  1. That is a nice looking place. Don't get offended, I'm just not into antiques or ancient houses. Obviously plenty of other people are or else few would still stand. The mere thought of converting an old coal furnace to gas, ripping out lead or tile drains, re-roofing and dealing with cracked foundations/flooded basements, creaky staircases, cracked chimneys, window weights, plaster wallboards, fused service panels and old ungrounded plug-ins and switches....and all that other ancient architecture just makes me wanna live in a van down by the river. So much more satisfying TO ME to build a new house, free of 80 year old dead mice bones.
  2. I have. Honestly that area fishes about the same as the rest of the river, you'll blank there just as often as you'll score. Some resident trout hang around but you aren't likely to find many Smallies piled up there during Winter because of the absence of a deep slow pool nearby. So IMO it's not worth the struggle to specifically get there from a downstream location.
  3. Yeah if they want to add something useful to a trolling motor they should skip the digital circuitry and add a switch that keeps it from running while it is in the stowed position. There's been a lot of blood shed at boat ramps while guys are climbing over the bow to launch/load.
  4. This is true, but nothing is more gross to me than an old house that has had 5-9 different families living in it since it was built, and has been "remodeled" a dozen times. Burn that old pile of kindling down, eradicate all of its ghosts, and put up something fresh for crying out loud! 😂 I walk through an old Victorian house and wonder how many women have been bred in THIS room? 😱 Might as well be a whorehouse. How many arguments, fights, and tears have fallen here? Yuck! Tear that crap down, don't just slap yet another coat of paint on it.
  5. The X3 is a good old school unit. Yeah the pointer will snap off if you're rough with it, but they are cheap and easy to replace. Digital circuitry extends battery life but IMO nobody really needs it. I personally don't like the way digital motors take time to get up to speed, it's irritating when you are trying to get out of a tight spot (like when manuvering between docks). I don't care if I blow a backwash..... I'm done fishing it anyway, and I just want out of there. 😁 I'm just an old school fart that appreciates simple mechanical things though. 😊
  6. I have substantial distrust in these outfits that operate on donations. Especially Children's Miracle Network and St.Judes. I just have a feeling that only a very small amount of money actually goes where it is supposed to. I'm sure they have their butt covered legally but too many people are getting a cut before the remainder goes where it is allegedly intended. I'm sure the ASPCA is no different. I'll send a 500.00 check directly to St.Judes hospital before I will let DG or Pizza Hut tack 1.00 onto my total by using their name at the checkout line. That crap hacks me off. I know for certain that DG wouldn't train their help to ask everyone if they'd like to donate at checkout....if they weren't getting a cut of it. That's just NASTY !
  7. We got one for Christmas but haven't experimented with it yet. Chicken wings and taters I can see, but can you just dip and bread your fish and have them come out crispy and yummy? I don't see how that's even possible.
  8. That is a bothersome and profoundly true statement.
  9. After my place got hit we found deep cycle batteries 250 yards away. And that was just a F2. How/why it picked up batteries and moved them that far.....but only blew my canoe (which was right next to the battery rack) only 50 feet, is a mystery. Lots of weird stuff that you can't explain can be found in tornado wreckage. Lots of the typical "bits of grass blown completely through siding boards" and stuff like that. Crazy stuff that could be considered a "miracle" if you didn't know that a twister had come through there.
  10. That name sounds familiar, but how that person has any effect on ME goes beyond my level of News attentiveness.
  11. Everyone likes to make deep water cover, but I prefer to plant brush in shallow/mid-depth water. I do all of my rock piles and brushpile building in the Winter while the water levels are at their lowest. Usually building them on dry ground.
  12. I have no idea, all I know is that I made out like a fat rat the last 2 years. I'm probably giving Trump credit for that out of ignorance. But who else has the influence to make the IRS noticably more generous ?
  13. If you failed to benefit on your return last year then you might need a different accountant.
  14. I used to think that people living in trailers and manufactured homes in tornado alley were idiots, until I had one take my house. A tornado will take a house just as easily as it will a trailer, and it's alot quicker and easier to collect the insurance and just roll in a new one. It took over 8 months to rebuild a stupid house. And after only 12 years it was already due for new siding and a new deck, then the heat pump swallowed it's @$$. Would have been way better off buying a manufactured home.
  15. Don't exactly understand the panic over the melting glaciers. Just because it has warmed from 36 below zero....to 31 below zero, doesn't mean anything is close to melting !
  16. He appeared to begin in the land down under and zig-zag/spiral his way back to the NP. Russia, North Korea, and the Holy land are either fly over countries, or they have radar blocking capabilities. 🙄
  17. Alright kids, that's enough. Santa is in Phoenix.....get your butts to bed ! 🎅
  18. I had it on my old phone so I could know which areas to avoid on the Niangua arm of the lake. I never thought to scan the rivers with it. I just use Google Maps satellite layer.

  20. Yeah I'm 180° the other way myself. Unless the argument is that the repubs shoulda just rolled their eyes and went on with their day to day lives, instead of giving it any time at all.
  21. I'll say one thing, the bee's around here are super aggressive and seem to have a major attitude. Have been out giving fly casting instructions yesterday and today and they are instantly offended by anyone swinging a stick around, they wanna take it out on your face and neck.
  22. Well played ! 👍😅
  23. I would never do psychedelics on the river! Especially after watching liquid steel (mercury?) flow from the water fountain in the school hallway, and having the sensation that if I lifted my foot an inch off the floor my teeth would fall out. Had to shuffle all the way to class, where my teacher looked at me like this 🧐 for a solid hour. Hell, I won't even drink more than 2 beers unless I'm at home and reasonably certain that I won't have anything serious to do before I have a nap. 😊
  24. That's probably gonna be too soon for me. I've got family stuff pretty heavy until the 7th-8th when the kids go back to school.
