  1. Why, do you wanna have a finger pecking contest ? Shorter than an Al Agnew fishing report, I can tell you that. I'm fast dude! Took me longer to edit my mistakes than it did to peck it all out.
  2. Fly tying videos can be the most boring thing in existence. Here are a list of things I am sick of hearing.... "This is UTC 140 denier, but you can use whatever thread you like". "Start by pinching down the barb, then put your hook in the vise". "Begin by laying down a nice even thread base". "Attach the dumbbell eyes in a cris-cross pattern, making sure they are straight". "Measure your tail and tie it in so it is the same length as your hook shank". "Be careful around the hook points as it can cut your thread". "Add a 1/2 hitch after this step". "Add another 1/2 hitch after THIS step". "Be sure to add a 1/2 hitch after each step". "Put on a drop of super glue". "Fold your flash material over the thread and guide it into place as you wrap forward". "I like my flashabou to be just a bit longer than the tail....like so". "Watch that hook point, it will cut your thread". "Oh crap, I cut my thread. That's ok I can just wrap right back on over it, it will be fine". "Add another 1/2 hitch". "A piece of Velcro works great for fuzzing up your body". "Now we'll add some eyes. It's important to have your eyes on straight and not uneven". "Now a 5 turn whip finish....and cut your thread". "Spread your acrylic evenly.....then zap it with the light". "You can do these in a variety of color combinations". (The hell you say!) "Thanks for watching". (They never say thanks for listening..... That's what we should be thanked for) 😀
  3. I don't understand why everything is so low, we've had a reasonably wet Summer I thought. I don't ever remember the leaves being this thick on the water during September. It's still green everywhere but yet the rivers I fish frequently have a massive load of leaves.
  4. I have no use for black & blue but I did up one in olive and took it for a test run in the sink. The thing wiggles when it's pulled through the water. Why have I never seen this pattern before!? Unless there are hookup issues this thing should be deadly.
  5. Oh my goodness! I'm a little excited about this one... You bobber guys should jump all over this!
  6. Now THAT I find interesting. I had no idea.
  7. I don't think C&R of walleye will ever become a thing. I know that I myself only get excited about a good sized walleye in the sense of...."Oh, this one is gonna taste GOOD !" If I did much C&R of walleye I probably wouldn't have any fingers left. It's a good thing that I don't catch very many.
  8. Does anybody here know about the Truman "back pump disaster" back in the '70's? I don't, but I've heard about it from the old-timers. Apparently they did some kinda back pump thing to help clear debris at the dam during the walleye migration and ended up hauling out dead fish by the dump truck loads. Lots and LOTS of Walleye. People were outraged and all the old timers HATE Truman dam (and the lake) after that.
  9. No they didn't, or they wouldn't still be stocking hybrid stripers into lakes that have a native White Bass population. Once you jack up the gene pool of native fish there's no fixing it.
  10. I meant to say *stalking* but auto correct apparently doesn't like that word (took me 4 trys to get it THIS time). So anyway... What kind of fish are you persuing? Reds? Tarpon? SHARK!!!?? or just whatever gets ahold of you?
  11. Right on my man! 😀 Here's where the old 25XD resides now Water pump was in great shape but all the water passages in the powerhead were clogged with sand. Cooling water couldn't circulate. Throttle pickup timing and linkage syncronization was off a good bit, so when in the "in gear" WOT position the throttle plate was over-traveling and actually closing off the Venturi on the back side. What that means is that when you were at WOT at the carb the ignition timing hadn't advanced yet, and when timing was fully advanced the throttle plate was going closed again. All is straightened out now. She fires right off with 1/2 a pull and we have her on a 1542, it planes out fine. Everybody is happy on this end. Thanks a bunch.
  12. What are you talking out there? I know nothing about salty fish.
  13. There was one early fall low water year I remember doing pretty good swinging a soft hackle between Sand Springs and the concrete boat ramp. That was before the riffles there were all choked with gravel. Pic sucks, but it was this one right here, I did real well on it for a couple weeks. The thorax is peacock Ice Dub. #14
  14. The ridge bend at Barclay might be good for a couple if Oneshot hasn't already eaten them all. The other 2 places I wouldn't have much faith in unless a good rise happens this week (not looking very likely). Maybe drive down to Corkery and hit that?
  15. Spend the majority of your time with your line in the faster water areas where it's hard to see the bottom. #14 and bigger hotspot nymphs, leeches or buggers. Where you find one you'll usually find several. Are you floating a stretch or just wading in?
