I'll always remember Dawt mill as the first place I ever had fried pickles. 😂
-
Pretty sure that spotted bass prevail lakewide, much like Lanier. Tournament results from Norfork throughout the years pretty much confirm that.

What was/is so special about the McCloud river and its fish ? Is the McCloud river still a great fishery?

No kidding 🙄 Everybody wants to praise trout, while the native Smallmouth are left to deal with.....whatever. That really pisses me off.

Renting boat with technology?
fishinwrench replied to boatingadventures's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
Yeah it's beyond rediculous. But that's a huge reason why the fishing here is so good. There's 5 months out of the year where a large portion of the lake just can't be effectively fished. Those beloved "main lake points" are off limits. 😅 -

Not even close. It might look like LO in the early '90's, but I promise you it can't compare to the LO of today. -

How long has it been since you've spent a week at LO between May and October ? It ain't 1972 anymore. -
Renting boat with technology?

I did repairs on the boats rented from Adventure, when they were in business, and still do repairs on the Coconut's fleet of tri-toons. There's no money to be made in renting boats. It's just a side gig to get people to hang out at your place and spend money on other stuff. Sending people out on this lake during "the season" who aren't seasoned boat operators is a guaranteed bad move. Things are gonna get torn up and people are gonna either get hurt, lost, killed or scared to the point that they'll never come back. -
That was directed at the assumption someone made, that the Trout in the NFOW might perish because of the lack of shade since the flood.

You don't want to do that. There's a really good reason why there aren't more boats for rent around here. -
So the browns can't successfully spawn elsewhere because of WHAT then? I assumed it was because of water temps....but nearly any stream should be cool enough during that time period.
-
I'm going to assume that it's a water temperature thing. Tailwaters are consistently colder during the Summer months. But to me that makes no sense because Browns don't spawn in the Summer. Who knows 🙄 You're dealing with biologists....so nothing is required to make sense.

I'm sure they'll want to keep the "Blue Ribbon" designation to keep the giggers out. Isn't it funny that they don't consider illegal gigging a problem at all on any other body of water.....But on "Blue Ribbon" streams they strictly enforce NO GIGGING !

O'Reilly's and Wal-Mart, or Hobby Lobby. If you get lost just stand there long enough and someone will show you to the door. 🤣

It's a sign that the election drama is coming to a close...... People can begin to die from other things now. 🙄
-
I bet that something unusual has happened.....You just overlooked it. Notice that it doesn't say that you'll experience it. It just says that it will happen. 🤔

I'm good with stocking it White Ribbon style, or just allowing it to return to a smallmouth and sucker fishery like it is supposed to be. It's going to be 30-50 years before the "shade" returns, and who's to say that yet another big flood can't happen within that time frame? The Missouri Ozarks is not "Wild Trout country". Love it for what it truly is, and quit trying to transform it into something else.

Gee, I wonder where THOSE FISH came from? 🙄 Oh...Well now..... You'll definitely make some friends with that comment. There's nothing that the MDC loves more than "studying things". Maybe if they had STUDIED Stripers and Hybrids more before dumping them in Norfork...... we wouldn't have this problem right now. Would we? So.... Missouri has to pay to keep the Arkansas Stripers out. Lovely! 🤔 Maybe the AGFC will step up and donate to the cause. Ya reckon? 😂

For gouges like Bill is showing off, you can simply smooth out the edges, aquire some paint and flake to match, mix it up in a Solo cup with 2-Hour epoxy until it's as close to the original finish as possible, prep it with prep-sol or rubbing alcohol, warm the area slightly with a hair dryer, lay it in with a popsicle stick or a credit card as it begins to stiffen up, then stretch and tape a piece of Saran Wrap or wax paper over it to keep it level with the edges until it sets up good (use a credit card over the saran wrap/wax paper, as needed, to keep it smooth).......Then use some #0000 steel wool and a few drops of water to lightly blend it in. Hit it with alcohol again. Rub on a final thin coat of straight clear epoxy, let dry a couple days..... Then polish and wax. Good for at least 5-6 years. After that it may begin to yellow a bit....but by that time you'll likely have enough other blemishes on the boat that it won't matter. 😊

Houseboats, Pontoons, PWC's and a few Bayliner runabouts are about all that's available for renting here on Lake O. As far as I know. -
When you are living above your means it only takes one little hic-cup...one bad day.... to kick you right off the edge of the cliff. I was fully insured in '06 when the tornado hit, but that didn't save me. By the time I got the mess cleaned up and the shop rebuilt (built the shop first so that I could get back to work) I had maxed out 9 credit cards, so all the money allowed for personal belongings and home content had to go to pay off credit cards, some even had legal judgements on them by then. The stress related to all of that then resulted in a really nasty divorce which also cost me a ton, and partially injured me for life. It took 11 years of hard work and finaggling to get "right" again, and currently I operate 100% debt free and don't even have a credit account at all anymore. I can't even tell you how good that feels. If I can't afford to pay outright for something then I wait and save until I can.

It used to make a difference, back when Chinese made stuff was JUNK. That isn't necessarily the case anymore. -
If I turned the volume up on the radio to the same level that my ears ring all the time, it would probably blow your mind.
