  1. You have seen how much homework I do on the lake, is it a wonder with those maps how I find fish lol
  2. You think you have it bad now wait till you pick up your first striper over 20 doing it. Then you will be impossible to live with.
  3. LMAO I feel your pain
  4. Marty you are making think about a drive, looks like some nice birds to be had.
  5. i think its catching fish thats rubbing off on you
  6. Ya I snagged it while trolling, honestly thought I had snagged a big log/limb. Pulled in the second line and backed down on the (snag) it finally kicked back and my first thought was I had a Flathead. When it came up to the surface I could see it was a paddlefish. I reached down and unhooked it, I kept having visions of the hooks popping out and nailing me. Neat fish but not fun experience in high winds boat bouncing trying to unhook it. maybe a 60lb fish at most.
  7. ONLY CORPS PARKS ARE CLOSED, You can still be on the lake and on the shores and hunt them even. 12 bridge is AGFC and there are numerous other private ramps. I specifically asked the question on ACE website on Facebook for Beaver lake and have the reply.
  8. Primarily main lake stuff is all I messed with. Need a few more fronts and good rain to get them going up the main creek arms though there is always some in them.
  9. Wouldn't be nice for them to actually do something that would make since after all the entire point is to give northern hunters a chance at the BWT as they are mostly gone by regular season opener. I have said for years open it the 3rd Saturday in September and run it for 30 days instead of 15. You get a lot of people crying that we would kill them all when most biologist I have spoke to said hunters account for less than 10% of the mortality of waterfowl.
  10. Not on Beaver this weekend, but I would suspect the cold played a part in that, Its the time when most people are starting to winterize the boats so this shutdown shouldn't affect Beaver that much, now if it was true summer it would be a major issue.
  11. Justin, why do they take them to the ER instead of a family doctor? My assumption would be they know that they can go to an ER and then not pay the bill, If they did it to a Doctor in office the doctor would have the right to file a small claim in court. A simple solution is require ER ( NON LIFE THREATENING VISITS ) Afford and allow for the same small claim based off the pricing of a office visit. I say that because I have seen these ER visits cost way more than an OV and a simple exam in an ER should be no more than that of a OV visit of the same type. This would potentially stop the abuse of ER. But I will go back to this law ACA is a bad one, our politicians and in this case clearly the democrats need to knock off their ( no compromise ) stance. It is simple really is the Bill and again I posted it simply asked for delay of mandatory implementation and to deal away with exemptions. Hey what so hard to understand about that. 1 the delay would allow for trying to fix whats wrong and with the wrongs it is hard to get it the exchanges are NOT able to handle the volume that is not a myth or a maybe its a fact being reported by all news sources not only in this country but world wide so delay it for a year. Delay means people can still sign up but give everyone time and time to fix the problems. As to exemptions that is illegal by law. My god how hard is it to say its not ready and ok we will delay and work together to fix it. I could get behind that and if the Senate would agree to it the dung down is over, well until the 17th then we go through it again im betting. But lets fix the ACA it needs it.
  12. Phil I briefly ran buy Prairie Creek yesterday and saw a few boats in the parking lot, either they moved the barricades or were doing something else, I cant say for sure but its suppose to be closed. Marina parking lot had fewer cars in it than normal but also could have been from the cold weather. 12 Bridge lot was much busier than normal for this time of year as were other ramps non-corp operated so my guess is some are moving barricades others are not wanting to push the issue.
  13. But will the majority of the youths see it that way? Older people myself included ( and as a youth ) Knew the value of insurance in the case of catastrophe, but more and more I see kids today believe they superman and rather spend money on toys than on security. Combined with the knowledge they can apply and must be given insurance if something happens I believe many will take the fine route over the security route.
  14. If it is "life saving requirement" then yes. How crazy is that, but remember as soon as you are stable out you go. Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) In 1986, Congress enacted the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. Section 1867 of the Social Security Act imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals that offer emergency services to provide a medical screening examination (MSE) when a request is made for examination or treatment for an emergency medical condition (EMC), including active labor, regardless of an individual's ability to pay. Hospitals are then required to provide stabilizing treatment for patients with EMCs. If a hospital is unable to stabilize a patient within its capability, or if the patient requests, an appropriate transfer should be implemented.
  15. 695 vs 1200 still betting on the lesser of two dollar amounts. And even then it still doesn't address the funding for the aging and their healthcare. If the fine is cheaper than the product why pay the product will be their mentality.
  16. Yes and no Quill. They are required by law to provide life saving aid. However once stable they will kick the person out. Then they will bill them. Now that is the interesting part. The patient does not have to pay for it the hospitals can try all they want to collect but the most that happens is the patient getting dinged on their credit and lets face it if they couldn't pay they probably don't care about their credit as its probably bad already. That's the simple version
  17. Justin you are making the same assumption the government is that young people will join. With a penalty for not joining of $95.00 a year I believe most young people will not participate thus putting more of a strain on healthcare and a burden on those with insurance. If health care to a young person is lets say 100.00 a month versus 95 a year in fines the youth will take the 95 over 1200. Especially with the fact in the bill that they could in a catastrophic illness sign up and be covered at that point. Just one of the many flaws of the ACA. Without the youth signing on to pay which builds up a catastrophic fund that is not used by them for 20 years or more the older people who are ill will quickly drain that fund.
