Oh just stop it ! π

If you twist them they won't split when you wrap the hackle. ππ Hey if this catches them.....And we know it does... Then why wouldn't a Clouser? π€·ββοΈ
-
Ya gotta tell them that, so they don't serve them over rice, or on a cracker π π

The rivers out East are way more rocky and boulder strewn. The Osage and Grand are muddy, silty gar-holes in comparison.

I have..... Unsuccessfully. π€·ββοΈ By all rights it should work GREAT. Especially in places like Taneycomo. Somebody needs to unlock the code there. I haven't been very successful with Clousers on Smallies either, which is totally absurd because that's the fish that initially made that fly famous in the Eastern U.S.

100% accurate!

Wow ! π³

Like I alluded to earlier......I don't think he (himself) knew exactly what he had done when he first started tying the fly. Wiser fishermen than him figured it out though......and made the fly what it TRULY is, or CAN BE. That actually happens a lot in fly design. Without Lefty Krey & Flip Pallet the Clouser Minnow wouldn't be the fly it is today.....and nobody would even know who Bob Clouser is. None of his other "creations" are worth a hoot. Are they?
-
I don't think he did it ON PURPOSE. Most killer fly patterns are happy accidents. Peacock herl just has fish appeal. And 2 toned flys having some contrast just flat catch fish. No denying that. The herl is definitely visible when 3 strands are used. From multiple angles. Matter of fact it is sometimes the last thing a fish sees.....and could possibly seal the deal on whether they bite....or turn and refuse to bite at the last second. How many times have you failed to see a black spot on the other side of a potato chip before you stuck it in your mouth?

I know y'all are gonna blast me for this.....But that video ain't right. π€·ββοΈ I don't even think the originator even realized what he had done.... before he began having his brother & hired hands tie them commercially. #1. The hackle is not supposed to be stripped before tying in.......You just slap it on there, barbs and all......This creates a bit of tail. And hackle should be sized 1.5x the hook gap. #2. Herl is tied in by the butts, 3 of them, and twisted before folding forward so they are bound together, and the fuzz doesn't lay backwards. #3. Hackle is not simply palmered forward 5 turns. You take one full turn.....then palmer 3 turns....then take one full turn before tying off. To anyone that says none of that matters.....I guarantee I can stand right next to you and outfish you, anytime/anywhere that fish are eating Cracklebacks.

LMAO π I bet there isn't but MAYBE one other person that posts on this forum that knows how to tie a REAL Crackleback pattern. A real CB can be completely drowned.....and with a double false-cast will land hook point DOWN.....and can float through an entire drift without sinking, unless pulled under. I see tons of dry-woolies, with peacock herl backs in fly bins, that are being called "Cracklebacks".......That ain't. I'd even challenge any of the boys at feather-craft to tie a REAL one. There's more to it than meets the eye. π

If I slept as much as y'all do, I'd be worthless. π

There are many different ways to fish a Woolybugger. One of those ways is going to catch Brown's on just about any given day. Rainbows may be smashing it on the swing, while Brown's might be crushing it stripped through slack water......or dead drifted in fast water. Not all WB's are created equal either. Size, Color, Beadhead, Lead-wraps, ect. My go-to WB for the Niangua is the same as my go-to on the NFOW or at Taneycomo.....A black/olive #12 with a 3.5mm black tungsten bead. You can't fish it WRONG, but fishing it ONE WAY will always be better. And that can change between lunchtime and evening. Here's a couple of fairly recent Niangua browns π₯° Just to prove that I'm not talking out of my butt π

Every form of "health care" is completely out of control. They schedule appointments for my wife and youngest daughter for the most ridiculous things. They are in & out in less than 10 minutes and the COST (charged to insurance of course) is totally outrageous. Biggest LEGAL scam in the history of man.
-
If by chance everything you've indicated is true......I could have acted as his lawyer, and saved him 8k. π

Well according to you, your life is never-endingπ If that's what you want, then I hope you're right π

Learning Flyfishing by starting with TROUT in moving water is likely the reason 99% of people get frustrated and give it up. Or end up stuck in the outlets with no confidence to go elsewhere . If you start out chasing bluegill or pond bass......and then graduate to TROUT you'll be more likely to stick with it and actually get good at it.

Leading up to Christmas Day everyone is prancing around like happy little angels. All the 27 totes full of decorations come out of the attic, the yard ornaments get assembled, staked down, and plugged in, the tree gets decked out.... it's a process that takes over 2 weeks to complete. After Christmas everyone turns into angry asshats. While all of the "decorations" (now referred to as "Christmas $#!t") gets taken down, stuffed back into totes and carried back to the attic. There's no LOVE apparent around here anymore. Nobody is cooking because they've all burnt themselves out on preparing meals.....so you're on your own picking through left overs. Nothing a guy can do brings a smile to anyone's face. Life sucks now, and it will continue to suck for at least another week probably. And the worst part is that I personally funded all of this malarkey. π I want my money back ! Jesus who ? π

....to list all the things I hate about Christmas ? π 'cuz I really need to vent π₯΄

A 5wt. setup is going to do it all. Line brand/type is going to depend on which rod you choose. Faster rods perform best with different lines than slower rods. Cheap lines are a disaster, they coil up like an old school phone cord and don't float, shoot, and mend well. Rio Grand (for faster rods) or Rio Gold (for slower rods) is my personal recommendation, but there are others.....you just gotta get to know them. Leaders can make or break your experience.....and for that you're just going to have to experiment on your own....and decide. Tippet sizes of 4x, 5x and 6x are all you need. Use split shot in sizes BB, 1, and 4 to get your flys down when you need to. I'm 5'11" and like a 8'6" rod for trout fishing. If you're 6'3" then you'll probably want a 9 footer....but if you want a well balanced 5wt. in 9ft. you're gonna have to spend some money. Cheap 9-foot 5wt's are tip-heavy beasts that aren't very enjoyable to fish with. Choose a reel that balances the rod well. As for flys..... Woolybuggers in dark earthy colors, and Cracklebacks in sizes #14-10 are where to start. Don't worry about changing flys until you feel like you've mastered the Woolybugger/Crackleback game ! Because that's going to be your fallback when nothing else is working. Stay away from the OUTLETS.....Learn to catch fish in fast shallow riffles, slow deeper runs, and slick deep pools.

Indian build little fire, sit way up close. White man build BIG FIRE, stand WAY BACK.

I had a tungsten C-rig weight split in two, mid-cast, and backlashed a spool full of 15# fluorocarbon to the point I had to just take a knife and hack it into pieces. That was the end of my tungsten egg & worm sinker use. They'll shatter if you hit a dock, or a rock with them.

I like 'em. What's the cost of those 1/2 oz. Jigs ? And do ya have 3/4oz. ? Gotta try them π
