  1. If the trout parks wanted to make the anglers trophy hunting happy have them stock Taimen's in there. I would love to see a guy with 4 to 6pnd trying to snag one of them then. It would be super obvious to rangers fast who the trouble making snaggers were. Heck stock them in Taney while we are at it and then we could talk true monsters trophy trout.
  2. Thanks Guys, I knew more about the bite and the treatment then my doctor. Funny thing is I called a couple friends that are scientist specializing in toxins to verify my treatment diagnoisis before going to the doctor and all I got from them is ( Send pictures, Please have blood work done so we can anylize it, Have a biopsy done for us etc ) What wonderful friends I have lol. Not like I would request the same thing if it wasnt me though. Its my second go around with a bite from one and just will take a few days before I can walk much it got me right below the calf just above the ankle so not a fun places for walking.
  3. A topic not often discussed about our local Lake is where to eat! I thought I would fire off a list of places that are NOT chain stores and are family owned in and around Beaver lake. My wife and I love going out to the local eateries in the downtown area as they are far off restaurant row. I like the idea they are not a chain and the atmosphere is more laid back and relaxed and the food is much better quality. #1. Hunan Chinese Restaurant 509 S 8th St, Rogers, AR 72756 It’s not a Buffet and the foods great, a true sit down restaurant where you can relax and enjoy a meal. Rumor is the owner is a fisherman and very friendly. Actually it’s this forums own WC. #2. Lucy's Diner 511 W Walnut St · Rogers, It reminds me of a throwback to the 1950’s food is excellent and just a laid back place. #3. Chicago Dog 121 W Elm St Rogers (479) 636-3647 The name says it all HOT DOGS, and Ice Cream another throwback reminder to the 50’s and 60’ with excellent food #4 Rail A Pizza Co 218 S 1st St · Rogers · (479) 633-8808 This is the Bain of my life. I have had Pizza from NY, CHI, FL, CALI, you name it I think I have tried it. But none beat the rail, Everything is fresh and you don’t dare order extra anything on the Pizza. The wings are good and the cheesy bread is awesome. But of great surprise is the desert. Apple pie made in cheesy bread doe smothered in a sugar cinnamon toping. #5 Sam's Old Time Hamburgers (479) 986-9191 120 E Locust St Roger Most have seen Sams as the drive out to the lake, The burgers are what made it famous and you better be hungry when you go they are what a burger should be. Those are some of the places in Rogers that are worth a stop off anytime not just when you are going out to the lake. They are far superior to the big chain restaurants’ on the Row by 540 and prices for what you get really blow them away. If anyone has other Mom and Pop owned places let us know. I am always looking to support the local dinners.
  4. Well the bugs as we all know are out and I got in an arguement with a Brown Recluse. My leg is killing me and im laid out for a few days. So thought I would put up a reminder to start spraying the house and yard before others get to visit the doctors ofice.
  5. Verison. I havent found but a couple spots I cant get signal. 1 being Roaring River and the other is Crane Creek. I really dont seem to mind that no one can get me when im there. My wife accuses my cell of not getting recesption on Beaver, Taney and TR. I think its called selective answering though.
  6. The biggest trout are present from August to early October when the Mullet run is on.. They are there year round but best when they are eating the snicker bars as we called them. Quill if you go its a cheap trip, I drove down a couple years ago and gas there and back was about 450.00 took all my own gear and stayed with a friend. But Hotels arnt bad and the license is cheap as well. I would say a guy could do a 4 day drive down and back with 2 days fishing for under 1200.00. There are plenty of places to pull off A1A and wade the indian river, Indian River drive there are a couple spots but not many. And the Jetty at Fort Pierce is a must. If i were to go I would go in July, And get 12 dozen jumbo shrimp and hit the fort pierce jetty. Snook are in full mating migration in the inlets and you can seriously stack them up. ( C&R Season ) Tarpon are more August bite. My favorite for sure bite on them was behind Mangrove Matties restruant just off the jetty. Bar tender kept you well fed and hydrated the tarpon fishermen kept people at the restraunt hydrating themselves
