When you walk through life people touch you in ways you can express but dogs touch your soul in a way beyond explanation. I did this picture awhile back and when I saw it to me it captured my idea of what Heaven would look like and made me stop and think of all those who came before me and sometimes in the early morning mist I can picture them walking with their dog in the marsh. Sometimes it is just good to imagine

Yes I did as you threatened to scalp numbers lol.

Had those two paragraphs been in your original post and if they are true then this guide should NOT have charged you for his pleasure trip. Those statements to me say he was out there to fish for himself and you paid for the trip. Not knowing a dock is out of water as a guide is inexcusable unless they pulled it the day before. Having a client back the trailer down WTH is that. This "guide" should have refunded you 100% he was not prepared not up to date and was more interested in his pleasure fishing then doing his job. based off the above paragraphs. I no longer guide but still take people out and show them how to fish the lake, I still stress out every-time until we get a fish on the boat and I try teaching all day long from sonar tips to why im fishing a bait and why I change out to even why im on a certain spot or speed. A guide should be a little bit of a Teacher, Friend, comedian, historian and cook. Guides cant make fish bite but if they can be a teacher and have you enjoy even the toughest bites even no bite days then they did their job. But to use your money to pay for their pleasure trip is as bad as it gets.

Wrench there are several guys doing this and in the states they are in it is 100% Legal and the officers admit to it the officers try to find a reason to give him a hassle when he brings up the word "Insight the public" These officer should have made the contact as they had to for the call there was no crime committed and this stop lasted to long the big mouth officer was a problem, he if anything was in sighting the situation, the person making the video got what he wanted an officer with a big mouth in all respects violating his civil rights by unlawful detention. The best of them so far was done by Warren out in California when he ran in to and officer with a cooler AR then him. When I first saw these videos popping up I shook my head at them but after a while the video makers were getting some pretty neat response by officers and community so they made a positive impact. If I saw a guy walking down the road with a holstered weapon or a slung weapon I probably wouldn't care. If I saw one carrying in the active fire position you bet I would make the call to 911.

How Would You Survive This Storm?
Feathers and Fins replied to hank franklin's topic in General Angling Discussion
Hank something that was drilled in to me and I will live and die by is this. 1st always tell someone of your trip plans and when you will be out if you don't check in by ( x ) time notify authorities of my trip plans so they can find me. 2nd is when you get in trouble STAY PUT! If you do number 1 then number 2 will insure you can be found. Granted they might not be able to get to you right away but at least they know and when they can get there they will. Surviving the elements if prepared as they are in this situation wont be the most pleasant but is very doable. -
Flyman here is my take. As a fisherman you should have known condition right now are extremely tough so expectations to catch a fish are low. However that said he did say this is his favorite time of year and that lends to the clients idea it should be a productive trip, maybe not the smartest thing for him to say given these conditions. Now for a guide to be fishing with clients on board is a hard call, I would not tolerate it if we were not catching fish and would call it very unprofessional. If we were catching fish I would certainly request they participate but it should be anglers request not something he should do until you have fish in the boat and only after being asked by the client his #1 job is to get you NOT HIMSELF on fish. Also he should have been communicating better with you and asking if you wished to try for other species. As to the refund / free trip / reduced fee. He does have a business to run and cost to cover from the information you provided he should have in my opinion given you a reduced fee perhaps just charged you for his cost for the day or half price. I base that on I believe he mislead you that fishing this time of year was his favorite and by his fishing when he should have been doing everything to be sure you caught something. This is based off your side of the story and not knowing his. If he comes on here and replies with a different version then I may change my mind.

Like I told Joe, They are guppies to me unless its a Bronze back I don't get excited about the green critters. My only concern when it gets up that high is limb lines seem to breed heavily on them.

Welcome to the forum. Love seeing members in it growing.

Its in the brush now Quill and I am loving it. That certainly gets the walleye where I want them and will make crappie fishing outstanding.

No secret I don't like Pro-ball unless my steelers are in the Superbowl. But there is one other time I like it and that is when it is throwback to good ole fashion bad weather snow, ice and hell freezing over. Im looking forward to it. Packers win though.

How Would You Survive This Storm?
Feathers and Fins replied to hank franklin's topic in General Angling Discussion
Ok Hank then in that case here is what I would do. 1st Build a lean tube barricade enforcing the wind side to shelter from is making the barricade in a U shape so sides are protected as well if possible expand the tube si it is at least 8ft tall in a pyramid much like a teepee. Between this and the tent they will sheltered from the wind and rain. Fire could be placed in front and the radiational heating will keep them warm and allow smoke to exit the top. This will take about 1 to 4 hours to build depending on availability of wood or tools they have on hand. Hope they have a small shovel as I carry one at all times and most should. then before evening falls bury the hottest coals under the tend and cover with 18'' of dirt ( yes Jeremiah Johnson Movie but I did it in scouts to see if it worked and it does. Water shouldn't be an issue with all the snow and being on the river but should be melted I assume again they were campers so should have some basic supplies for cooking and can boil water for safety. Food they will need to ration but they could also flip rocks for a short time along the river and find crayfish for food. I have also seen a lot of wild turnip this year so there may be some around as well. All in all stay calm stay put and ride it out for a couple days. -

If this is true call 911 for rescue. If this was 1800's they would simply gather more wood and sit tight for a couple days rationing food a little. It amazes me how few people in todays time have no idea how to deal with elements and survive if all things go primitive. -
1137 will go over the road if my math is correct. 1135 is max it will hold. Gates typically have been opened at 1128.00 and im betting they get opened soon. Look at this weeks forecast it could happen if we have a lot of run-off from snow and rains.

