Fishing After Christmas!
LittleRedFisherman replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in Little Red River
Thanks Marcus, I may consider trying that! Since you mentioned the lower stretch, that brings another question. I read an article here while back on Ar, hidden secrets for fishing. One that was mentioned was the Searcy stretch of the River, it claimed to have decent smallmouth fishing there? Have you ever tried that? That's like 5 minutes from Higgenson where my In Laws live. -
Someone suggested at our White River get together that the Rainbows on average don't last very long in the river like 7-30 days or something like that. I wonder if anybody has a link to that information? Ham, you talking about because of being kept, or just a short life span in the River?

Full Video Of My Brown Trout Trip!
LittleRedFisherman replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in White River
Yes, they ran a couple units that morning, then shut them down, drifted spots all morning. When I hooked that big one, it's when they shut the water off, about an hour had went by of low water, and yes, he had to pull ancher, took about 10 minutes to land. Yes, he's very good, been doing that for 20 some odd years he said. Don't like how they can swallow the hook fishing like that, but it works. He texted me this summer and said he saw that same fish working that same area in some low clear water, I bet it's over 30 inches by now!! -
Hitting the Little Red with the Father in Law while we down there for Chritmas! Planning on focusing on jig fishing this time, and gonna try to get him to do that as well, ( he still likes power bait). Any advice on a good stretch for some jig fishing, might sling a flyrod some to, but I know where to go there. I usually put in and fish around lobo in the deeper water. Been from JFK to Lindseys also, nice stretch! Any ideas, Bret.

Full Video Of My Brown Trout Trip!
LittleRedFisherman replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in White River
Thanks guys, haven't watched this myself in awhile, you brought it up from deep in the Threads. It measured 29 inches, and we were using minnows. I'm not a bait guy with trout, love to fish jigs these days, but this was a guided trip in search of big browns, and this does do that. I sure wasn't expecting a fish that big that day, one I'll never forget!! -
Ham will have to tap into the "Rough" fish category to do this. Bowfin, being the sportiest rough fish I know, ( I can hook you up on some of those). Long and shortnose gar would count for two. There's different kinds of suckers and carp as well as catfish. I'm sure it can be done, but will take a lot of time that I sure don't have enough of. Hams there's a drainage ditch here on the farm, that you probably could knock a dozen off your list in one day.

I believe this would be mine as well Mitch....

I'll chime in on this one, been raising soybeans my whole life. The genetic modification with beans is perfectly safe to eat dispite what the general public thinks and see's from the media. You can however still get "conventional" soybeans if you like, most of the modified beans are to the herbicide "Roundup" which is about as safe as a herbicide can get, there are some out now that are "Liberty Link" that you can spray a glufosinate type herbicide on. However the sprout would be perfectly safe to eat. There's nothing bred into soybeans to keep insects off. If you have a local Co op or somewhere that sells soybeans, if you just want a small amount, you shouldn't have any trouble finding any. If your concerned about the GMO beans, just ask for conventional seed. If you can't find any, I have a couple open bags left out in the shed, i'll send ya some!

Now that's what i'm talking about! Way to go guys! I'm so jealous, I was gonna do this myself this week, but obligations kept me from it...

Thanks, these jigs look pretty much like a standard Marabou jig, don't look any different than a P&J Jig you see everywhere, which will still catch a lot of fish. I think that's what Phil used, and he put on a clinic with them. The zig jig just has an oblong head that makes it wobble some when jigged, a little more life, and a quality mustad hook. If you make jigs, you could probably make yours very similar. They do catch fish, very impressed with them, and jig fishing in general for trout. If your a spin fisher, this has got to be in your arsenal. It's a blast, all these guys were awesome to fish and hang out with!! Recommend it to anyone!

Here's a video I put together last night from some footage I had from the wonderful trip us guys had on White River last weekend. I wish I had took footage from the cabin experience and got all of us together, but didn't think to do that, guess all the fun distracted us from that. This is pretty much all fishing video, would of loved to had some video of Phil and his success that weekend, and you to Terrierman. Anyhow, here's what I came up with, hope ya'll like it!! Video

O A F Winter White River Trip 2013

Putting the finishing touches on a short video of our trip!! Wish I had videoed more of us guys round the cabin to put in this. Ham, I bet I know where your heading the first chance you get now...lol -
As an owner of an L48, there's no need for me to repeat what these guys have said, totally agree. If your wanting a boat around that size, i'd look at some of the aluminum's. I'm a huge fan of a War Eagle boat, that's my big water/duck hunting boat, it will cut through waves and built like a tank, plus corners extremely well on a winding river. Winds like you speak of will blow any boat around, but the Supremes float so shallow, they will be affected more.