  16. My grandpa was a fly fisherman/fly tyer, not exclusively but he did it alot. I sat beside him and prepped his materials when I was a little bitty guy, and he started me on it at very young age. My Dad never fly fished even though I think he actually wanted to, but here was this THING that I could do....and he "couldn't", and he was awesome enough to just let me have that. I didn't have another fly fishing buddy (besides Papaw) until I was 14-15 and then I met a 20 year old dude that was into it pretty good, he and I formed a bond and really tore into it. Along the way we got a couple of other friends hooked on it and together we built a pretty special thing that I give total credit for saving the 4 of us from becoming hopeless drug addicts, alcoholics, and knocking up every girl in town.
  17. Good movie. And I like the after effects because those of us that were fly fishermen before it came out suddenly became way cooler. Prior to the movie we were just weirdo's. I'm a little sour because there was nothing cool about being a Trout Bum when I was one. I was just "a loser that skipped school alot and wouldn't get a job".
  18. Where it all goes bad is when emmission management takes over. A computer can't fix a mechanical problem. Let's say an injector sticks open (or becomes plugged).... The O2 sensor tells the computer that there is an overly rich (or lean) condition so it then alters injector pulse width and ignition timing in an attempt to keep EMISSIONS in check. This is the only thing that matters now....Gotta keep that exhaust clean. If there is a minor failure on one cylinder and the engine continues to run well enough to get you home YOU ARE LUCKY. This crap of designing engine control systems to run CLEAN or not run at all is BS. If I'm paying that kinda money and I need to outrun a storm or get out of a barges way then piss on some clean exhaust....I want that SOB to start and run ! I refuse to pay thousands more than necessary for an engine system that is designed to sacrifice ME AND MY PASSENGERS for the sake of cleaner air. My environmental concern side only goes so far. 4-stroke outboards have the least amount of tolerance in that regard, and that's yet another reason why I will never own one. This is why they refuse to let guys like me have access to the programming side of those ECM's, because I'd change that crap right quick if I could.
  19. Well I like to at least appear that I know what I'm doing. If I huck a plastic worm/craw/fluke on a flyrod I'm not gonna look like I have my $#*+ together at all.
  20. It's getting real close to time for me to bite the bullet and buy the diagnostic equipment for the computer aged engines. Up until now I've managed to troubleshoot 99% of them without having to access the emm/ecu data, but that's going to come to a screaching halt after the G2's, HPDI's, and ProMax's come out of warranty. Beings as how I'm not a "dealer" I don't get a package deal on diagnostic software and connection harnesses. How many sensor or injector swaps is it gonna take to justify spending 12-18k on diagnostic equipment? More than I'll get before the systems are outdated I'm afraid. So until someone like CDI develops a more affordable diagnostic program there are some things that I can't do without the help of some local dealers and the use of their goodies. The relay thing I learned totally by accident. I had an Etec with no spark, my helper turn a key on and instead of the fuel pump coming on I heard a short buzz come from the relay. I popped the relay with a screwdriver handle and the fuel pump kicked on. While the pump was running I did another spark test and SHAZAM! spark was restored. After a bit of study I learned that the relay controlled the ground circuit to both the EMM and the high pressure fuel pump. All relays on all outboards used to be manufactured by "Siemen" here in the U.S., but several years ago they switched to a foreign company called "HELLA", and the HELLA relays sometimes do this vibrating intermittent continuity thing that the Siemen relays never did. Siemen relays do go bad but when they do they are easy to test. HELLA relays will test good...but they often are not because the intermittent continuity thing tricks your digital voltmeter. Ever since I figured that out I have been able to quickly cure 90% of unstable running/starting issues on Etec, Opti, and Merc EFI systems by simply replacing the master relay. Only time will tell if those crappy relays will cause the components behind them to have a shorter life. That continuous broken contact thing can't be good on high pressure pumps and emm/ecm's. Unsteady voltage is bad news on anything electrical.
  21. I can huck a plastic craw on a 8wt....as long as nobody's looking. 😊
  22. I like you enough that I'd take the hit just to keep that nasty drum out of your mouth.
  23. Years ago I teamed up with one of the old guides from around here and we would share info and help each other stay on fish for guide clients. Occasionally we'd go out together and being young and bulletproof I never packed myself a lunch or even anything to drink. He'd stop out in the middle of the lake to take a break and eat, so I was basically forced to join him. Cold coffee, stale saltines, and warm Braunschweiger, every time. My breath would smell worse than a pigs @$$.
  24. I ain't buying it. If you had stayed home and saved the gas, then subtract the wear/tear coefficient on equipment and the soap it took to get the smell off of you, then you coulda bought 3 times the edible weight in premium shrimp.
  25. Dang dude, those are some dinks. 😁
