The Dam... If you havent scouted or know Beaver you may not want to hunt it until you do. AR Laws says no discharge of a firearm within 150 yards of a residance or 100 feet of the center line of a road. I have seen both tickets written to people who dont know where houses are on the lake or roads. Next thing to think about is 3 to 6 inches of rain we might get which will put a lot of debris in the lake as well as Beaver being very dangerous in bad weather. The birds typicaly in bad weather crawl up in people yards making them difficult at best to hunt in weather. Not knowing the lake I suggest you make some scouting trips to it on better weather days to familiarize yourself with it. If your dead set on trying though you might find a few at point 1 or 2 but if you are at the launch and the flock on the campground is 100+ birds forget it as they came off the points to the protection of the camp ground. Trust me i have got grey hairs from those birds doing that.

Jeb I go to both HLS BV is geared toward Bow hunting and a great selection and Nick has always got stuff in when i asked so no complaints on that, I just wish they stocked the stuff and carried stuff for gun hunters from ammo to decoys and clothing. I think what limits them is size of stores or they would. I hope they grow and expand a little more to hunting in time. I would far rather spend my money in a store dedicated to hunting and fishing than one thats more general outdoors and clothing.

I live three blocks from HLS and will spend more time there than at Cabelas, If they stocked hunting gear I would probably spend more money there as well.

Seen many in my life but the worse were always people who had no local knowledge trying to get out Sebastian and Jupiter inlets on outgoing tides with onshore winds. Worse of those was some people who obviously were first time boaters with a 16 foot ranger that tried to idle out the inlet and found that the 5 ft rollers were to much and they in turn put the power to a wave and caught it sideways forcing them into the rocks. Boat sank fast!!! Had another group watch myself and a few other boats punch the waves to get out, they must have thought we could do it so could they and they ended up on the rocks. I came to the firm conviction local knowledge of the dangers of where you fish is a life saver and unless you know those waters never go where it appears might be dangerous and when in doubt slow down to a safe speed.

Ok Justin but what about someone like me... All test came back I shouldnt have had a heart attack! Yet it was not until the nuclear stress test was it discovered that I had blockages in the small arteries of my heart and that was due most likely to heriditary heart issues. But here is the kicker I never knew my family had a history of early heart problems as most my grandparents and family lived well into their 80's only my mothers father died early of a heart attack and back then it was diagnoised only as heart failure they did not have the technology back then to say why. I eat healthy, get plenty of exersize yearly check ups ( just had one not 3 weeks prior to theheart attack) and have had no other medical conditions, even smoking was ruled out as a cause in my case. So what about others like me then? It is impossible to prevent or even forsee every possible condition and situation. I will go back to this 17.00 for a asprin was just one charge on my hosp bill. It is the COST of medical due to lawsuits and paperwork that has the prices so high. We could have the best care in the world and lowest cost if instead of mandating healthcare by law/tax to all of us would instead institute laws to protect doctors from lawsuits and require fair price laws IE Gouging laws. Here is an example. Overnight in hospital with no monitor on and no nurses checking on me was 2,853.27$ A night in a very nice motel room at most is 165.00 a bottle of asprin is 7.00 for 100 count yet hospital 1 pill was 17.00 or 1,700.00 a bottle... Now tell me why that night and pill should have been any more than $182.00? lets tack on a doctors visit that night before bed of 45 typical existing patient price and dinner of 12.00 just to be fair and im still only at $239.00 for a nights stay! Insurance pays 80% of that I pay 20% I think most people could afford that even without insurance. We need healthcare reform true reform not a tax and not a forced insurance or someone telling us to be healthy or die. We need medical care pricing reform and medical professional protection to the doctors and staff and that is the true solution.

Management Ideas?

Dredge the river from the dam site to Parker Bend add rock dams allowing for passing up and downstream of fish every 200 yards, a minimum flow regulation would be nice but i too doubt it will happen. Also a pure Catch and Release area from Parker bend to the dam WITH artificial fly only regs in place. The area could if managed and set up right be another Taney. -
Just recieved a letter that ARBCBS will be dropping many hospitals and doctors from it. They says its because they want more money and i am sure they do with the passing of O-Care and the tons of paperwork it will generate and the need for staff to push it. Sucks because it is looking like I will have to be searching for new docs! Goverment is NEVER the solution its is however ALWAYS the problem.

The heaviest rain is NE of these storms, if it continues to shift westerly like it has been then there is a good chance we will get a fair amount of rain. Last reports I heard were 12 to 16 in LA and 2 to 4 by the time it got here. Drought buster I doubt as dry as the land is and as fast as its moving as it will run off more than soak in. We need a storm that parks over us a few days with light constant rain to soak in to the land. I think it will cause some flash flooding in the areas and raise lake levels a couple feet from run off. I have been seeing more and more tree damage to houses the last few weeks the arbourist are attributing to drought killing tree's/ tree branchs when high winds happen, the other thing is moles undermining trees. Never thought of Moles causing or attributing to it but one arbourist i spoke to said he has seen more and more of them around tree bases trying to dig in moiste soil undermining the root balls and when rain happens causing trees to lean more which can lead to them falling. My hope would be it last 3 to 4 days of nice light rain but from past experiance these things like to dump alot in a short amount of time.

Forage wise I have seen plenty of minnows and shad in the white and decent amounts of scuds and sculpin. It needs habitat improvement in a major way and a constant flow would help a great deal as would greater enforcement. They stock a lot of fish in there yet seems they vanish into thin air or more to the truth vanish into cars and trucks. -
who been feeding the cows citrus?

Its almost over Bill, the wakes and skis will soon be gone and the lake will return to the fishermen as most people do not like cold water.

I see poaching violations as steeling from my grandkids and will gladly make the call. Some may look at game violations as trivial or no big deal, but to me they are no diffrent than any other crime and need to be dealt with.

When Fishing/hiking, Do You Carry A Handgun?
Feathers and Fins replied to rfd515's topic in General Angling Discussion
I was staying out of it but you Might want to check that before guessing. FL maintains one of the best statistic data bases for this and here is theres There are other stats out there is you want to look them up. Also stats show CCW holders less likely to commit a crime than non-ccw holders Texas has those facts pretty well documented. -
Bass, Its going to be an interesting next few weeks, I just looked at the long range weather and the lake shoudl be cooling off more. I actually expect a topwater bite to start around mid to late sept this year if it keeps cooling. The shad should be easy to find as well on the mud flats where any creek is comming in.

Bass if your out next weekend ignore me I will have guns and bows on the boat lol.