We had so much fun with this last year I thought it was well worth doing again this year. Right now we are at 1,120.98 January the 5th 2014. What is your predictions for her and after you give your prediction and no scalping someone by less than a foot. ( THIS MEANS YOU DOC )! Now let the bad mouthing, teasing and harassment of all begin. My prediction is 1,128.00 I will let someone else start the harassing though I do have a pair of targets in mind one who stripps and rides a bow in fridged weather and the other had a special DI- Lure in the boat at the time the other stripped.

Looks Like Winter Has Arrived
Feathers and Fins replied to Ham's topic in General Angling Discussion
4'' in rogers and temp showing 14 with 12mph wind. On a bright note maybe not so many ticks, chiggers and skeeters this year. -
If this helps for you guys, this is how I do it on Beaver Lake. It is applicable to anyplace I hunt. #1. Find out the legal distance required to be from a Home, Business, Road or Occupied structure. .( For instance in Arkansas the legal distance is 150 yards from a residence with a gun or 50 yards with a bow ) #2. Find out the legal requirements for where you hunt such as Private, State or Public Property. .( If you are on Private property you must have permission ) #3. If there is a legal requirement for distance use google earth to map the area and draw out using the path tool the legal range. Then go verify it with a range finder this satisfies ( due diligence ) #4. Have on you or at your access the legal requirements by the City, County, State and even Federal agency if any on you so if you are contacted you can prove your legal right to be there. Now here is how the information works. Using Beaver Lake again as an example. It is Army Corps Property and Hunting is allowed on it during legal season. It is in Arkansas and thus falls under AGFC guidelines for distance In this lakes case I do not use a house for my 150 yard rule I use the Army Corps Line plus 150 yards if a house is nearby . By doing this there cannot be any doubt of legal distance. When contact I have presented the officer with the legal documentation and map. Typically they are cordial and just following up on the call. That typically protects you as the legal resource user. I am however in the future going to request the office to notify the caller as to the legal activity and to inform them any further calls will result in me filing a hunter harassment complaint. Maybe it’s time to for lake users to be proactive instead of just putting up with these people.
-
Mike it wont matter if we inform them I have done it several times. I guess maybe getting together with LEO, ACE and State DNR would be a step go from there to see how to deal with these property owners to have the authorities inform them of the law and penalty for them breaking it. I have had run-ins with dock owners while fishing and even just relaxing in a cove. Something needs to be done about this issue and until the authorities start punishing the land owners it will continue. I really am at the point I will force the issue to get the citation written if possible. I swear I see one more dock owner yelling at a dad with his kids in a boat fishing near a dock I don't know what I will do.
-
Here Duane Chapter 578 Miscellaneous Offenses Section 578.151 Unlike Arkansas Missouri Hunting/fishing is not currently a constitutional right. I don't have the specific laws for lower taney as I don't hunt it.
-
Michael, I have had similar situations arise on Beaver. I had a guy threaten to call the Police. I told him go right ahead I will sit right here and when they show up I will then have then issue you a citation for Hunter Harassment and as I have seen you fishing the lake I know you have a license and that citation WILL as mandated by law cause you to loose your license. Even had a lady with him video it. I get sick and tired of people who just because they live near the water think they own it and can run or intimidate people from using it. I have all my hunting spots marked off on Google Earth for range from spot to house( straight line ) and carry it with me at all times, I carry the hunter harassment law with me as well as a copy of the Constitution of the state and all applicable laws and or city / county ordinances. Pain in the butt to get all the info and completely unneeded if Law Enforcement would tell the home-owner the first time they are legal and if they call again forcing them to respond and contact the hunters they will issue the citation to home-owner for hunter harassment. To me these home-owners need to be politely informed the first time of the laws to insure no further contact is needed and then after that written up for it. I would also like to see on ACE property the revocation of doc permits for a violation. If a person is harassing someone on ACE property then remove their privileges because those docks are not a right but a privilege and to use one to run out and screaming at lake users should immediately have that privilege removed. Sorry soar subject with me.

Duck Hunting Taney 30 Dec - 03 Jan
Feathers and Fins replied to Flatbottom Boy's topic in Migratory Birds
Very nice -
APPROVED..... I was going to call you today and lost your number when I got the new phone. I found a ton of geese and ducks in your zone but didn't have gun to make them die. Also found almost huntable numbers of snows, still shy of 50k but getting close to it.
-
I had to wrestle it back from a very feisty Striper probably 20lb class, and seen a probable 50lb flathead, Love watching smallies chase it they are so cute.
-
If they are out you know why, I may have to run over tomorrow and do a little looky seeing.
