  1. Wrench; the first “assault style weapon” of the modern age was the German Sturmgewehr 44, and it is where in 1989 the term was struck as its meaning in German is storm (or assault) rifle. It was a select fire weapon capable of full-auto. The STG44 looks very much like the AR Platform guns and AK style guns. I would love to own one as a ww2 buff and I have shot one, It was the perfect close quarter combat weapon for the time in the range it was designed for. Other nations Militaries quickly tried to catch up to the German gun the AK from the Soviet Union and the M16 from America. Both those were select fire weapons just as the STG was. 300meter or under weapons, and they were fairly reliable the AK being probably the most reliable gun of that type and class. Then came the civilian market for these weapons, just as throughout this country’s history of military weapons working themselves into the civilian market place. Or in some cases the reverse, the civilian weapons however are single shot weapons, pull the trigger one time and one bullet comes out. The civilian weapons though IMO have progressed far beyond their intended role as a military weapon, you have 22cal plinking rifles and 22 cal set up for squirrel hunting to 300 winmag and even a few guys playing with the 408 cheytac. They can easily be called one of the most produced hunting rifles and sporting rifles. Honestly the only assault characteristic these guns have is high capacity magazines but you still have to depress the trigger each time for a bullet to go out. And they are black, I wonder if we painted them to look like a rainbow if they would be less scary? Now I do agree with you some people want them for no more a reason than they look military, however more and more people getting them are building weapons that far surpass the accuracy and ability of their military counter parts it is a platform that is suited for endless modification. But I cant look at you and say you can’t have it because you want a military looking gun when I have one that I built for hunting. I was with a friend for a while yesterday who finished his latest build, it’s a 308 cal, AR10 platform but by the time he had the custom barrel, custom work to both upper and lower adding a bi-pod forward and mono-pod back and a swarovski scope I can guess he has close to 9grand in the gun and it’s a sub moa gun. It is in no way a assault rifle but on first look appears to be one. And here we are back to looks.

There will be a virtual show promoted by the leaders of the Boycot of this show and ive been looking over some of the stuff, Had it not been for this boycott i would never known about the products and some of them are pretty nice. http://mynortheastclassifieds.com/ the boycott FB page has a few of the links to the vendors at http://www.facebook.com/BoycottTheEasternSportsAndOutdoorShow#!/BoycottTheEasternSportsAndOutdoorShow
  10. John, I love it, What I love most is getting new commers in on it and especially kids. I swear i wear a smile for a week after, last year i got a group of 5 kids in on it and their parents, Grandpa owned the land and he and I hunted it for years, I didnt fire a shot all day but was giggling like a school girl watching them blast away. I still get calls from them wanting to know when we are going again, and best part is i tell them when your grandpa says lets go we go. He says he loves hearing the kids excitment asking " grampa are they there yet".
  11. lol, ya i know what you mean, I get it all out of me on the farm. when i can pull the truck on the levee and try and shoot them so they fall in the bed. I put my limit at 10 snows a day for the rest of my life with rare exceptions being getting them off farmers fields so i can maintain access. But still nothing gets me pumped like several thousand screaming snows coming head on at you.
  12. LOL, You and I have had that experiance but for those who havent you have to admit its something to see. My layout was brushed out in goose poop a few times FROM ABOVE lmao.

  15. 16. I doubt it Phil; with politicians in office who have no understanding of firearms and wanting to ban them. People said they wont go after sporting or hunting guns but her new bill does exactly that. Im betting these conversations are far from over. But people need ot keep it civil and clean.
  17. For all those who said they wouldnt go after hunting rifles lets look at Diane Feinsteins bill propsal, just a few of the bullet points 1. banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” 2. decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon So by her standards my TC would now be an "assault rifle" I have a thumbhole stock on it. a bipod a scope and iron sights plus a sling. 3 cosmetic features plus a thumbhole on a single shot breach loading weapon... SORRY but it is a pure hunting rifle that would now fall under her deffinition of a assault rifle.
  18. Mh, here is a few tips. Get a plot map for areas you hunt, then get a topo map as well. Go out and scout the areas find which way fields run off and which way the current flow in the timber is. When it rains find the low points where the run-off goes. DO NOT hunt it the day of the rain but wait 2 days. The reason is you want all the acorns and other food to make it to the newly flooded area. You get in on day 2 and 3 and it is nothing short of mass murder. I have one spot on the farm down south that all the rice, corn and timber drains but it takes 1.25 inches of rain to make it happen and when it does ill do anything to be there on day 3 by day 5 its ate out.
  19. Neat stuff, but unless it can be submerged for long periods of time not sure of the cloathing use. Im thinking that is there ultimate goal.
  20. I do a lot of trolling from my boat its a 2012TRACKERPro Team™ 190 TX w/ 90 ELPT OptiMax http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/specs.cfm?boat=3407 It is a great handling and very comfortable boat to drive all day and im 6'4''. It handles rough water very well and tops out by myself with gear at right at 47mph second person 45mph. Very manuverable boat and with the locking compartments i dont stress gear theft. one of the best boats ive owned.
  21. Chris you are 100% spot on with that observation. When I hunt the corn fields it isnt even worth getting there till 3pm to set-up and then you are normall limited on Greenheads by 4;15. and unless its a freeze out forget it they are dabbling. The exception is when they are migrating back north if you find a field with Snows in it they will be in it as well but by then season on ducks is over but still fun to watch thousands of ducks piling in while your snow hunting.
  22. Just wait till summer J-doc, if we dont get rain there will be many wrecks and possibly an impalement or two. Lakes getting sporty for certain. But dang if i havent found some great walley spots and learned alot about what to look for for them from now on. Checking my shallow water spots now that the lakes below them has shown me well taught me alot.
  23. VERY VERY NICE.. 1 more week here and im done
  24. Oh there is without a doubt a lot of new gun owners out there. I have seen people buying guns and not knowing anything more than its a gun. Now if someone was really smart and had about 50 acres they would build a Trap, Skeet, Sportingclays and rifle pistol range and start cashing in on all these new gun owners and old ones.
  25. Wayne let me try to explain what you do not understand. If we have shrinks who can report people they feel are to dangerous to have guns then what is next, to dangerous to drive, possible child abusers or maybe robbers or whatever else the goverment starts labeling people as. Say someone is goes to one to help with grief because a drunk killed his family and expresses views that he wishes the person was dead or someone whould kill him. Words spoken in anger and greif yet now the shrink reports it and the man cannot own a gun. I see this as a stepping tool for goverment to have doctors and even possibly lawyers to be compelled to become snitches on clients. Now lets take it to Kids with ADHD ADD or you name it. Goverment needs to stay out people private lives and privacy. You ever hear of the Spanish Inquisition or Salem Witch Trials. to me the idea of shrinks saying who gets to do what is just as bad as those.
