Amazon has since released the update that is supposed to fix a majority of the complaints it's had so far...

The Fire's reviews have been very sketchy, from slow performance, slow touch screen recognition, and lack of security...They are supposed to have firmware updates coming soon, but I wouldn't jump on that bandwagon anytime soon until some solid updates and reviews of it came out...
Everyone needs a daily park trout tag, even youth...If you fish outside the park though, only youth 6-15 need the $3.50 stamp...

In waters designated fly fishing only, a fly shall be constructed on a single point hook of feathers, tinsel, chenille, yarn, fur, silk, rayon or nylon thread or floss, with or without a spinner
A coffee bean doesn't really fall into any of those categories...
Go here and sign up. You'll get a book called 200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures. It's getting a little out of date, but a lot of the access points are still valid. It's a very usefull book on knowing where to find the best smallmouth fishing in Missouri...

Lots of good info on the MSA website too...
Also Al Agnew on here is a good resource as he's very well versed in the small mouth streams in Missouri...
As for good rivers close to Columbia, the Gasconade is probably about as good as it gets for lots of nice smallmouths...
Nope. It's actually just 10lb clear Triline mono. It looks green because there was a funky green film on the lake all last week. It coated my line and looks green on the spool.
We had a small "tournament" going on at my work place in which we had from March 1 to October 31. The winner would catch the biggest fish percentage-wise with respect to the state record fish in the state the fish was caught in...The rule was that you had to take a picture of the fish on the scale with the numbers clearly readable. The losers all had to pay the winner $20, and there were 5 of us that participated. The winner ended up being a 1lb 6oz white crappie which put it at 30.1% of the state record caught out of a creek off the lower Meramec River.
These were 3 of the fish I caught during the last week of competition this year that were close to beating that crappie. All caught on a local St. Louis lake with a chartreuse/black Square-A Bomber.
3lb 0oz (21.6%)
4lb 1oz (28.8%)
3lb 1oz (22.01%)
I did catch this smallmouth earlier in the summer that would have blown the crappie away but I don't know how much it weighed because my scale got wet and stopped working so I couldn't weigh it. I'm guessing it was 2.5-3lbs which would have been around 35-42% of the state record...Oh well, there's always next year and it was fun fishing just about every day that I could get in...
Hopefully if all goes well I'll be getting an Ocean Kayak Prowler 11T at the end of the year...From the reviews they look like a pretty good anglers kayak, albeit kind of pricey (around $900)....it has a much longer "rod pod" storage area than the Ride does and has a little better storage options...
I won't be paying a dime for it because it'll come from my work's bonus program we have...
That is the law though...The land owner owns the banks, the sand bars and the bottom of the stream, but they do not own the water that flows in the stream so you can float it, but you can't walk it. The only exception is if there's an obstruction and you have to portage your vessle...
Well, didn't have much of a chance to fish this weekend but I did get out for a couple hours today. Accessed the river at the Talbot CA access off CR1082. Didn't bring my wading stuff and I wish I had. Beautiful small stream right there and would have been great to wade and even better to float. Lots of low overhanging trees and sort of steep banks made bank fishing tough. Spent lots of time getting untangled from branches. Didn't see many fish though where I was though. I did catch 4 or 5 log perch on a rooster tail and that's it. I'll definately have to bring the kayak I'm getting in the off season next time to float it.
What's the word on this stretch of the river? I'm heading down to the in-laws near Mt. Vernon this weekend and I might work my way into slipping out to fish a little bit of it if it's anything worth fishing...Any smallies in there? Any easy access points where one could fish from? Any wadeable places? I really don't know much about this river other than I saw it on Google maps and it was near my in-laws' place...
