  1. I always like to read your posts rps. I think you are an outside the box thinker. I am in on the cooperative! I might have to work out before I don the wife beater though. Shave my back, trim arm pit hair and that sort of thing. I do spend a ton of money on Jewel jigs and have thought about either asking them to sponsor me, (SHAMELESS PLUG COMING-i have one coffee sponsor now Kuhlman's Koffee) or make my own with the Do-It jig molds. I have purchased other types of similar jigs, but they really don't seem to work as well. I am not sure if the home made ones would work as well as theirs either. If they did work, we could sell them on Ebay with our cooperative shirts. I love Chompers for the drop shot, but I use Yamamoto and Kinami for the twin tailed grubs. They are softer and don't last as near as long, but have great action. Sometimes I almost want to taste one myself. I am in on the cooperative. Seriously.....I wonder what type of quantity we would have to buy for a discount? I hear they are coming out with a new color.
  2. Thanks Stragler. I am probably going to stay with the jigs I like. I think I fish a bit slower than some. I heard Eric say on his radio show one time that Eakins was one of the slowest fisherman he knew. He also mentioned he was one of the best jig fisherman. (Please don't tell him I listen to his rantin and raving on the show). I do appreciate his input though. This site sure does save me a ton of time and money on trial and error with lures, water and techniques. Sometimes I wish we got into more in depth discussions on that line of topics. There are so many different ways to fish and use the tackle that it is amazing. Most guys seem to have one or two main ways they like to fish at a certain time of the year. I would like to have a bigger arsenal. I haven't even begun to experiment with flukes and spoons much.
  3. I guess that is why Eric dresses like a Pro Fisherman and makes his living with this stuff and I dress like a red neck and work a job! Thanks for the info. Another reason to purchase more jigs.
  4. I think it is personal preference. I would lean more toward the 1/2 ounce and 3/8 myself. I use a lot of 5/16 and 7/16 in the Jewels. I use a larger tail to slow the fall or a bit smaller tail to speed up the descent. It seems like they hit it more often on the fall anyway. If not, I let it sit for a few seconds and they hit it on the first move. I think they sit down there and watch it. I have some 5/8 for deeper and faster times. If I fish the Pro/AM I always take the heavier ones in case the boat is moving faster than I am used to. I still think the size depends a lot on what you like and the way you fish. I hope you get a good answer from one of these smarter folks though.....or you might need a net!
  5. Holy Cow SkeeterP. I am guessing you fish out of a Skeeter? Me too! That is some good fishing. The ones we caught Sunday were spittin up orange crawdads too. Of course our trailers went that color too! I had fish busting the surface all around me in the evening, but I couldn't get them to chase or hit the red fin or any other top water bait. Top water is my favorite, but haven't had as much luck this year as past years. Even the spring was not good top water for us.
  6. Thanks for the credit, but I think someone else told me about the jigs first. I do wish those guys would send me a ton of free ones for telling everyone about them. It would help offset the costs of the little tourneys and the jigs my partners and children leave forty feet up in the trees (maybe a few of those were mine). The jigs seem to do the trick for me. It is funny you mention the camera jinx. I have the same one. I also have a fishing net jinx. If I get the net out, we won't catch anything of any size at all. Glad you had a great week. See you in April!
  7. I guess I haven't been caught yet, but I fish those very docks often. I had to put in at Mills Creek today. I spent part of the day a t a friends lake cabin visiting. I saw Buster had put in there too. We caught seven today. All shorts. Some at twelve feet and some at eighteen feet. We caught them on crank bait, Jewel jig and drop shot. We had one hit on spinner bait. I have to confess that I am not the biggest fan of the spinner bait and usually don't stay with it long. All in all it was a great day with great stories and a few fish.
  8. Sounds like great news!
  9. Sorry you had to go through that, but glad you had great service. Best wishes on the tourney.
  10. Welcome from a Missouri fisherman! Nice fish.
  11. I heard Palin speak when I lived in Alaska. I can tell you that parts of the speech were hers. She has a tongue in cheek kind of humor. Parts of it was not hers. The best parts I think were written by her. The delivery was all hers. The way she paused and told the pit bull joke when the hockey moms signs went up was priceless. I wonder if it was part of the speech or something she threw in there at the time.
  12. I couldn't find the Lock Jaw ones. Are you guys using something similar to this? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...__SearchResults Except with feathered trebles? The extra hook on the line makes good sense too. Everytime I think I have something figured out, another technique pops up.
  13. EP, Haven't seen you for a month!

  15. That is the reason you bring a pool boy on fishing vacations with your wife!
  16. I can't find the data to back it up, but I think Taney and Stone lean (heavily) toward Republican. I didn't post a reply prior, because of the lack of data to back it up.
  17. I have tried to stay out of this one. I moved here from Alaska. I will say that this election has created a great deal more interest than any other I can remember. Either way we make history!
  18. Wow! That is a nice looking boat. I am going to show the ad to my neighbor. DO you still have it?
  19. Probably not. It was what was wrong with mine. Hope it is easy to fix.
  20. Going to sound silly......but when I purchased my boat the knot was too big where it tied into the eye hook and wouldn't let my trolling motor lock in. When I turned it on high I would look like a blooper reel from a Tenessee fisherman. I wonder if your knot it too big?
  21. Thanks for sharing. I can't go until Wednesday and Thursday. We are supposed to get soaked then! Hopefully no lightening.
  22. Don, I vertically fish spoons, but haven't used them around the docks much. We have mostly used hammered and white 1/2 ouncers for vertical on the trees and bridge piers. Would you be willing to comment on size of spoon, retrieve speed and give a rookie some ideas? We used to fish for northerns on Rainy Lake with spoons. We used 3/4 to 1 ounce and just cast them in and did a fairly fast retrieve. The spoons there were cupped kind of like the Doctor Spoons so the wobbled back and forth. The spoons here seem to be more flat with a treble hook and get caught up more. We also used a steel leader up there. Do you use leaders? I almost cried when you said the football jig bite is slowing. If that is too much info to give away, I totally understand too.
  23. I love fishing even on the bad days. I appreciate your report, because it helps narrow down the waters for the rest of us. Thanks for the report.
  24. HeyQ Where have ya been? I miss your reports.

    Ozark Anglers

Ozark Anglers is huge. I didn't even know we had a blog. It takes me forever just to browse the forum to see if there is anything I am interested in each day. I like the group of people we have that share information. I told my friend, Tom, exactly where I caught some bass yesterday on Table Rock so he could go try there. He shares information and things he has learned with me. I think I am going to use this blog like diary of sorts. I love fishing, but Table Rock has been a challenge. I think I have it figured out, then it changes on me. I think I am going to fish the Anglers in Action tournament series next year. I have one sponsor of sorts, Kuhlman's Koffee. He gives me free coffee on occasion. I wish I could land Eakins as a sponsor. I use their stuf almost exclusively and ended up buying a ton of jigs each year. Purchased six more yesterday. If I could get them and Yamamoto to give me some of the magic grubs, it would cut down on the cost of fishing a great deal. I am considering making my own jigs, but time is always an issue.
