  1. I recently registered a used 10' jon boat. Per the Missouri DOR website, I should have recieved a "Pocket Card". http://dor.mo.gov/motorv/watercraft/ Pocket Card: is the certificate of number issued to a vessel. must be available for inspection at all time while the vessel is in operation. is printed at the same time as the certificate of title. is printed when the vessel registration is renewed. When I asked the clerk at the counter (who was extremely helpfull by the way) about the pocket card, they told me that MO is no longer using this. My question is, Does anyone here have any experience with this? This is my first time owning a boat of any kind, and I really don't anticipate any problems, as I will be on small private ponds and possibly a couple slow streams, but I don't want any just the same. I registered it because I would like the option to use a trolling motor if I decide to on public waters. 3 years for approx $30 is a cheap option as far as I'm concerned.
  2. if you have 5 minutes, watch and listen.
  3. Oh, I see now that you told me. Thank you for the quick response. I may one day need one.
  4. OG, other than $90.00 and color, what is the difference in the apex and the castaway 100's? Just being nosey, not into buying a Kayak right now.
  5. Thank you for the invite, I may just take you up on that. I live in Festus, Grew up in South St Louis, and work in Affton. I have seen the products of the rivers, but have not gotten the pleasure of hooking up the bigguns.
  6. ONLY 14 pounds? I know there are some monsters in the Mec, but 14lb cat, for me is something to brag about. Just getting out of off the banks this year, maybe this boy will become a man.... ...... Getting excited like a 10 year old who gets his first bb gun.
  7. Good point Tim. I appreciate an explanation vs, a putdown. I did look at the link before that post, Was just kinda thinking out loud per say. I am also curious if they are using steel shot instead of lead shot. It was not mentioned. You can get a picture and post it for dramatic reasons and change how people think about something that may not be the real problem. My point being the birds pictured may only be 2 of millions, and they are poster birds, but the real problem may not be lead sinkers, but lead shot. Which is harder to identify. As noted in prior post, I am aware that we here in MO do have problems with lead affecting our birds and I do understand that we need to adapt new ways in order to help slow down the negative reactions. I have no problem using a different source to fish with. I have been trying to think of different things that could be used for years, as I have heard of lead being a problematic item for our fish/wildlife. I just don't seem to have the resources or outlets. I have found many different outlets since joining this website, and may look into them. I think this is a good topic, and appreciate the feedback.
  8. Great contribution Clayton. Thank you.
  9. Mighty fine boat you have in the works. I am still in the dream mode. I will have something this summer, but nothing compared to that. I have so far enjoyed your progress reports and hope that you keep them comming. Even though this thread doesnt get as much buzz as others. :-) PS Nice of you to give credit where it is due. Wish more of us could do the same in the world.
  10. I think the guy in the pic on top and the guy in the picture on the link are two different people. Maybe there were 2 record fish caught in neighboring lakes? Or, maybe the guy kept evading the police so they set him up on a sting operation with a trophy fish, so they could bust him. LOL
  11. I think it sounds like a good idea, I would worry about tangles as was mentioned by Stoneroller, but if you were to use wire for the trailer as shown by Mitch, that could solve the issue, and keep it uniform. With fishing line the trailer will not be consistant, but could be with a stiff wire. Now you will have to come up with a name for the .....Rig.
  12. I am not sure what the bird hunting is like in the NE or what the restrictions are around there. I know that in MO when I took Hunters Ed, it was mentioned that while hunting in certain areas you can not use leadshot, due to similar problems with eagles. In short small animals eat off of the bottom of lakes and streams, ingesting lead, they are pursued by eagles and while the eagle eats the animal infected with lead, the eagle then dies due to lead poisoning. I guess my point is: yes lead sinkers contribute, but I really wonder if we all stop now, will it make a noticeable difference. All of the existing stuff would need to be removed. Just a thought.
  13. Careful there, I heard you could get a 2 year ban on your license for that . ;-) (see how that stuff explodes)
  14. There are videos on youtube for both boats. The frog boat was mentioned on an earlier thread. Seems like a neat boat to have. Not real expensive (in the scheme of things).
  15. Love the "torpedo of pure muscle" reference. Sounds like alot of fun. Sucks about the weather, but maybe thats what made it so much fun at the same time.
  16. Very well put Dutch. I have wrangled with the WANT factor for years, but the storage, maintenance, lack of time etc, has always kept me at bay. Mike, I have no experience with boats other than my 10 foot jon. It serves me for what I need it for, and I kind of feel bad that it sits as much as it does. Kinda like a new puppy, gets abandoned after a while.
  17. Thank you for the in depth instructions. It is nice to be informed on habits, which help build confidence.
  18. What can it hurt? I am proposing to put it on the baords that are already there. Sure, everyone who is doing it may not see it, but it will make more people aware of it, just like the original topic did. I guess I believe when soemone does something wrong, it doesn't seem as "wrong" when they think no one knows about it. When they realize the evidence of their wrongdoing is found, maybe they will slow down or stop. Kinda like the idea to keep people from moving firewood. The more people see the pictures of the dead forests, the more they decide to go ahead and buy it locally. If I am doing something wrong, and I know someone is on to me, I am more likely to straighten up. I know what my signature line says, and it is a joke. I do try to live by morals, and try to follow most laws.
  19. I don't know how an extra fee will stop people from poaching. If someone wants to break the law, they sure aren't gonna pay more for the assumed allowance. Outlawing this even if only a couple hundred people are doing it legally, is not gonna stop those who do it illegally. We are dealing with a similiar problem with sudafed and Meth in Jefferson county. Do not punish the good people for the actions of the bad people. Giggers pay a fee for the priviledge. It is included with the price of the license we all pay for to fish.
  20. I have not seen any fish that have gig marks, haven't been on the river in quite a while. I am of the belief that it "could" be something other than giggers/poachers, maybe eagles, motor props ect. That being said, why is it that only one species of fish seems to be affected? All fish could be hit by a prop, could be bit by turtles, grabbed by eagle's talons. I realize that most who are reporting are seeking smallmouth above all else, but no one is reporting seeing it on sunfish, trout, or catfish. By seeing some of the marks, I would guess most of these 'got away', it only stands to reason that other species would show the same marks be it something other than giggers/poachers. Again, I believe if these pictures were plastered on the notification boards in and around the areas they are found in, the ones resposible will think twice, and maybe quit alltogether. Conservation officers are limited on what they can do. We the fisherman/women, can help in our own ways. Lets be proactive in getting the message out that we know what is happening. What can it hurt?
  21. Looking very nice. I'm sure it will turn out very well.
  22. I was thinking the dam would collapse due to the force of the water. All of these years Hollywood has had me confused.
  23. Seen a few of them in tanks like this one. I have never caught or seen one in the wild.
  24. I have not used them yet, I do enjoy catfishing above all else. I know there are many different things that work in dough balls, but I think yours is first time I've seen sardines in the recipe. Thank you for sharing.
