  1. Like the Sammy 100 and Gunfish 95 better than the Spook...but I carry all 3...sometimes the fish show a preference for one over the others.. That SK bait looks like a Sammy knockoff. I'm sure it will work, and the price looks nice. If I wasnt long on Sammy's I'd probably give it a go.
  2. Did a musky on the fly trip up in Ontario years ago...10wt rod...12" of wire tippet, then about 4' of 20-30lb fluoro tied to a sinking head and running line. Flies were big articulated patterns with a double hook and half a chicken on the back..other half of the chicken and some bucktail on the front with eyballs the size of a quarter. Total fly length was in the 12-14" range...Super heavy rig...about the only way to cast it was to keep about 20' of line out the tip. Let your backcast flop to help water load the rod and shoot the rest on your forward cast. Dont think that a 7wt will toss a fly big enough to interest a musky. You'll want a boat as well. Cheers.
  3. Usually go with sharp, followed by cheap...and then a dunk in the pool to check the action on some baits. Our pool isnt open yet.
  4. A buddy of mine got struck by lightning on the bonefish flats several years ago. He got lucky, no permananent damage, but its nothing to mess with. Sounds like a memorable trip.
  5. Minor flesh wounds....Nice Fish. When is the fish fry!
  6. Been looking for a good used paddle jon for years...they are not out there...figure a good new canoe runs $1500 these days...$2200 with a trailer doesnt seem so bad.
  7. Oz, the boat your describing would be a paddle jon or a white river jon...flat bottom, fairly narrow with some rocker on both ends. Kyle Kosovich has made several old school river jons..and I've heard that they are very stable. Not sure if youd want a 20' boat..but the design looks like it could be shortened to 16' or so. http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/jim/ozarkian/index.htm
  8. Headed down to the Current for the next couple of weekends...tell me were I can pickup some signs and I'll knock a few out.
  9. You need to talk with Missouri Water Patrol...have your boat and motor inspected and get titles by affidavit before you head to DOR...Have fun!
  10. Thanks all...A couple months of 6 day workweeks doesnt do much for your tan....but thats a quick fix.
  11. Good Times...you caught some...and you know a big fish spot...If you spotted it...it can see you..mostly...figure out your approach and your money shot for next time.
  12. Obstacles can be stepping stones... I've never learned a darn thing when the fishing is stoopid easy.
  13. Thanks for the reports. Cahills are a definate possible this time of year..the hatch is usually at dusk and it continues into the gloaming. My wife and I are headed down to the Troutbust down at Pinecrest on Friday. Floating Tan Vat or Baptist down to Parker on Saturday if anyone with their own boat wants to help shuttle Saturday AM.
  14. Just renewed my membership.
  15. Sounds like a fun adventure!...Fishing bottom from a moving canoe is pretty hard to do...the boat has to be going slow or stopped for you to make good presentation..Works well if you can hold the boat on a log or a rock, anchor in a safe spot, or eddy out on the bank below and cast back up. Its allot easier to fish a faster moving bait if the boat is moving at a good clip....Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Flukes are great fish finders and they move well through the junk...and if the fish dont commit hit em with some plastic. Cheers.
  16. Some very nice catches...used to fish down below Saranac quite a bit when my Dad & his buddy's owned a bunch of lots in the old Bluffs CG...not much left but a bunch of burned out trailers there today.
  17. Muskrat would be another possible.
  18. I aint never seen a snake like dat bfur...Lets pick it up:>)!
  19. The Slab Queens should be out in full force once the weather hits 80 degrees...Look for their fat tatooed bodies near low water bridges. They are often parked in a folding lawn chairs waist deep in water surrounded be empty steel reserve cans, ciggy butts, and children in dirty diapers.
  20. http://www.missouricanoe.org/directory.html Here's a list of outfitters, most offer jon boats in addition to canoes..Better to camp on the river than a CG...cuz most of them arent that nice. Boiling Spring on the Gasconade was OK..Its about 2 miles below the confluence of the BP and Gasconade so you could float & fish both...Lay Z Day looked OK when I paddled past it on the Lower Big Piney on Wednesday but I've never stayed there. Wilderness Ridge or Rich's would be your best options on the Middle Piney (south of Fort Leonard Wood). Upper G. Nade...your best option is Gasconade Hills. Have a great trip!
  21. Awesome Video!
  22. Glad you are catchin some nice fish down there and look forward to your reports. Uploading photo's is pretty easy on this site..Hit the more reply options button in the reply to topic window and add them as attachments. You may have to resize them.
  23. If the point is truly to gather data on the number of paddlefish snaggers and paddlefish harvest make it a free permit. It might even help em crack down on the illegal trade in paddlefish eggs. If the point is to raise fees on paddlefish snaggers...thats fine with me too...Its an unsustainable fishery dependent on stocking. Folks might as well pay for the priveledge like trout anglers do.