  7. Here ya go this gives him a couple spots.
  8. Man that entire area I have waded many times. Get off the dock and start wading the flats, What he needs to do is get about 2 dozen Medium or Jumbo shrimp and put them in a bait bucket with a 15 foot lead to it. Use a 7'6 spinning rod with 12lb test and a #4 circle hook under a popping cork or even funner is a 7'6'' spinner with 6lb on it and the same circle hook minus the popping cork. The second method what he wants to do is wade the flats he will get familar with seeing the grass ( darker ) and then the White ( sand pockets in the grass) Throw the free lined shrimp up current of the sand and let it drift in. He will catch more dang trout then you can imaging. Poping cork is another way same scenerio but twitch the rod tip so the cork pops. August and September he will want to add a 30lb leader of florocarbon and go from shrimp to Mullet or Greenies and try for tarpon. Now also when trouting he might get a redfish or two, NEVER let the bait hit the bottom or the sailcats will be all over it. While walking the flats never pass up tossing to docks especially right in front of them where the channel is for peoples boats to get in Snook love to lay in them. If the parents will take him to the Old Fort that place is great for both reds and trout. For bass the Savannahs are loaded but also full of gators so he needs adult supervision in there. Also if Mom and dad wont fish suggest a day at fort pierce south beach jetty. The area around the "T" spur on it is great for flounder and pompano the snook and tarpon will be out closer to the end. There really is just so many places to fish in that area it would blow your mind. I use to have a key to the mosquito impoundment access roads and loved hitting the culverts for big gator trout and snook that layed just outside of them waiting for the tide to start to fall as it did it flushed the bait out of the impoundments and the big fish went nuts.
  9. I have this site up almost all the time in my truck as im driving, Kinda a Safety issue as I dont like listening to the radio. But its even good if you are home or fishing on your phone. http://www.tornadovideos.net/pages/full_screen/ when you see all the flies errr scratch the car icons moving to one area it reminds me of flies all going to one place. Basically you know where the ummm ummm well you know what attracts flies. I watched it today and there was about 30flies around Dallas area.
  10. Quill here is a map of the area, I didnt take alot of time marking it but it will give you an idea. Fort Pierce Inlet ( redfish up to 40lbs,, snook to 50lbs,,, tarpon to 200lbs sharks from little to we need a bigger boat Brody. My PB, Redfish 38 lb, Snook, 42.5, Tarpon 178 shark 900lb ( Tarpon and Shark "tiger" were estimates) Bear Point ( Home of the world record gator trout ) Best for trout and redfish and snook. My PB Trout 9.5lb, Snook 22.8 Redfish 18lb Tarpon estmated 200lb Shark 150" spinner" Note the area on the barrier islands wet is mosquito impoundments they are overflowing at times with small tarpon year round up to 15lbs Taylor Creek Snook and Tarpon primarily My PB snook Estimated 50lb Tarpon 95lb Saint Lucie spillway, Snook Tarpon and Bullsharks. My PB Snook 22lb tarpon 200 estimate Bullshark 500 estimated. Club Med Snook and Tarpon, My pb Snook 20lb Tarpon 80lb Roosevelt Bridge ( all species of snook here ) Tarpon, shark and grouper"jewfish" My PB Snook 32 lb tarpon 123 estimated Bull shark 300lb estimated Jew fish 300LB estimated. 10 CENT BRIDGE same as roosevelt bridge Saint lucei inlet same as fort peirce Nuclear plant in the river use to be one of the best places for tarpon you could it seemed many days walk accross the water on their backs and never get wet. Now its closed but you can still fish near it and pick off tarpon well into the 200 class. There are countless places to go in that area and one of the places a guy could go with no guide a bucket of shrimp and catch lord only knows what. Anyone who goes should stop in to THE SNOOK NOOK in Jensen Beach and talk to them they will put you on fish fast.
