Sweet video man. I've got a project coming up on filming a Kayak fishing trip, this gave me a couple more ideas! Well done!

I love this show more and more as well. Watson has his own way of being funny that's for sure, some of it was awkward, but most of it was entertaining. He was nailing them on that spoon.. I think it was Chapman that made the Ned rig comment, he was using it before he left the marina area.. First time I've heard it mentioned as well.

What is the largest fish you have caught in MO?
LittleRedFisherman replied to grizzly's topic in General Angling Discussion
62 pound flathead Mississippi River. -
I bought one as well back in the spring, with the same concerns, I basically use it as a crankbait and spinnerbait reel. I guess Fritts theory is you feel the bite more in the handle if there's some play? I like mine fine, it does cast great and I don't give that much of a thought now. I have not used it as a jig reel though, that might be different..

Tx Dave, yes update us on your success. I love to throw jerkbaits, I usually mix um in even when i'm jig fishing. If your in good brown territory, they increase your chances of hooking a big hungry one. I've thrown a few different colors and kinds, but my favorite trout color is also my on of my favorite bass ones, if you try a megabass, get an elgony bone color, I really like that one. Seth mentioned those RC STX baits, I've had good luck with those as well for a lot less money.. Good Luck!

It was a pretty day here after church Sunday, so snuck off to the river again for a few hours of fishing in a different spot. Scraped out a few gooduns.

Some folks around my parts find this project kinda interesting so, thought i'd share it here, i'm pretty excited to get the chance to do this. To try to make a long story kinda shorter, I am restoring my Great Grandfathers 1936 Ford 1.5 ton truck he used on the farm. As far as I know, he bought it new, my grandfather was only 14 then, and would tell me some stories about this truck. It was used for years, till my Great Grandfather passed away in the early 60's, then my great uncle inherited it, and used it for awhile till it was finally stored in a barn. Probably 20 or more years went by with it inside the barn, till the barn had to be torn down, and the old truck wound up in a fencerow. After my great uncle passed away in the 80's, our cousin inherited the truck and had plans to fix it up, but it never came to be. My grandfather offered to help him do it, and at least store it on our farm here out of the weather. I got a call from my cousin back in the fall, and she knew that I have restored some old tractors in the past, she asked if i'd be interested in purchasing the old truck at a fair price, I jumped at the opportunity. My grandfather has since passed, but I knew he wanted to see this old beauty restored, so in his honor, and of course for my interest in the truck, that's been my winter project. I've got the brakes working, fixed all the seals and bearing that seem to needed it. I think the transmission is good to go, as well as the rear end. I'm doing most of this myself with the help from my dad, but I'm having the old flathead professionally overhauled, it will be better than when Henry rolled um off the line supposedly. I've painted the frame, sealed and primered the cab, and just fininshed painting the inside of the cab. it's a lot of work, but i'm having a ball doing it, it's expensive to, but dad and I are sharing the cost. I'm getting help on the Ford Barn site, and this is a very popular topic there. It has cut in on my winter fishing some, but it's ok, when I get it fixed I might pull the boat to the river with it someday....ha. Here's a few pics..

I'll chime in on this. I tried nanofil and loved it, i'm mainly a river fisherman these days, with a little time on the lake in the summer. I didn't like tying the knots in the leader so I resisted using it and rigged up a spinning rod with some Invisx. It works fine, although does not cast near as easy as my two Nano rods. One thing I like about the Nano, is when swinging baits in the current, like a ned, or something else, the diameter allows it to swing slower keeping it in the zone longer. I took a buddy last week for a few hours who's not bass fished much, he used my floru rod with the same pound test, and immediately noticed mine was staying in the strike zone longer.. I've had good luck with the nano lately about not breaking at knots, but have in the past. It may just be me, but I break less using a mono leader? I love the my all flouro set up when I break off, but love the performance of my Nano/leader set up!

Caught a few cold water Smallies

Not really Marcus just grinding out a bite on cold water that warmed up a bit with the weather. It's the challenge of finding them that I find fun these days. -

I did. The e6x model. Loved it!! Couldn't agree more Mitch! -
Got out yesterday with a good friend of mine that had never been smallie fishing. think he had been wondering why I love it so much! We made a quick trip to the river closest to home and found some wintered smallies! The weather warmed up and caught a few largemouth and one spot as well as two crappie Action was slow just feeling dead weight a lot of times on the rod. My new loomis I bought with some Christmas money proved to be quite impressive for the lethargic bites! My friend said next time I invite him he will be ready, think he liked it to!

Some monster fish from 2015
LittleRedFisherman replied to Fish24/7's topic in General Angling Discussion
Here's a few from the past year! All but my sons pictures are river fish! I'm in the car with my wife driving so bored so I posted a bunch. I always wish I could fish more every year, but taking time to look back on these.... I'm a blessed man and got to fish more than some do! Hope everyone has a great new year! -
Well said Pete.

If you can get that knot down pat I love nano. Pete I'm using a 7 ft st croix rage med. with nano. You can feel um breath on it. You did good going mL I think. I bought mine at bass pro and had 4 rods out looking at um. Didn't realize I had the med weight until got home. Lol. It works just fine tho. I need to check out this eye con series, haven't seen those yet.

Warm weather had um active! 12/15 report
LittleRedFisherman replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in Smallmouth Talk
Thanks guys... It was hard not to do the same thing today, but I did actually work on the ole truck today.... it was breezier but still would of been another great day.. After a brief cooldown, next week is looking warm again in the forcast. -
Yesterday I had one of those opportunites I get only this time of year with my occupation. I went to the farm shop about 930 to work on a project, and it was dead calm, bluebird sky, bout 50 degrees already, and I had to move my boat out of the shop to work on my project. Well, when I hooked the boat up, I decided to forget the project and take advantage of a golden opportunity, I can work on that any cold day in the shop, days like this in Dec. are a gift, so I grabbed my poles and tackle and headed to the river. I was going to have about 4 hours or so to fish as I had to be back for my daughters basketball game, so I went as close as I could to home. I had seen a post on facebook recently where a guy had caught a dandy, and have been chatting with Mitch a little the other day about Fall patterns still active with the warmer weather, so that was my plan. The river was up some from the recent rain, but it wasn't blown out, just a little green stain, which I llike. Once again, I took my usual 5 poles, but I stayed with a slow finesse type pattern for the most part. Basically looking for slower water areas near some current. Well, that patteren didn't disappoint, managed to catch 15 to 20 in about 4 hours, it wasn't hot action, but it was evenly spread out over the time spent on the water, and the quality was good. Largest was a 17 incher, with 2 more round 15, plus a few largemouth and a crappie even to put the icing on a great December afternoon on the water. My knee jerk decision to go fishing, instead of working on my 36 Ford project turned out to be a wise one! This was a lot more fun than running a sandblaster!

Missed you to Cody. Maybe we can go sometime this winter!

Having a great time at jig fest 3. Today was a great day on the river. Despite higher levels and some trash there were some nice fish caught today. Others will chime in later I'm sure. Griz caught a big brown today I'll let him talk about. Here's a few I caught today including a fat 17 inch brown ! The food was awesome as always. Terrierman and griz are awesome cooks!!
