  1. A wannabee musician camp sounds like fun...I'd be up for it...John is on his own right know, but he's gotten some aclaim for his skills as a luthier. He does work for lots of big names...Eric, your cousins a pretty darn good classical player...he could play on any street corner in Sevilla and fit right in. Crickets bud isnt bad either...first number is a fun one but pretty easy...second one reminds me of a Neil Young... Another fellow you might check out....Tommy Emmanuel from Australia...saw him at the Sheldon last year....incredible guitar player.
  2. Wheat.Lets get the bad news out of the way..I heard that Riddles closed recently, but I had many great times at that place...decent food and a great wine list...I dont know Charlie from the mules.... but John Higgins & his wife Kally Sue are freinds of our ours...John use to play lead guitar with them...but he's playing pedal steel with Liquid Gold these days...Small world....They will be playing the Shanti in Soulard 4-7pm this Saturday..My wife and I may drop by....hit that first, dinner party up in Benton Park 2nd, then hit the Venice before a cab ride home. I pick a little guitar myself...badly....might have to start a round up the wanna-bee musicians thread.
  3. Eric, just feel pleased that 2/3 of the questions we missed...pertained to char & salmon....not trout, LOL! Used to be a member of TU so I'm already on their list....they email me and send stuff all the time...but I'm not gonna give them a nickle, same with the FFF. Cheers.
  4. I dont care what yall tie...just make it something interesting. Cheers.
  5. 7/10...missed the char, sockeye, and insect water quality question...still fun. Thanks.
  6. Very nice, your boys are turning into little fish rippers! Better watch out, they might be outfishing you soon;>)!
  7. I've always wanted one of these.. http://www.woodwatercraft.com/AuSableRiverBoat.html http://www.guilttrip.com/html/the_au_sable_river_boat.html My friends John & Jeff, & Steve from MI guide out of them, and they have some really neat features, particularly the fish box under the front seat (works as storage & a cooler), the rod holders on the frames, and the false floor to keep stuff dry...I'll probably incorporate most of them whenever I get around to building a boat. Cheers.
  8. Sure why not...It would give me an excuse to tie some flies.
  9. I wasnt a fan of the urban program years ago...but I got over it. People seem to get allot of enjoyment out of it and those fish dont go to waste..The lakes they stock near my house see a ton of anglers..Fewer people out now that they are frozen but there are still people fishing...Not my cup of tea, but I see nothing wrong with it. Cheers.
  10. Some very nice shots in there...youve been busy..Thanks for putting that together.
  11. The folks at Schillers should be able to help...stop by on your next trip to Hargroves or FC. Cheers.
  12. Sounds like fun!
  13. Yep, across the creek from our camp last January & February...Persistant cold rain, rotten beaver stink, no tarp, & soggy wood. Ended up eating our dinner nose to nose off the top of a cooler with a golf umbrella over our heads..Good Times!
  14. There are a few copies available on Alibris.com Cheers
  15. Looking forward to it!
  16. Awesome, Were did you get your plans? There are several of them out there..There's a plan for a 14' in Larry Dabblemont's Books and a couple over at Duckworks...Plus this one.. http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/periodicals/bittersweet/wi73b.htm
  17. Had a really nasty one down at Dead Beaver Camp Hole (2nd Bluff below Ashley Creek with the chimney rock) 8-10 years ago. It was a mid-April Saturday, cold rain and the river was up about 2-3ft. Paul Dallas's brother Phil & his friend Neil dumped their canoe at the top of the hole...both were wearing hip boots and and had a hard time getting to shore but they made it.. Paul & I set to gathering their gear while Phil & Neil gathered their wits, and some wood...I tried to cross the river at the top of the hole to grab a couple of dry bags floating across the way, when the gravel cratered under my feet and I went floating on down into that 20' deep hole...I was really glad to see Dallas's canoe coming to get me. 3 out of the 4 of us were wet, so we decided to camp on the gravel bar just below there...While setting camp, we noticed a big stink and tracked down the source...There was a giant dead beaver bloated & floating in the small eddy in front of camp. So we got a big stick and pushed it out into the Current....Funny thing was it floated back to camp not once...but twice. before we got rid of it....And thats the story of how Dead Beaver Camp Hole got its name. Maybe someone will chime in with the story of Loch Ness;>)! Cheers.
  18. I'd feel like Buzz Light Year..Too infinity and beyond!
  19. Didnt think they could do much more to make that place look like a city park/golf course...Guess I was wrong;>)!
  20. Sounds like fun and thanks for the reports! A dunk in cold weather is always a bummer....always bring have some extra clothes, and something to start a fire..a bag of matchlight charcoal works great in a pinch (no need to gather wood). Cheers.
  21. Ditto...last time I fished BSC was during a 10-12' rise on the Meramec. BSC was only up about a foot, and a touch cloudy so it should be low and clear right now. Sneak up, and make that first cast count! Cheers.
  22. The Pageant is a fun venue...Joe Edwards (Mr. U. City Loop/Blueberry Hill owner) developed the place...Just ordered tickets...came to $47.10 for GA...sometimes you can get reserved seating in the balconies, but I didnt see anything available. Should be fun either way..Plus the loop is a fun place to visit..Lots of bars, restaurants, and people watching to the west of the Pageant. Not much you want to explore to the East.
  23. Think JJ Grey is playing the Pageant St. Louis on February 5th....will try to get there...Saw Willie a couple years ago at the Fox...I've seen him several times and his show was pretty weak this go around..Think he needs to hang it up. Old Crow Medicine show is good...but there are lots of great small bands out there...I pick up allot of music at shows, & gas stations in small towns...Some you've probably never heard of...The Flying Mules, Ranger Dave Montgomery, David & Rosalyn from NOLA, Hobo Jim from AK, George Portz & his friends of Bluegrass, Missouri Bluegras Band, The Roundups...not sure if they have a CD yet, but some friends of ours play in a band called "Liquid Gold"....4-7pm every other Saturday at the Shanti in Soulard. Its a good show.
  24. Caught a Bat on a dry fly during a hex hatch once...Sucker grabbed my fly off the surface and wouldnt let go.
