  1. Building on Mike just said you can also thread your hook 3/4 of the way in the worm coming out midpoint between the tip of the tail and the clitellum this will prevent most fish from touching the worm without getting the hook in them, just pull the worm over the eye of the hook and up the line. I use spinning reels for pulling crawler harness systems for the simple reason when I see a tap tap I can flip the bail giving instant slack which has put a few more eyes in the boat. If you hit an area that it happens frequently you may want to drop a single hook down with a piece of crawler and see if its bluegill if it is leave the area ( the only exception to this is spring, then I would catch 3 or four in the 2 to 4 inch range and pin them on a hook ) My biggest walleye on beaver 13.4 came from that trick, spring walleye and any type of perch in the area seems to be the key for monster eyes.
  2. Rapid fire tap tap tap is typically bluegill or more in fact several hitting the worm. The hard hit I have found to be a few things A. fish hitting the beads/spinner combo B. Catfish sucking and spitting hard C. A simple snag or rock The best way to find out is when you see that take the boat out of gear and drop the rod back only for a few seconds but long enough to let it come back... Always check a bait after as well.
  3. 87 and my sons butt as he could attest HAD A BULLSEYE on it that said Hit in case of stupid. I fixed stupid and today I have a smart son that only makes young adult mistakes but learns from them.
  4. Oh what the heck... This is what happens when you get bit
  5. The absolute biggest pet peeve I have as far as rude goes is people using other peoples handicap sticker cars to get close parking. A few years back I watched a pair of teenagers pull up in a Handicap car with the wheelchair rack. I flagged down an officer who waited for them and gave them not only the citation but the butt chewing the deserved and to the applaud of several others. His first statement was not ( Is this car ) But SIT RIGHT HERE while I explain to you why what you did was wrong AND YOU WILL LISTEN! (Caps is where he raised his voice)
  6. Hog he would have been wrong for just using the word poisonous when talking about a snakes bite. I would expect a biology teacher to know better. As to more "Venomous" absolutely not but their musk is worse than a copperheads for certain.
  7. I know where they have placed a bunch more on Beaver and I keep seeing a Toon going out at night with brush and he comes back with none. A great bass brush is Holly Bushes ( they only take 1 block and last for about 7 years ) Crappie and Walleye seem to prefer a set of three cedars or Oak's it appears. But I have no idea of the depth those might or might not be set in.
  8. Well someone just got some fresh raw honey, maple and molasses 3 of the key ingredients in my BBQ sauce. Marty we shall play swap the sauce this year.
  9. Got the same problem on Beaver they just keep appearing and I have no idea how, must be a midnight ninja operation them darn ninjas lol
  10. Do any of you guys take the time to go out and set brush piles and create structure?
  11. Fish24/7 I had that problem with my rigs and found the solution was the dropper loop it gives me the ability to feel the most slight tap and better yet see it on the tip of the rod even if they grab it and swim forward ( I use 4ft leaders ) the drag from the bow in the line puts enough twitch in the tip I know something has happened and that's when swing forward softly until firm contact, it also gives me the time to drop the rod back for a pause and strike.
  12. Randy that is Basic "man made reservoir 101" Shame on you for pointing it out lol
  13. October is probably my favorite month for the fly pole on stripers and its no secret I love doing it in Prairie Creek and Avoca. Its not only addictive it can be a pure illness.
  14. Ive said it before I will say it again..... VIDEO IT.... SEND IT TO MDC, AGFC whomever has the ticket book for the area... I am so tempted to make a facebook page just for it. Enough of the same people and the LEO's will be forced to act. It may be the only way to make the lakes safe is by humiliating people and getting LE to act before the media gets ahold of it with proof that LE has been made aware of some of these people repeatedly.
  15. Interesting and will catch a Ton for sure.... but will it catch fish is the answer? I would bet they hit it out of instinct but will it out do other baits of its types I don't know so ill hold off judgment as well.
  16. Bingo! Pay me Preacher. . . I gave info like that just as I do for Beaver Lake a couple times and now catching fish let alone seeing them is much more difficult! But worse was seeing the trash left on the stream, I can handle some pressure but the areas I gave did not have the trash for years before and then did. When I go to a hard to reach stream its not so much for the fish but the beauty and solitude and to see it trashed up hurts. Like Hunting spot, a precious beautiful unspoiled stream is not something people will give up easily and without a great deal of trust to the person they are giving it to. Its something that should be earned either by gaining the trust of people or finding it yourself it will mean more then. And though you might trust the person who is to say he wont bring a friend that is not as trustworthy.
  17. You will get them you are just going after them with a difficult method which I have to commend you for, few try for the trolled fish when live baiting is so much easier. Next thing I know you will be trying to get how to catch them with a fly pole.... psst secret is there is a ducky on this site that makes a very special fly that works GREAT on them and its the only fly you need to do it and it works trolled as well.
  18. That is more than the typical response I have had from "most" of them. They honestly do not understand how much damage they are doing to their own business when they act like that. I will say I have talked to Rich Mikuska a couple times and he has been good about info at the dock. What really gets me is the very predictable habits of the Stripers in the lake. I can and have told people where and when they will be in an area of the lake It is no secret! Depth can vary of course but when you set out 8 to 10 rods at different depths its pretty easy to figure depth out and for bait well we see the balloons we know its shad. HELLO. So there is no reason not to be helpful. Then again I saw a video on Youtube that said Beaver Lake and there is no way in H E Double Hockey Sticks it was on Beaver Lake. The Arkansas River maybe but no way Beaver. Just ignore the guides and attitudes as it really only hurts them in the long run. If they helped people more they would get more word of mouth business. But bad attitudes gets post like this on the net. I wonder how much business Guides like J.T. and Babler received from their honesty and people on the net referring them? BILL Whats you wild guess?

  21. Right there with ya Marty, bunch of the years first canning sitting waiting for me to hear the ping. I do love this time of year, because I am thinking of winter when everyone is wishing they had home grown veggies and salsa and all I have to do is pop the top.
  22. We are finally getting our Maters ripe and picked a hand full well over a pound last night and they were juicy as they came. Going to make up a ton of Banana Pepper sauce today we are picking on average of 20 every 3 days at this point. Okra finally got picked and I hear gumbo being discussed Its been a great season so far but we need warm weather for the Mellons.
  23. Marty, use a string and light weight to start bending them downward
  24. I stopped counting and even have turned trusted friends on to it with the promise they release it unharmed and keep it a secret.
