  1. The were already colored up last month. Bet I see some redds on the Current this weekend.
  2. Havent been out in almost a month but I do enjoy your reports.Shame about all those dead deer stinking things up. Hope this cool weather puts a stop to it.
  3. I use Suffix 6lb braid in Hi-Vis yellow on my two spin setups. One is a Medium, the other is a Medium Light with 2000 sized reels. It works great..plenty sensitive, but you need a leader for abrasion resistance..flouro or mono depending on the lure. 8lb in clear water, 12lb in stained.
  4. Good for you! Enjoyed the pics.
  5. Will be there. My wife and me are floating on Saturday if you want to work out a shuttle plan.
  6. Had some foam blocks years ago..Worked fine for awhile...until I had to drive 200 miles home on a very windy day...Never again.
  7. Craig @ Hargrove's does casting lessons...thargrove.com 9024 Manchester Rd, 63144. Ozark Fly Fishers does some classes in the spring as well. ozarkflyfishers.org Intermediate Fly Casting is the class you want.
  8. What length and power do you want? Mine are all short 5' with a 4" straight grip built for canoe fishing...but I think I want one thats just a bit longer..5.6" or so..Northfork Composites (Gary Loomis's new company) Makes some 5'6" blanks for $125 or so...will probably pick one up for a project this winter. If your fishing from a bass boat..you probably want a longer rod. Might look at mudhole.com...MHX blanks are pretty good and reasonable $40-50 for a blank...should be able to build one out for $100 or so. Rainshadow blanks by Batson are good too..bit more, but good rods.
  9. See what Yakima Racks has to offer www.yakima.com
  10. Good for you!
  11. Didnt hear about a closure down river....but who knows..not a place I've been in a long time. Should still be easy floating below Welch Spring at this level.
  12. Get that man signed up for the Rose Holland...He may have derby skills... I'm never surprised at what people take for the wall..Might be his first "legal" brown trout...I know one fellow who mounted 3 15" browns together on a stringer. It was the first time he ever caught his "limit" outside the troutpark. That was pretty hard to do back then.
  13. Its running at 47 cfs at Montauk and 157 cfs, and less than a foot on the Akers guage. Floatable, but very very low....pack light cuz you will be dragging a bit...Usually no dragging at 1.75 or so on the Akers Guage.
  14. Fly v. Spin...LOL...both work great if you know when & where to use em.
  15. Thanks for the report...and the float tips..
  16. Seems to depend on time of year & water temps...Fall, Winter, Spring...Mid-Day bite...Oppressively hot...Morning...or Evening into Night......My best ever was caught at 2:30 in the afternoon in April...The runner up was caught before sunrise in July......hotter than Heck.
  17. Its been a VERY drastic decrease Chief...Friend of mines family owns some sweet property on the Bourbuese.. Goode's Mill Dam just downstream from Union...First Mill Dam up from the Meramec mainstem and its been in the family for 50 years or so..Fish stack up there...bass, walleye, drum, whatever...spoonbill have been caught there. Some great pics on the wall of that clubhouse... It used to be a great smallmouth spot.....they are not there anymore......maybe one out of 20-30 8-10" spotted bass.
  18. Yesterday's rain popped a Bunch. Found 5, 3 softball sized, 2 football sized. Left em to grow. Some other stuff out too. Budding chickens, and lots of goats beards.
  19. Montauk is great in the winter time...no showers...but you have a water spigot and electricity. The bathroom in the lodge and the one by the hatchery is heated and open 24/7....plus there is a vault toilet down in loop 4. We usually spend Thanksgiving weekend there...no reservations needed because the CG is almost vacant. Dunno about Bennett.

Your living the good life! Happy Birthday BTW.
  21. The Black River in SE Missouri is exceptionally clear...but alot depends on rain.
  22. Guess they get big in the lake. Most of on the Meramec are 8" dinks and full of worms.
  23. No hens for me today but I found 5-6 lbs of fresh chicken of the woods. Maybe after the rain for my hen trees.
  24. Come fish the middle Meramec, Bourbeause, or Big River sometime...You'll be hating those darn spots in no time.
