No, the foot we tried to bleach out got confiscated by my youngest kid. Yes a dry tuft of it laid gently on the surface will float....like anything else. Dryer lint will too. But a quick dip under the surface.....ya know, like when making another cast.....will immediately soak it. It actually soaks up water easier than a pinch of Marabou.

I've actually done this with muskrat and mink fur strips. No noticable difference. Might as well be pine squirrel or rabbit.

Properly designed Dry flys ride on the surface by a weight to mass ratio. They aren't heavy enough to completely break the surface tension of the water......Until, of course, they absorb enough water to increase their weight. You can float a dollars worth of Penny's on a piece of aluminum foil if you spread them out properly.

No. You can dunk elk/deer body hair, let it go and it will pop right to the surface. It would take hours of submersion before it would sink on its own. Shouldn't matter. Plug one end of a soda straw and it takes considerable effort to get it to sink. Even a hypodermic needle won't drip water until force is applied. Water isn't THAT thin. The test to see if a hair is hollow, is to press down on the center of it. If both ends pop skyward then it is either hollow or has a softer spongy core

Here is the bottom of a rear snowshoe hare foot. It's actually more of a fur than a hair IMO. And if any of those individual fibers are hollow it would take an electron-microscope to determine it. Dip a pinch of it in water and it immediately gets soaked. Drop the pinch of fur/hair in the bowl of water afterwards and it sinks right away. So either it's all BS, or Hareline is selling feet that are NOT from a majestic Snowshoe hare.

So, in all of this recent hare study....has anyone run across anything confirming that Snowshoe hare feet retain bodily fluids that resist water absorption? I'm betting not. 🤔

I put a wading belt around the waist of my jacket. Otherwise it gets in the way when I'm fishing. It hinders my access to the side pockets, but I can't stand loose floppy clothing of any type when I'm actively trying to do things. Nothing goes in those pockets anyway.

There SHOULD BE a "Task Force" on all this cat-converter theft that's going on. But...... there's no money in THAT for them. It's always about the war on drugs because the underground nasties get real fat on turning those drugs back out. This is the world we live in today.

I don't know, and I don't even care NOW. I have plenty of white rabbit fur and guard hairs, and as far as I can tell there isn't a bit of difference between that and the fur from between the toes of a stupid snowshoe hare, as far as dryfly winging material goes. I'm actually pissed. I've been hearing/reading about the magical properties of snowshoe hare feet for 35+ years.....Only to find out this late in my career as a flyfisherman & tyer that it's all a crock of BS. That's so frustrating! I mean, when I think of the pedigree's of the people that have mentioned that repeatedly......it makes me wanna throw pies at them.

Mine too. And there are armpit vent zippers if it's just a light rain, so there's some ventilation when you're moving around.

That makes sense to me. I'd say that you hit the nail on the head there. 👍 Determining what component needs attention, however......is the lingering mystery. I mean hell, it could be the transmission sending faulty info to the PCM for all I know. ( Confusing the shift switch with a passing gear....or something like that). All I know for sure is this is a potentially dangerous thing. Could cause someone to mow over a bunch of kids at the bus stop.....God Forbid!

Pfft ! There's no information freedom in this country. Or any other country for that matter. Why do we even listen to the news?
