  1. They don't scare me as I don't consiously break any laws that they would have problems with. I would offer them a dew also. We may not use the same slang, but we could get along just fine.
  2. Sorry to hijack, But, what is Moose Drool? Is it a local beer? The topic has been entertaining, and I will throw in my 2cents. You can get a ticket for anything any officer wants to ticket you for. It is up to you to contest the legality of it. (innocent until proven guilty, HA!). Eric, Not all Hoosiers leave glass in the creeks/rivers. Hell, Mountain Dew only comes in plastic now anyhow. Not JUST Hoosiers leave glass in the creeks and rivers. I hope that by me being a South St Louis Hoosier would not prevent us from being able to fish together. ;-) I practice Leave No Trace. " This Mountain Dew's for you "
  3. JD, I have no problems with trapping, I am interested in it myself. Protecting your animals and family/household is your right. I just was turned off by the idea of a thousand tacks in the middle of the forest which, in no logical way could be picked up, and other animals would suffer pain that would possibly lead to infection and a slow painful death for no benefit to anyone. I am a small game hunter, I hunt deer and such, no luck yet. You gotta stand for something or you will fall for anything. You guys now know my stance. :-)
  4. Very nice Phil. What? No mention of sponsors and why their (......) works so well in helping you catch these nice fish as apposed to the others..? :-) Nice job, I will much rather watch someone who is doing it for the love of it vs someone who started because of the love of it, and got caught up.
  5. You paint a beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing the experience.
  6. ..... Understood. Sorry, items written in text lack the emotion that is "read" while the same items are spoken.
  7. Come on guys, its things like that, that get the PETA types in an uproar. That is "Cruel and Unusual" in my book. Remember what you were taught in ethics in Hunters Ed. Quick Clean Kill. The thumbtacks can be stepped on by many animals and shed by the coyotes that originally picked them up, and then your own pets may step on them. Not trying to ruin anyone's day, but somethings (if practiced) should not be public.
  8. I guess the quote "Ratings are for people who dont understand safe boating speeds and conditions" probably applies to someone like myself. I was raised in the concrete jungle, the only swimming we did growing up was at the local pool. The ponds we fished in as kids were 3 feet deep at the most, and stocked on a regular basis, and did not allow any type of watercraft. I have ventured out, but mostly fished from the banks of other areas and I have been to the Mississippi River on many trips, Just did not have access to a boat. I carried all of my tackle and rods on my bicycle. Now I have a boat and a couple of kids and I am trying to be the parent that teaches the children safety over all else. I realize that many factors come in to the CG tag and I figured it is rated low, for extra security. I will be powering with a 32lb thrust trolling motor, mostly on slow creeks and slow rivers. I just don't want to become a statistic. Thank you guys for the replys, it does give me a basis, and I guess like everything else in fishing, it will be a trial and error learning experience.
  9. This is probably a dumb question, but anyway, here goes. I have a 1988 10' little jon. On the coast guard tag it states max weight 350 lbs gear and persons. It is approx 36 inches wide and 10 foot from bow to stern. My question is why do canoes hold 600lbs plus when they do not have such wide floors? It makes sense to me that if you are wider/deeper you should be able to displace more. I feel if you can displace more, then you should be able to hold more weight. Now physics may come into play and I am sure I am missing something in this equation. I am just wondering and maybe someone here can explain this in laymens terms. Thanks in advance.
  10. Congrats! Sounds like it will be a neat job.
  11. "like", giving credit where credit is due.
  12. Man, and I was afraid to go into the forest because I was afraid of Bigfoot..... Seems like I maybe a loony.....
  13. In this case, I must be a large multi corporation. I repair my own cars (mechanic), I repair problems with my sink/toilet/shower (plumber), I have fixed carpet issues (floor layer), I painted the inside of my house (painter), I help my children with homework (teacher), I plugged in all of my appliances (electrician), my wife and I car pool (chauffer), ect. Man! I would go under if I had to pay taxes on all of these 'businesses' that I run. :-) OK, this article is about "building". I have built birdhouses for my sons, along with pinewood derby cars. Uh' Oh' .....don't tell the govt.....
  14. I knew in Colorado there were wild horse herds, but I was not aware of them in MO. That is interesting to know. I would sure be upset if I hit one on the road.... Wild and free....
  15. Just to let you in on a St Louis thing, Hoosier around here means white trash. I am familiar with Indiana's pride of being a hoosier, but most around here would not. Welcome from a fellow Hoosier : St Louis Native. :-)
  16. I am under the impression that if you were to fish for trout, you need a tag. Wether you keep or release, you are required to have a tag. If you are not fishing for them directly and happen upon one, and do not posses a tag, you must release immediately. If fishing in a park which a daily trout permit is purchased, a tag is not required as long as fishing in the area dictated by the daily permit. Just the way that I understand and have interpreted from various resources. I would hate to see someone fined for not having a tag.
  17. What!?, no magic silver bullet? LOL Your exactly right. Catfishing is my favorite fishing. I like to let it sit and wait them out. While I wait, thats when I play for bass and such.
  18. I really like Greasy B's list. Myself... Just to get out as much as I can with the kids. Simple.
  19. You did the hardest part in "starting". Keep it up, it will be a fun project. On the 1/2 inch deal, there are many options, just use your imagination. I think the butt joint with an additional 1/2 in of ply would perform just as well as if it was never short. ( I'm no boat builder, or a carpenter for that matter, but I play one on OAF :-) . PS thanks for the info on World Panel. I will look them up when I'm ready to do it right.
  20. sounds neat, a little out of my area, and I have to work. Keep it up, take the kids, show them why they don't litter firsthand.
  21. It is clouding up now around here, Maybe it has merit. Very neat thing to see anyhow.
  22. http://www.snowmobilecolorado.com/snow.htm This is the outfitter we used. Both years that we went, we had amazing tour guides. The lodge was really neat, and they had private trails that led into the National Forest. We got to look down on South Park, CO, that was really neat as I was really into the cartoon at the time. I can't believe that I couldnt remember the name. I do recomend this company. The name is "Good Times", and I must say they lived up to it.
