    What's Cooking?

Forgot about that band. Used to listen to lots of that stuff while line cooking on Friday & Saturday nights at the Restaurant. Got the orders out quicker it seemed, but might have been all the cocaine. 30yrs ago.
  3. Thinking dead water till May but its a fun float. Pick a longer distance in case the fishing sucks.

    Redhorse

Would call that a great day. Good for you!
  5. Not worried. You get back what you put in on that creek. JoeD has and he catches. Have fished that river since 1980 or so and know many who fish it. Not that easy down there. Plan your shot, sneak up, and make your first cast count. Most fisherman want to stay in a "honey hole" and mole whack on spooked fish. Fine with me.
  6. Looks like a spot.

    What's Cooking?

Been working a ton, but today is the day to cook. Taco soup is in the crock, but have been craving a steak. Gonna grill in a bit.
  8. That sounds like a good time! Memphis is a fun town! But a 5 hr drive. Won't make it, but great idea.

Will have to do buckboard bacon...that looks awesome! Get hit with sinus problems a couple times a year (deviated septum). Don't wait. Shot of decadron (steroid), course of prednisone(steroid), better antibiotics (Zithromyicin, etc, don't let them give you amoxicillin), and some Flonase will have you up and ready to kick tail in 5-6 hours usually.
  10. Love the colors. Kinda like an Edwards I owned years ago. That thread bump is no big deal. Shave it off with a razor blade w/o cutting the wrap and add another coat of varnish. Half hour worth of work tops. Hope your wife made it through, and is in the clear. Radiation treatments can be rough.
  11. You can file for a title by affidavit, get it inspected by highway patrol first. PIA to do so. Used to do some tax work for an avid motorcycle collector. He passed on two years ago, but used to order bikes a from all over the world. He figured out how to title his stuff online in a couple other states that have easy online title processes, then he retitled in MO with the OOS title. Easier than the Missouri DMV. Figure they would encourage you to title and pay property tax, but they make it hard in MO.
  12. The guys said it was a slow weekend. Very few fish and nothing over 15-16". January produced some good brown trout for our bunch. Quite a few over 18", and a half dozen over 22", best 25-26". We usually float Baptist to Parker. Float in, base camp for two-4 days hike around and wade fish. Dawn, dusk, or after dark has always been best for big Browns. Occasionally good when the water is up, or a strong front is coming in. Blue bird and windy days with low water tend to suck, unless you catch a good dawn or dusk bite. The river has changed a lot but fish were still there. Mostly a Jerkbait or streamer bite. Think the scuds and caddis got ground ground up when all that gravel & sand got moved around. Doty's buddy One Sack Jack has been doing well with the jig head mega worm.
  13. Jealous! Good for you guys.
  14. Have heard differently. River has been fishing well for big fish reported by several who know how to fish for them. Could not make the float this weekend but buddies went out Friday. You might have had second hand water & sore lipped fish. When it's dead it is dead down there though. Maybe 1 stellar day out of a 4 day trip on average and stellar might last 30 minutes.
  15. Nice! Glad you got out.
  16. Glad your OK! Bit of a learning curve with that one.
  17. Always felt wobbly to me but never dumped it. The worst on that boat is getting in and out. Very little initial stability but fine when under way.
  18. dunno, just gonna enjoy wathching them grow up. 6yr old is an outspoken bullet. 8yr old is shy but devious. Will get interesting.
  19. Sub christ's sake with cheese & rice? I cuss loudly, and with inhibition. Will ignore or correct until they are good at it.
  20. Sure my turn in the barrel is coming...but my 6 &8yr olds will still confirm my delusions of grandeur if I buy them ice cream.
  21. Set low and away from the bend. The hitch mend keeps it broadside. Learned that from Uncle Syl. Miss that guy, lived out west put paid a visit to STL to visit family often. Wrote a few books on soft hackles and they are worth reading.
  22. Phillipsons are pretty nice. Like the 8.5' Dry Fly Special allot. Have a 6'9" boo 3wt that I like allot. Digere ICPH taper. Been 8-9 years since I've made a bamboo rod. Post some pics of your build.
  23. Deer hunting is very popular down there. Have seen lots of deer camps when floating in November.
