You have any luck yet with the deer? I’ve been at it for 5 days now and have only seen 1. Could've shot it but I feel better if I give the first one a pass. Nothing more for me yet, since seeing that one late Tuesday.

Not yet. I saw four Sat morning, three does and a small buck. I'm not picky and would have shot any of them if provided a good shot. Two of the does would not stop and I have had bad luck with walking deer. The buck gave me a quartering away shot, but the sun filled my scope obscuring the image enough for me not to pull the trigger. He didn't wait long enough for me to cover the scope or move slightly. Went out on Monday and sat watching squirrels.
I plan on going out again this weekend. Good luck if you get out!

Thanks. Actually saw one today before the storm came in. It literally almost ran into me. It was running when I saw it and must not have seen me cause it came right at me. 10 feet from me it finally saw me and then cut away downhill from me in panic. I didn’t shoot at it as it ran off and it didn’t stop soon enough for me to shoot at it while stopped. Could only vaguely see it with all the brush between it and me by that point. But it feels real good to see one again. Spending 5 full days and only seeing 1 deer was beginning to wear on me.

Well, what's the deal mother Teresa? I'm still waiting to hear back from you or Gavin as to where I should go help. Heard this morning that they're holding off on taking the bags down in Eureka, so for the time being that's not an option. But I figured if you're not busy kayaking in flood waters again, you might have some tips as to where to go help out for those of us clueless ones with some time to help today. Or do you want to hold out, so you can try to act all high and mighty some longer, for filling up a couple sandbags.

Well, what did you have in mind as far as helping out? Cause around where I'm at, I haven't seen or heard any calls for volunteers to help with anything out today. Seems like people were mainly waiting it out now. But I got a shovel and rain gear, so if you know someplace nearby Arnold I can get to, let me know.

Hey Al, two things, one a quick question on the Huzzah, the other on the red ribbon smallmouth extension.
1. As far as the Huzzah question, so I take it just about any road crossing permits and has parking where you can access the Huzzah from, on that modot map?
2. What kind of things make the red ribbon trout area sub-par smallmouth habitat, and how sub-par is it to areas downstream of the current smallmouth special management section? In other words, do you think the red ribbon section won't be very productive for trophy smallmouth? And how do you think the interactions between the trout and smallmouth will work out? Basically I'm trying to figure out what would likely happen with time, once the smallmouth management area comes to include the red ribbon area too.

Hey, just been kind of curious regarding that 6 HP Johnson motor you got. How much would it cost to replace the water pump assembly and the pinion that you mention is messed up with it. Also am wondering how difficult of a job that is to do yourself, if you know by any chance.

Those are the two parts I believe you need, the water pump assembly and the starter interlock (Its a plastic piece that holds the starter rope piece in place.)
I don't think it is very difficult if you are used to doing minor repairs to your own car/ lawn mower etc.
I disassembled the motor last year when I was was going to work on it myself. The hardest part was actually just getting the lower unit back on b/c you have to line up the water hose and the gear shaft (two pipes basically) in holes that you can't really see when you are putting it back together. A little frustrating, but not difficult. Lot's of videos on youtube, and this guys website was pretty helpful. http://www.leeroysramblings.com/OMC_6hp.htm
I was going to work on it my self, then sell it as a working motor, but I told myself that 8 months ago and still haven't done it, so I decided to just try and sell it. (Fund a kayak purchase)