  11. Quill, I have never had one as they are protected. The old timers down there said they were the best eating fish they had ever had. I use to fish for them off the Fort Pierce Jetty and around the fenders under the bridges, They dont fight per-say but more like hooking up to a VW Bug, when they get over 100pnds the smaller ones will put up a good fight though. My best was an estimated 350 to 375 caught at the outlit for the Saint Lucie Power Plant, I was targeting Permit and had a good 15lb permit on and This giant black thing appeared and with one opening of the mouth I watched the permit vanish. 30 minutes later we brought the figh to the boat and measured it and released. Just about all grouper are great eating and the best meat is their cheaks. Many people do not have a clue how good the snapper and grouper fishing is in the Indian River itself. Some of the largest redfish and sea trout are in it as well as large tarpon and my favorite "spinner sharks". I use to love watching newbies come down and start wading the flats with little 5 and 6 foot fishing stringers and the do their best impersonation of Jesus walking on water when a Nurse shark comes to take the fish on it. Or see a Manatee swim near and they fly out of water. Ive had many nice trout taken off my stringer from nurse sharks, spinner sharks and Bulls. My fish string was 12ft long and had a quick release clip on it just for sharks. That place is a real treasure of a place to fish.
  12. oJustin, there are so many places in PSL that sharks are around most the snow birds would move back to NY if they knew. One of my favorite places to go play with little bulls was White City Park nothing monsters 3 to 6 footers but that was going off memory probably 20 miles up river from the saint lucie inlet. And dont get me started on the House of Refuge and the Hammerheads that were around Fort Pierce North Bridge. Man I miss that place but not the Northerns Attitudes
  13. Squid show = Monsterquest... they do at least 2 to 3 squiders a season lol.. Everytime i see it i just think of calamari.
  14. I watched the show and was laughing so dang hard at the first segment where he was saying he was fishing in the Indian river in FRESH WATER... BULLLLLL He was fishing just West of the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart Florida ive fished it for Tarpon and Snook many days. At best its Brackish water not even close to fresh unles a major hurricane came in and flushed the Big O. But the cool thing about the Roosevelt is its one of the only places you can catch all species of snook. The Jewfish he caught was impressive and lives around the pilings of the old bridge and railroad trestle. Cool seeing my ols stopming grounds. Now had he gone a few miles more North and west he would have had a better shot at a Bull around Prima Vista Blvd and Port Saint Lousy Blvd, Basing the amount of Mullet around and the fact the tarpon he caught. Those Bulls heard the tarpon up to the Spillway near Port Saint Lucie Blvd and Ive seen many 10ftr's in there feasting on Tarpon. And where he was in the day fishing by the power plant I could show you exactly where on Google earth. BIG MUD CREEK to be exact, It use to be one of the top Tarpon spots in the world but 9-11 changed that when the sealed off the entrance to it. LOZ, I would bet the divers were seeing Spoonies. Ive seen 100lbs cats and doubtful they are attacking people unless they are noodling. Man that show had me laughing.
  15. Hodge they are heavy enough to throw them on a spinner with light line im sure, I had no problem firing them out on my fly rod. I dont Make them" but im begging Ducky to tie a bunch more" Im betting 2 and 4lb test line would work. For me I will stick to throwing them on the fly-rod, I was using my 7wt rod with 12lb Floro and a sinking tip. I told Ducky that i thought it was one of the bestfly patterns I have ever used, it a multy species killer and it is versatile enough to use as a streamer, crawler or a popping jig. The walleye are stacked up so if you find one there will likely be others with it.
