  1. One question. Why are there no Managed Waterfowl Areas in the South western part ofthe state. These would benifit hunters, fishermen and many other user groups.
  2. You can catch them on Beaver I know many guys that go to Holiday Island late afternoon to get them then to Beaver for the night striper bite, The other option is to find lighted docks or around marinas and get shad early evening then go to the dam area/indian creek area for the night fishing. The best solution if possible is to have large brood minows and bluegill handy while waiting for shad to rise to the light. You almost must have a good fish finder to set-up over the shad to get them at night. Another option is chicken liver, stripers love it and you may also get a big cat. Make sure to keep it in the range the stripers are at NOT on the bottom.
  3. I have not been out in awhile to see myself what its like in that area however i would be watching the wind anchor shallow 20 fow and drift shad back into 40fow with ballons if possible. If that is not an option than anchor in 45 fow fishing 30 to 40 fow.
  4. This time of year stripers are in that area and I would not be suprised if you can catch more there. Stripers are rock bass after all, if its windy that area can get rough fast. The ramp however is very close so it would be a quick run.
  5. Try Points 3 area the slope is gentle and there are a couple of humps out by the deep water, I would guess the stripers and walleye could be caught there readily, further back into point 3s cove you could do well on crappie and walleye in the trees. Good luck.
  6. Looks like we might be in a long term drought for Beaver. I have been doing a little research on where the lake might be around October through next April. Now in doing this I took into account we had a mild winter and pretty much no shad kill so I am going to give a few suggestions to those searching for stripers this fall. #1 The mud flats in Prairie Creek Mid september to the end of Feb, #2 The channel between 12 bridge and the first Island Dec through May, ( Durring duck season give the guys hunting a wide birth they will be on the island also watch for deer that may be pushed off the island ) #3 Flats in front of Beaver Shores #4 Deep holes on the North Side of sand bars from Horshoe Bend to Hickory Creek. Find the 6 to 8 inch shad and you should find the stripers, I actually expect to see some larger 20+ pound stripers being caught more often if conditions continue simply becaust they will be forced into smaller confined areas.
  7. I see the knot talk al the time and will add this, Krazy Glue and problems are solved. 1 drop wait a few seconds and the issue is solved.
  8. Verizon works best for me, there are a couple spots you loose it but very few, 24/7 on call is not fun, You need to talk to the boss about times you may not be in cell range, Bosses tend to think that cells are a great leash when in fact people still need private time. You should discuss this with him.
  9. WOW, That looks like a sunshine but you are in the wrong part of the country for those, so i have to go with striper.
  10. Ive used Seagar for years and love it. Yozuri is also a good line but side by side i prefered the Seagar. I am assuming you are trolling crank baits and if that is the case pure mono will work just as well at speeds from 1.5 on up but for slow speeds then I would go with the Floro. Everyone is diffrent in which line they use so try several and see which you prefer. I do suggest staying clear of the cheaper lines as you do get what you pay for. Now if you are wanting to troll plus be able to use the same rod and reel for jigging 12lb floro is my standard size for just about everything, keep an eye on it for abrassions and the knot and you will be a happy camper err fisherman.
  11. 2 places to look, 1. is the flat between 12 ramp and the first island. the flat is on the west side of the island, there are a lot of walleye on it but you have to weed through lots of shorts remember beaver is 18'' size limit. Troll shad raps and bounce the bottom. leave ALL WORMS HOME the area is infested with blugill right now on the very small size. 2. long points from Rambo to Prairie creek, those you can worm harness or troll.
  12. Might be time for purely night fishing Bill, man i thought 8am was early for wakers but 6 is just to the point my boat will stay in its comfy room until water temps drop.
  13. Pretty much sounds like it, and a big part of the reason I doubt this will ever happen. People will say we are already paying to use the resource and as part of the TAX it pays for officers to enforce the laws and protect the resource. Again comming back to the manpower to enforce the laws. Some states also require people using state lands and managed areas to pay a fee in a drop box prior to entering the land. I have a hunting and fishing license but still have to pay to use corps boat launches or parks. But can still launch on private or public for free. Institute the same policy at State owned facilities or ramps as a maintenance fee.
  14. Term limits were part of my conversation last night, many people feel not only the enviroment but so many other things are getting the shaft from politicians who make it a career, they loose sight of why they got elected and by whom. For every politician they have a staff that is very large even if not directly on their payroll they have others they pay to do research polls and so on. If we could get a handle on the politicians I BELEIVE WE WOULD QUICKLY FIND MORE THAN ENOUGH FUNDS for so many things that need attention. I hate getting to politics but if this has a chance at all we will be dealing with them at some point. How could this be presented and to a politician that can be trusted to help write the law to ensure the money and manpower will only be for this?
  15. Get an landscaper ( real one not jackleg ) to come PH test the land and let them treat it between now and next spring. Then have them SOD it next spring. That is the best and easiest way to do it and most cost effective in the long run.
  16. I talked about this with some friends at dinner last night just to see where they would be, non-hunters, non-fishers and a couple that could hunt and fish when they had time. They were 100% against the idea! they do float and enjoy using the waters when they have time. I tried to express the best I could that it would benifit the streams and them. and was goven the Reagan Line NO NEW TAXES! People are tired of user fee's this and taxes this. I doubt this would have a prayer in the world, there were 10 people there last night and all of them were strongly opposed to it, one an attourney was laughing saying " so you want to make goverment even bigger when their are already goverment agencies that are suppose to be doing what you propose ". That comment kinda sunk it home with me that it is not the time for this. Idea and concept is good but John Q Public wont support it and Mike was right its just growing goverment again.
  17. Just a thought but, How can any fee be put on a floatable river aka navigatable waterway. There may well be a legal issue with it we havent thought of.
  18. Maybe we need to just figure out a place once a month for all of us to meet up for a dinner that is also family friendly and exchange tips and tie flies etc.
  19. Deer season is great pick an island shoot a deer and then catch a few fish after.
  20. I honestly dont know where to start. Fly = San Juan Worm, Mulberry, ant, knat, wolley Bait, I guess my favorite is to mix up Cornmeal, Floor, Anis, wheat bread and dog food(dry) add water until it is thick paste. Beware though if lots of catfish are in the area dont use the dog food or you will be catching more cats than carp.
  21. I do not think we will get the same service we get at HLS, box stores dont have the personal feel or pay near the attention to the anglers. Im sure Cabelas will carry the hunting stuff I need but im doubtful they will have the gear that works best around here. But more is I like to be able to sit around and talk to the guys at HLS employee's owners and other anglers. If I had one suggestion to HLS it would be to put in a table and sit down area in the rogers store like in the BV store. Its nice to be able to sit down and talk outdoors. I have to give them credit though the archery shop i didnt think would do good but i have a hard time not finding what i need and when i wanted some broadheads Nick had them in fast.
  22. lol, I have them named, There was 4 ross 3 snows and 1blue that live at lake atlanta, they bred this year and last count was 18.
  23. Whats wrong with you people? Has he never haved coonass cuisine? Sorry but I love my freshwater lobster. cooked though
  24. Drove past it yesterday, looks like about another 3 to 5 days on the roof to be completed and still doing some exterior cosmetics but its looking like a Cabelas now. I cant make opening weekend there are stripers and geese that will need to be relocated to my BBQ. If you know where any geese are remember I have a great relocation program for them
  25. http://www.jamesmskipper.us/MonteNe/MonteNe4.html Found this site and thought it was pretty neat, i doubt she will go this low but I would love to see it if the lake ever does.