  18. Mark you brought up religion, though I hate organized religion and try to avoid talking about it as it is typically a taboo subject this thread has remained so I will give my input. First as regarding healthcare and religion, I point you to Matthew 22:17-21 where when confronted on taxes Christ answered to give unto Caesar that which is Caesars and to god that which is gods. We are required by law to pay our taxes so until this law is repealed we must adhere to it as it is a tax as ruled by the Supreme Court. So the lord requires we do pay our taxes, this law has a tax of $95.00 roughly give or take for not participating in the program. But if you are in the program you pay nothing! So is it a “tax” or not as a tax by law is suppose to be uniform throughout. “ Section. 8.The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;” This law is not uniform by any means as required by the Constitution and there are still many challenges pending to the law based on it just not being covered. Next I point you to 1 Timothy chapter 5 for your answers as to the Nation through this “tax” tend the people. It speaks of the widow and how family and church should tend to them but also puts requirements to the widow Many think Christ talked more about money than anything but that is not true, his favorite conversation arguably was on the kingdom of god and who will be there and how to get there and to that Charity and Wealthy as well as Character were often involved in the conversations. In Charity this was one that speaks to the heart of a person as it is a sacrifice those with more can aid toward those with less. It directly ties to the Wealthy as it is stated in Mathew 19;24. We should all be charitable as the most important thing to God is people but charity must be from the heart as the heart is where God resides in all people. Christ was no fool though and understood there are those who would abuse the charity and love of others so he spoke of those who would take advantage of charity and love. Going back to 1 Timothy chapter 5 again specifically verse 6 so long as a person lives outside their means “ in today’s society having the big flat screen the nice car the overpriced for their income house etc” they are not fulfilling the requirement of verse 5. They in fact can be likened to the parable of the workers in the field in Mathew 20. So do we owe it to those of less to aid them is the question? The answer is yes and there are numerous existing laws to provide for their care and there is numerous charitable organizations to provide and aid in this. Physicians even have their oath based around this. However the question before us is, is it our government’s job to force this upon us? To this I say the answer is resoundingly NO! I support several charitable organizations fulfilling my Christian obligations along with other things I do not openly discuss. This is because of my belief in Christ teaching about charity and prayer and humbleness Mathew 6. Government taxation is legal and is approved by Christ, However our Government is to not allow religion to come in to the making of law (I will say I disagree with this but that’s for another topic) I will do as required of my by that law until it is repealed or removed, I will continue to do my Christian obligations as commanded. But make no mistake I do not have to approve of a bad law and I do not have to approve of those taking advantage of the system and abusing it. I believe our government has taken Christ entitlements and the restriction of them to a level of the money changers in the temple. I DO NOT know the end game of these entitlement programs, but on the Christian answer helping those that refuse to help themselves is wrong and only breeds a society or members of society that will not pull their own weight yet want and believe everything should be given to them and that is clearly against gods will. Your example of the woman trying to get ahead with a child with medical conditions could have been argued at one time to be a good point but it has been used as I pointed out to the point most are numb to it. If that woman is truly in that situation there are numerous groups to aid her and programs to help her. There is the problem with entitlement programs, they actually benefit those doing nothing. The programs should have an endgame. If a person needs the help by all means let us help them but help by providing education and job placement services as the end game so they can better themselves and provide for themselves and family. Unfortunately and until that is a requirement of the programs they are actually a burden upon society as they drain the nation and those who do work hard, so I ask is it fair to drain those who do work hard and earn their way in life to provide for those who do not and will not?
  19. Not sure what to tell you Wilson, I kept catching and catching wasn't hard to locate them all the sonar shots showed them as well. What bait were you susing and what speed were you going? and did you go in shallow and sweep the point like I told you? because they are definitely on it. These were checked with the Aquavu, so no doubt they were crappie.
  20. BINGO. but at the same time when a person is well enough they are discharged and if they come back non-life-threatening they are expected to pay for services rendered. And I believe people should pay for health care, but I do not believe I should be paying for someone elses. Again going back to I work hard and have spent a lot of money on my education ( and yes I paid for it ) so why should I have to pay for someone else, that is basically theft. Would you let someone come in your house and take all your food or clothing? Do you buy meals for every homeless person you see or give every one of them ,money on the corner.
  21. Dude I was Married to a Irish, Redhead, New Yorker. Nothing can be worse than that.
  22. How about all the kids in Africa that have no medical, Or Mexico or South America. Does an Inner City Child deserve more than they do. Just because they were born in America? Sorry the "Poor child poor me" argument will NEVER work with me. I struggled I went through medical crises and yet somehow managed to find ways, There are programs to help people in emergency situation. But Na the poor child argument will never work with me. Good tactic but doesn't hold water in my book. call me cold or whatever. But people need to EARN their way in life and Earn what they get, not have it "entitled to them"
  23. Someone once told me fishing is very tuff after a strong cold front. Perhaps he should have told the fish that. This has to have been one of my better days on the lake in some time, Wind was howling out of the Northwest guessing 15 to 20, Water temp was 73 to 75. The lake appears to be turned over as I could not find a thermocline and the algae bloom appears over as well. Fishing depth was 8 to 15 FOW. Species accounted for: 1. Walleye 2. Smallmouth 3. Kentucky 4. Black 5. Striper 6. Crappie 7. Catfish 8. Paddlefish 9. Gar 10. Perch 11. Hybrid 12 White Trolling flicker shad # 5 and #6 in Pearl White 140ft back with 10lb fluorocarbon from 2.2 to 2.9 mph. Depth was 20fow with brush in it fish were suspending above the brush until this afternoon when they moved shallow on cover in 16 to 8fow. It did not matter if you were on a Point , Secondary Point, Flat or channel, if you could find cover in 20fow there was fish on it Crappie were averaging 12'' and some to 16''. I was actually playing catch and release with crappie for most the day, Releasing crappie because you were limited is never a bad thing Anyway here are some pics from the day and some of the participants.
  24. Certainly ( If they work for it and EARN IT ). Hey when I first started out I couldn't afford the best of the best of anything but through hard work determination I can now afford what I want. So if someone wants to work hard and EARN IT then by all means they should be entitled to what they earn.