  16. I had a conversation the other day with a friend of mine; he is a dedicated bass fisherman and always has been. He doesn’t even think about other types of fishing and looks down on all types of fishing other than bass fishing and its techniques. I told him I was thinking about going “Trolling” Later this week for striper and walleye. His response was that is cheating and requires no skill, just put bait out and drive a boat. I guess I will never stop being amazed at how misinformed so many people are about the different techniques of fishing and the skill involved in it. So I started to explain to him about trolling starting off with Saltwater Wahoo fishing “one of my favorite fish to troll for” I started off by telling him I trolled at 10 to 12 knots and his jaw hit the floor, he could not fathom a fish that could strike a lure at that speed. I explained they were one of the fastest fish in the world, but you had to have the skill to catch them. Explaining that you needed to know their migration pattern and the structure they preferred. How when you left the dock you would run out to 60ft of water and set-up a troll based on years of exploring the cost marking wrecks, reefs and just a rock anywhere from 60 to 300 ft of water. I had to explain to him it was no different than his beloved bass fishing where you had to spend the hours looking for structure and knowing the fish movements at all times of year. How you would set-up the troll based on that information. Then I had to explain to him the use of downriggers and lead-core lines and proper lure selections. His eyes were focused on ever word especially how you never stop the boat when hooked up or you would lose the fish. He went on to ask how that works in freshwater. I explained again, you need to know the migration habits, the bottom structure and the type of lure along with the down riggers, lead-core line and flat lines. He did not have a clue how much knowledge and skill was actually needed to Troll. He likened it to BASS fishing as its all he knew but said there sure seems like a lot more specialty gear needed. Its true serious trolling needs specialty gear and years of knowledge and plenty of GPS marks. Sure anyone can drop a bait or two behind a boat and get lucky but to be productive, you need to put in the hours of finding those structures and the research on fish migrations and habits throughout the year. You need to know the gear and when to use this lure or that lure and what times of day to use and do what. I often thing trolling might well be one of the most difficult types of fishing because you have to put it all together to be consistent. Then if not all of that was daunting enough you have to learn precise boat control. I have seen guys watch me pull stripers out of log jams and then try to go over them thinking they wont get snagged. Always makes me laugh to see it. But the years I’ve spent learning to judge distance to a target and its depth has taught me how to speed up a boat to lift a bait over that structure yet still present a bait to a fish where most wouldn’t dare. Trolling is an art in and of itself, it’s a method of fishing that done right can be highly affective, yet if done wrong equally frustrating. This is the time of year when Striper and Walleye trolling can easily outshine other types of fishing for them as they are on their migration routes. So give trolling a try and start learning a new type of fishing to put in your arsenal.
  17. For me Rooster Tail is Rooster Tail all others are just trying to be it. Ive caught lots of fish and many species on them.
  18. Looking good. Roofing structure is almost complete, So they should be putting the roof on soon. after that its all about interior and cosmetics.
  19. 1 plastic worms 2 Pop R 3 roostertail 4 small broke back rapalas 5 Fluke
  20. The Kentuckys will be suspended on Beaver by then and the Smallies will be down by the dam Water temp this morning at 6am was 68.5 by 11 when i left it was 73.4. Im betting the winner on Beaver will be upriver on the Blacks. But will not be suprised to see some monster smallmouth. No shad kill this winter has really put some weight on fish this year.
  21. 58-15 for three days is suprising to me. My guess was 42lbs. That is impressive work to get that weight in the shape the Rocks been in.
  22. Duane.. stop fishing... tie more... I NEED THEM... Dang things just flat out catch fish. The walleye tore them up, Throw it out 3 twitches and hook up. I almost forgot why i was out there today and switched over to target them specifically. But I told you I would see how it works... It works great is the answer.
  23. I went out with one mission today, catch as many fish and species as possible on some flies that Duane had gave me the other day when we met at Taneycomo. Arriving at the lake at 11:00 am, I ran into the back of Coose first as yesterday evening Myself and a friend had spotted some Blue Wing teal and I wanted some pictures of them in full color. I was not disappointed they were still there and allowed me to get close enough to get a bunch of fine shots. Here is one of a number of good pictures. Proceeding back to one of the coves, Where we had spotted some carp was not a disapointment 3 carp on the DuckyDevestater for 15 to 20 pnds. While messing with the carp a Nice 10pnd gar decided to show himself and I had to try it, Those hooks are sharp as anyone who has ever tried to hit a Gar knows their mouths are like concrete. Five minutes later the Gars was in. Then onto the mission at hand. Hello Mr Whitey Or should I say the first of 32 white, 3 stripers and 3 hybrids. Sorry Duane i was to busy laughing an catching one after another to keep taking pictures. But then something completely unexpected happened. These flies apparently are on the dinner menu for this fish? Not just one Walleye but Two walleye ate it. I felt I had proven out the fly well enough to pick up my other favorite type of fishing lure a Pop R, and continued catching whites and hybrids. A word of caution there is a lot of floating debris in the water be very careful on the water.
