  1. Here's a video from lasts years jig fest!
  2. Thanks griz, I can probably make it hopefully! I have a fresh stash of flathead just ready for the occasion!! If I come I can bring a boat to! Will know more as it gets closer!
  3. I'll make every effort to make it as well, looking forward to it!!
  4. Thanks guys, that was fun, wish we could go again this Saturday, but looks like the weekends off deal are over for awhile..
  5. Took my son out Saturday on the river, heard they were biting and they were. Lost the big fish of course, but caught a lot of feisty ones. More importantly had a great time with my son as usual, and had a camera set up, so caught some funny stuff on it. I put together this little clip for myself mostly to look back on someday, and for him to look back on someday. Hopefully he will be taking me fishing someday when I get to old to handle the boat....Lord willing of course. When he asked me to go fishing on a Saturday instead of wanting an Ipad or and Xbox, I feel like i'm doing something right! Hope it continues! Bret.. Oh yeah, he's 6 years old, and has been using my spinning gear since he was 5....:)
  6. Thanks ya'll, this is about the only fish I clean these days, and man they are tasty. Some of the folks around here that don't understand why I drive to the Ozarks to catch and release smallies, I tell um I eat flathead...ha. bfishn, I've done that before, and it's fun, a lot of times for me, i'll run lines between work, that was the case here. We all worked till evening, baited out, ran um and cleaned um early and went back to work. I"d love to hang a 50 pounder on a rod, man that would be fun! Here we were trotlining, had 4 lines out about 200 feet, on the St Francis here at home, I like to do short limblines, the antipation going up to each line has a thrill of it's own for me!!
  7. I've always considered myself a river fisherman, just something about it I love. My favorite these days is chasing smallmouth, but my roots started out pursuing flathead cats here in the Delta! Last night I joined a couple buddies and went after um again, it did not disappoint! The backdrop as we baited out the last line last night was breathtaking! Just made you stop for a minute!
  8. Awesome job fellas!! Well done! My son caught his first smallie last month, looking forward to the future, he loved it. Start um young, that's the way to mold a life long fishing buddy!
  9. Nice pic Chief! Believe or not didn't catch one of those all day. Ham, we do need to to that, slot of my trips are very short notice this time of year, but let try to go this month! 2sheds, fished near Ellington, first time I've been up there! Beautiful country, did my soul good! Scott, I get some weekends off, but usually devote them to the family this time of year, yesterday was one of those days I could get free up there. Gonna try to go a couple more times this month hopefully!
  10. finally made it to current river today to get on some small mouth. It was long overdue did not catch any monsters but had a good day catching some quality fiesty fish. Caught them on different methods todayit was a lot of fun! If you haven't been out on the water lately get out there it sure did me a lot of good!
  11. Thanks guys! Limblines here on the ST francis at home. Some of these spots I found as a kid with my Grandfather, the still produce today although the river has changed. Water is high from Wappepello letting out so much, still setting um out on a spring pattern.
  12. Had a big night on the river last night! The rise and fall of the river all summer has um active!
  13. That's right Ham, although u can go here during the week and nobody here in the summer much. Yesterday bout 30 boats at the ramp!
  14. Had to cut video short when I said hold on, current river didn't give time to be off trolling moter long yesterday!
  15. Thanks y'all!! Mitch the ned was the culprit of this to!! figured he might catch some goggle eye to witch we did !
  16. The river was crazy as expected today, and the water was stained due to the recent rains, but got a chance to take my son smallie fishing for the first time! With the advice I've gotten on here in the past, we would fish awhile, then pull up to a gravel bar and play in the water, then fish again. The fishing wasn't stellar, but we scratched out a few fish, and my son landed this one in the video finally, hooked and caught on his own, after I was trying to get him to fish some boulders I was casting towards, he insisted on casting in the middle of the river...lol, then caught this! Great day on the river, and a happy dad, I think he's hooked! Hope all of ya'll on here had a great 4th!
  17. My grandmother got Rocky Mountian Fever from a tick years ago, she was being treated for the flu or a bad cold at first, her doctor had her on his mind one night when she came back in that day even worse after a week of antibiotics for the cold, he remembered her saying she had been to Hardy a couple weeks ago. He called her that night and had her get up there, she was at the point of Hallucinating, probably saved her permanent damage or even her life by him calling her that night. I got bit by a tick about 15 years ago when at Hardy, and developed the traditional bullseye rash of Lyme. I went to the Doc, he tested me and it was negative, but he gave me some pills for the lyme anyways. Rash went away after a couple days of the pills, so wondered if I really had it?
  18. Thanks guys, yes very fortunate to have this place in the family, my grandparents bought into the POA back then and built a cabin, been in the family since 1963, it's pretty much like it was when it was built, which I love, many memories. My son loves it to, hope to get to go more later in the summer, starting to get the bull by the horns on the farm finally, it's been a battle getting this one planted!
  19. I haven't been on here much lately as this is my busy season, and haven't got to fish lately. After 14 straight days in the field, we were able to take off yesterday, and made a made dash to the family Cabin in Hardy. I was nice to get to do some fishing with my son, he had really taken to fishing in the past year, at only 6 years old, he has to fish with my stuff, no more kiddy poles for him...lol He actually prefers my St. Croix Rage spinning rod, with yes....the Ned rig... .. Anyhow, he caught several fish this weekend all on his own, he actually cast a 7 foot rod quite well, and nows how to work the lure. The most important thing, we have such a great time together, and am thrilled that he seems to have a knack and love for fishing. Next chance I get, i'm taking him Smallie fishing on the Current, I think he's ready!!
  20. For stability with Kids, you'd love a 48 inch Shawnee/supreme! I have no worries taking my family out in mine, very stable!!
  21. Great report Kyle. I have not fished the little red much lately myself. It's a great little trout river, I used to fish it a lot hence my username..lol. 18 inch brown is also my largest in there. The rouse fly fishing boys caught some big browns in there! I"m with Kyle on the different feel of the river, up near JFK park, it's similar to white river with more rock and bluffs. Down near Lobo, it's a lot like a bottom land river, with trout in it, very unique..
  22. Looks like a great time Scott! Making memories worth while!!
  23. Great fish Phil! Good job fighting it as well!