Too Good To Be True?

I had a 25 Nissan for years, which unless i'm mistaken was the same motor as a Tohastsu, it was very reliable, never a minutes trouble, and I ran it hard back then. -
O A F Winter White River Trip 2013
LittleRedFisherman replied to hoglaw's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well said Hoglaw, that pretty much sums it up for me!! I've fished in colder weather, but never a long float that far from the truck before, but like Hoglaw said we were well prepared, extra clothes, Ham had an on board heater, etc. Hoglaws boat was big enough you could fall out of it and still be in it.. This for sure makes for better story telling. I just left my local cotton gin and was telling them some about the trip, they loved the one when I said when I picked a fish up out of the water it warmed my hands...lol, which it did.. They also asked me about the rod eyes freezing up, I told them the sleet bounced off, that was an advantage. Muddy and Hoglaw, hope ya'll get the pictures lines out, like to see some of the Norfork!!. Also, thought i'd add that I downloaded some video off the gopro awhile ago, may take a bit, but gonna try to throw a video together of the trip! -

Made it home myself guys, and got in just in time for my Sunday school Christmas party. This was a great trip in many ways, all you guys were great! Ham was right about the different backgrounds, but one thing in common, a love for fishing, fellowship, and the Ozarks. Thanks again to Ham and Hoglaw for bringing there boat and putting us on the fish, there knowledge of this wonderful river has a lot to do with the success we had, Hoglaws (Kyle) call yesterday to make a extra run down before we loaded out made for some pretty good brown trout catches! He's such a nice guy and would love to fish with you again. Maybe next time you can break out the guitar? Ham (The Jig Master) was better than most guides in teaching me tricks of the Jig, tying knots, and what to look for on the river. A great guy with a passion for fishing, and teaching people. A passion for catching trout like I've never seen, you for sure "stay mad at um" as you say all day long! Glad to call you a friend! GotMuddy just has fun with whatever he's doing, and great guy and fisherman, awesome brisket the other night to! Looking forward to fishing with many times in the future as we are close to the same waters! Terrierman (Rick) was great to meet you and thanks for the apple crisp for the dessert to the fish fry, he was bending over backward trying to help me out last night while cooking, got a love a giving soul. Dispite a bum shoulder, he was putting um in the boat so I was told! Hope we can fish in the same boat someday!! Quilback (Jeff) was a true gent, and one heck of fisherman, every time I looked over I saw a splashing fish, awesome dog to, may let you give my beagle some obedience training...lol. Phil, we didn't get to visit as much as I liked, but I enjoyed meeting you, and still hearing about how good you are with a jig. Found out what a great and God lead man you are, class act!! Hopefully we will get a report from Hoglaw and Muddy, they hit the Norfork this morning and left when it was about 22 degrees. Hope we do this again next year, maybe we need a spring trip or something.. Ham, this last pic if for you buddy, it was on my phone that I couldn't use much while we were there. Glad I could catch it........ -

LittleRedFisherman replied to hoglaw's topic in General Angling Discussion
To follow up on GotMuddys post thought i'd show some pics from the day, and it was another great day! Today I fished with Hoglaw and Quillback as we floated from Rileys Station to Norfork. We got on them quick, and Quillback got going strong early, he had this jig fishing down right off the bat! He was nailing them with a red and black zig jig. Hoglaw and I were on them as well using different color jigs. I pretty much stayed with the olive and ginger that was hot yesterday. Wasn't long before Hoglaw caught a nice brown. Today the fish ran a little smaller early on, but later in the day we caught nicer fish. As the day wore one, Hoglaw talked us into floating some water below the Norfork confluence down to Steamboat. That was a good move, our best action of the day for the Browns. We had about a 50 percent ratio of Rainbows and Browns down there, and caught some nice fish. Hoglaw did great job putting us on the fish in his big Riverboat. Now we just finished eating some fish I cooked outside, some Flathead I caught out of the St. Francis a while back. What a great time we have had, this has to be an annual event now!! Some of us are leaving in the morning, but Hoglaw and Muddy are going to try to catch an early morning scheduled generation on the Norfork, so wish I could make it for that one! Great time, great folks, great fishing!! What a trip. Today we caught somewhere between 250 and 300 trout between six guys and two boats. Ham "The Jig Master" caught 78 on his own, a fishing machine!! Thanks to Phil for running such an awesome fishing site for things like this to happen!
