most part that was just the local sheriffs out jet boating and making a nuisance out of themselves....Dont tell me their out there in the woods....I'm pretty good at spotting stuff in the woods. I'd probably spot em, or their pickup truck, or hear thier pickup if they were truly out there. Gavin.
  25. Dunno...How big is your friend...he must have some really big hands if thats a 22" fish...
