  1. They need to quit hauling fish around PERIOD. But if they are going to continue doing that stupidity forever then yeah you should have to decide whether each catch is one you want to settle with for your daily total. Once you have thrown 5 in the box then you can just head to the scales. The last really good day I had, if I was in a tournament, I would have relocated 17 bass. The whole argument that "well we aren't killing them so we can do whatever we want" is BS really. What other critter can you do that with? None. I say we start having possum catching contests. We'll catch possums from all over, weigh them, then release them by Oneshots house. I'll open up a Possum Pro Shop !
  2. I use a few 6.3:1 reels for buzzbaits and lipless cranks, everything else gets wound in at 5.3:1 The high speed reels lack the winching power that I like for most of the fishing I do. It's amazing the difference that one piddly revolution of the spool makes.
  3. They could always just say "hey I'm in a tournament, and weigh-in is in 6 minutes. Gotta go, bye!". I mean hell, there's at least one going on darn near every day.
  4. I ain't too sure he didn't ask it to the prom. ?
  5. Northeast corner right under the bridge. Turn in like you're going to Waters Edge motel. It's a steep mother ! I prefer Purvis ramp just a few miles up (lake Rd. 5-29) Red Oak resort is just a mile below the HD bridge on the South side. Good ramp there too.
  6. Dude, don't eat the bass, they are poisonous ! Lot's of poop in the water here.
  7. Cold beer.... ✓
  8. They can't help it....They just don't have the dough. Complaining is the wrong thing to do, and it won't help. You must support their decision and know in your heart that they are doing what's right for all of us. I just recently learned that from the more level headed individuals here on OAF. Before that I was kinda P.O'd about it also. Now I am ok with it. The USGS has way more important things to do, and they are darn near broke.
  9. I wish that was true.
  10. It is an excellent upgrade. Nothing is flakier than light pole sockets. It amazes me that they are even STILL around.
  11. Aarchdale didn't say it. It was his uncle or grandpa, or whoever. So take it up with THEM. It's one thing to say something racist, but when you can't even tell anyone the things that a racist person might say.....Then you're talking to someone whose ears, and brain, are way too tender. At that point the fact that you're offended....Is offensive.
  12. How did you determine the one coil was bad ? Here's why I ask..... If you swapped coil positions and the no-fire/weak fire situation moved with the suspected coil then yes that coil is bad. But if DVA readings weren't taken at the coil primary's then you will eventually burn up the new coil that is installed in the same location. Ignition coils don't just blink out like a lightbulb, they die for a reason. Usually the reason is low primary voltage from the switchbox that causes that particular coil to always run hot. Eventually that extra heat makes it weak. And to compound things even further.... that low switchbox output may be because of low stator output, which was caused from the stator trying to charge a bad battery once upon a time, or trying to charge a battery with a loose or dirty terminal connection. It's a domino effect thing, and unless you get to the deep down heart of the issue then you'll be forever plagued with glitches, and all of your fixes will be temporary. I'm just giving you tips to help save you headaches (and money) down the road. Never change an ignition component without first knowing that the components upstream are 100% doing their job first. Doing so is only a temporary fix. And the cost of all those extra coils (even at a discounted price) is more than the cost of a switchbox.... should you need one. Your Mercury factory manual might not imply that because it is printed by the Mercury factory....And the Mercury factory loves to sell parts ? That's not a conspiracy theory.... That's just the way they roll.
  13. Sounds good. Then can we go drag a worm through some brushpiles and eat messy BBQ ribs in your boat? ?
  14. All new coils? Somebody is getting questionable diagnostics. ?
  15. My eyeballs indicate that their sophisticated techniques mislead them. What else can I say Yeah I know...."how dare I trust my own eyes".
  16. They are fine. Honda's too. But if the only place to get knowledgeable service is at a dealer.....And dealers are 400 miles apart, and go out of business every 2 years.....Well.....
  17. Gee Chief, when there is a bunch of draws and valleys and the lines on the topo don't go like this ^ or this > or this < then guess what? The map is innacurate. Seriously dude, I am so done with you. Hit the Ignore button on me or whatever you have to do.... The crap you are doing with me, here and elsewhere, is beyond creepy.
  18. In the past I have tried to get tech info on Suzuki's and on Honda's but they won't come up off of it. I told them both that they weren't going to sell many of their outboards around here if there was nobody around here to service them, and they acted like their motors weren't going to need any service. Oh Puleeeeze!! What it came down to was they wanted me to dump 3k per year into their training program. My response was "Well why would I do that for a motor that SHOULDN'T EVER need service?". Peckerheads ! Yamaha shares their tech info freely and there should be no problem getting them worked on anywhere. Granted it has to be a dealer if the fix requires accessing the ECU data....But in 20 years I have only had to refer someone to a dealer 4 times. It's very rare.
  19. I don't have time to rebuild it today, besides I may have to order parts for it. Refresh my memory.....What engine is it for? I might have one that I can just swap you out.
  20. Well if you ever decide to come visit me bring your most up to date maps (or we can pull them up) and I'll drive you around and show you substantial errors until you agree to buy some beer and come back to the shop.
  21. Some excellent points there. That's a healthy outlook and attitude for sure. I'm not near as healthy in the head. I am driven to "figure them out" and put together the pattern of the day. Once I feel like I have them dialed in and can almost catch one at will....Then I am satisfied and sometimes even lose the desire to keep catching them. It is the getting to the point where I know I can catch them if I want to that keeps me going. Once there I can go for days/or a week plus, without fishing, and it doesn't bother me. But let something change where I think the pattern may have changed, or the fish moved....and I just gotta get back out there.
  22. Really. They kinda suck for the area around here. It is as if they took the highs and the lows....then guessed at the rest in between. There are valleys and draws that are not indicated on the map, and then there are areas where I think they just assumed a creek ran next to a steep hillside where in real life it meanders out into a low flat area. It also shows that the spot where my house sits is 710' in elevation when according to lake level at full pool I am 744msl Not a big deal but why even put numbers on there if they are innacurate.
  23. It's in the Bible. Don't pretend not to seek more and bigger, Joe.
  24. Your 87 Ranger has a fuse/breaker panel under the console. Just run a single 12v+(red fused) from console to bow to keep it as short as possible. Wire loom is unnecessary, just tie strap it to the bow light wires. Pick up your 12v-(blk) from the black wire at the bow light socket. Or....If you have a trim/tilt switch at the bow you can get 12v there and eliminate having to run unnecessary wiring.
