  1. Yeah, bring on the rain (plenty of it) and dump Truman.... we need some dang water !
  2. Oh, well then..... no problem unless you're worried about a scratch or two. Throw down a old piece of carpet or something.
  3. One of these... ...with a few rocks in it makes a dandy anchor too, its weightless until I need it and always in the canoe. Just add a piece of rope.
  4. Made from an old paddle, a few bolts and a Anchormate.... Works like a charm but I never did use it as much as I thought I was going to, and now I don't even bother taking it along.
  5. The hardware store nearest you probably has nylon bushings that work great in place of drilled wooden dowl rod.... no squeaks either. I do have a removable anchor system that I configured, it works great but I hardly ever use it. I'll snap a few pics of it here in a bit.
  6. That's what I'm talkin about. There were already laws, regs, and codes in place before that latest sewage mishap down by Chief's place..... Did anyone get in trouble for it? Was there even a "serious investigation"? I was under tge belief that structures containing hazardous waste are supposed to be built to codes that ensure it can withstand a potential 10 year flood situation. And if it isn't then Heads Should Roll ! There are faulty structure mishaps all the time, and heads never roll.
  7. Was the ramp completely shut down, or just the courtesy dock being replaced?
  8. I wonder how many crawdads got eradicated by sewage or chemical spills in the last year ? Way more died from that than at the claws of the killer craws from Arkansas I betcha. But when their all dead and gone and the smallmouth have had to evolve into midge feeders, we'll blame the Rusty Craw. Amazing!
  9. ...... and meanwhile, raw sewage dams break (oh that's no biggie!) And dead fish litter the James and elsewhere for miles, and that generates no concern whatsoever, from anyone. Just blows my simple little mind.
  10. I guess I am the only one who is admittedly annoyed by the re-making of all these fresh new (yet old) rules and laws. Just in fairly recent days there have been "new regs" announced that..... Make glass on the rivers illegal.....Yet LITTERING has been illegal forever ! Duh ! So WTF? It's like saying " oh ok fine, you can litter, as long as it's not GLASS". Then there was this whole felt boot malarky in which they said " This is a real serious thing here, felt tranports didy molecules....but were gonna give you about oooooh let's see, about 8 months to stop wearing felt". Am I seriously the only one that can detect the stupidity there? I'll skip a few equally crazy ones since I think I've either made my point or shown my a$$ and move on to this crawdad thing.... I truly couldn't care less about what the baitshops are allowed to sell because I neither own a baitshop, nor fish with live bait. But I am increasingly disturbed by this constant and seemingly unstoppable movement to outlaw everything short of sitting in front of a television, when the crap they are patting themselves on the back for outlawing has been a unpoliced no-no for as long as I can remember. And I'm just guessing here, but I bet that it's still ok to sell piranha, and it's still ok to experiment and transport genetically twisted bluegill, and release broodstock walleye that have been pumped full of growth hormones. Bon apatite!
  11. Unless you wanna fish from a kneeling position a reversed transom mount isn't gonna cut it.....shaft lengths aren't available that are long enough. A more permanent foot control setup is what you'll need. If your fishing time will typically be short (a few hours a day) a 54# 12v TM will keep a 24' toon positioned pretty well. I have a clamp on unit that I use just to move toons with motor problems onto trailers for service and it does a fine job of pushing them around.
  12. I'm not insinuating that it couldn't become a problem, just curious (as with the didymo deal) why it hasn't ALREADY become a problem. Are there currently any streams void of its native craws? Because folks have been relocating crawdads for a lot of years.....long enough I would think to have already caused the disaster they are all of a sudden fearful of. That's all.
  13. Think I could get a 2 mil grant to look into it?
  14. Well yeah, I mean we all have to do our part to keep the economy rolling, right? All those people sitting on their money and not spending it is what's wrong with the world today......Keep that cash movin'!
  15. Here's my checklist for fly reel selection, in order of importance. #1. The weight of the reel loaded.... it needs to balance the rod in a way that feels best to you, so you can cast better and enjoy using it. #2. Smooth operation, no noisy clickers, and close enough tolerances between frame/spool that it won't pinch and damage your fly line. #3. I like a meaty handle, some reels (even really expensive ones) have gay little knobs for crank handles....I want something I can get ahold of. #4. Drag adjustment that doesn't easily get knocked off its setting, ..some will get knocked 3 clicks off by a stiff breeze. #5. Cost and overall looks (if it looks cool and you can afford it, you should own it.
  16. In your (and my) case, lets refer to it as a "depth finder", and LETS USE IT ! At least until the warranty period has expired on that fresh set of gears
  17. The ONLY way to go for a basic jon layout, IMO http://www.basspro.com/RAM-Mountsreg;-Universal-Ball-Socket-Electronics-Mount-for-Lighter-Weight-Units--Rectangular-Mounting-Plate--RAM-B-111/product/98613/120121?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT
  18. Oh for the love of Pete ! This whole moving around of crawdads has been going on since the invention of the wheel... and now all of a sudden it's a big deal? Reminds me of the didymo BS. I think we have too many scientists looking for things to keep themselves busy. Why don't they all get together and concentrate on cleaner and more affordable energy and leave the piddly s#!t to the next generation of poindexters ?
  19. Probably. There is one thing I remember about Rr's and it is that the body of the grub needs to be kinda thin. If you add a thick bodied grub to it, it has a tendency to roll over on its side alot. Not a big deal if you are fishing them painfully slow, but if you are using them for smallies or whites it's nice to be able to speed things up a bit. Southern Pro makes some grubs and tubes that are perfect for them.
  20. There's a little something going on at Lincoln univ. in JC with genetically altered bluegill intended as a commercial food source, If I understood right I believe one of their strains is hermaphroditic. Now how long do you suppose it'll be before some of those "projects" find their way into waters that they weren't intended for? If they haven't already, that is.
  21. Hey, who hacked my dung ? I did not give my permission to have "Mo.Smallmouth Challenge" shoved into my signature. WTF? Someone please rid me of that ! Kayaks are for dickheads like biggiesmalls
  22. They can survive our Winters they just can't sustain themselves naturally because all the eggs would be of tbe same sex. The temperature of the egg determines male/female. Isn't that correct? Where's our community herpatologist ?
  23. LOL Yeah me either, a 10 incher usually feels like a 2lber.
  24. It's becoming somewhat obvious to me that they occasionally stock hybrids into certain places and don't particularly like to announce it. I can understand that for the most part but I don't see why they couldn't just make them C&R in the areas where they don't want them removed.
  25. Running a jet through tricky spots, or running as far up a creek as your balls will let you is a cool rush, just like hill climbing on dirt bikes or mud-running in a badass 4x4. Nobody but a total candyass can resist pushing it to the limit, especially when the fishing is slow.
