    An 9' 8 or 9wt should do, but you might want to look into a 10' rod for roll casting lead...TFO makes some 10' 8 & 9wt models in the Lefty Krey & Jim Teeny series. Think they retail for $200 or so. Have fun.

    Good point Chief...The dam was built by the CCC back in the late 1930 and it was silting in badly where the creek comes in...bet the creeks below there have a rather large number of chain pickeral & LMB in them now.

    That Sucks...I've stopped there many times to fish for Chain Pickeral...Hope they catch the moron(s) that did it but it couldnt have been that hard to do...the spillway valve is in plain sight right next to the parking lot.

    It shouldnt be too bad in that timeframe...Kids are all back in school now, and it wasnt bad last Saturday. We floated Akers to Pulltite with a group of 20 or so...The company & the cooler fishing was top notch, but the catching was lousy (its always is on that stretch)...I'd pick a different reach if you want to catch fish...I'd probably do Baptist to Cedar, or Cedar to Akers in that timeframe because gigging season opens on September 15th. There will probably be quite a few gig boats out in the evenings below Akers. Cheers.

    I really dont care what you do....They are your fish to keep or toss it back if your so inclined. There are a few glutton's out there though. Met a fellow once who bragged of routine 100 trout days at Bennett Springs and I have no reason to doubt him...Saw him on the water once or twice down there. He stood in the same spot all day long and wacked the stink out of fish. What a gluttonous bore.

    I only use braid on spinning reels. My current line of choice is the 6lb Suffix Performance braid in hi-vis yellow...and I always use a leader....The leader is there for two reasons...#1 the stuff is very thin and gravel, rocks, & logs will abrade it quickly. A mono or flouro leader takes that kind of punishment better.. #2 Its easier to break the leader off than to break the braid....no reason to sacrifice a bunch of good braid for a snag. Cheers.

    Depends on the size of the fly, or the size of the fish...Dont really use my 9wt in Missouri much, but its my go too for inshore saltwater species, silver, chum, & sockeye salmon...Do most of my bass fishing with a 7wt, occasionally an 8wt. Lightly used 8wts are pretty easy to come by. Good Luck.

    Wine corks work great for popper bodies..but you will have to figure out a way to cut them down into consitant workable sizes before you shape the heads. Balsa is a bit easier to work with because you can pick it up in different dimensions at the hobby store...A hobby miter box & saw or a homemade jig helps to make your cuts consistant. Bass poppers arent hard to make, but the process can be very time consuming. Have fun!

    From Tulsa...Weekdays...I'd be heading to Justin's place on the N. Fork...Base camp it at Sunburst Ranch and do a differnt float each day.

    Big boat in skinny water....works pretty well. The 16' buffaloe paddles pretty well solo or tandem...

    Simms Flats Sneaker These work pretty well for fine gravel bottom streams...wear a sock and roll it over the top to prevent gravel intrusion...Youll want felts & cleats if there are allot of slick rocks....Sandals work OK, if your just out canoeing. Cheers.

    Dat would be a yes!...Wenonah Vagabond is Al's boat of choice....used to have one...not one for standing & casting...but a great boat if you plan to sit & cast....Used to have one, but I didnt float it much...maybe 4-5 days a year...usually took my tandem canoe because I can stand up and walk around in it....another board member has it now...havent heard how he likes it....but I miss it....would buy it back...but thinking Cuda...

    Interesting resouce Tim but how do you use it? Looked at the maps, then the link.....its all "threats of impact"....dont know the vocabulary, but I looked up 6 stretches just now...3 that suck, 3 that are great....to ones that suck had some yellow or red zones....ones that rock....other end of the scale.

    Too much frog water on the Gasconade...head to the Current, Jack's Fork, or Big Piney instead.
