  1. I'm not afraid of barbless hooks, but all my flies have barbs. I prefer smaller barbs like TMC's have vs. the outrageous ones on most Mustad fly hooks..... but Mustads are a bargain, so I deal with it and haven't suffered noticeably. Almost hate to burn bread on myself by saying this but; I'm pretty good (or lucky) about keeping hooks out of my own body.
  2. That's Lowe's factory mount? Ug! I hate it. I think you could fabricate something way better than that, even if you had to use a piece of 2X8 treated lumber.
  3. LOL, I caught that earlier, but I was gonna wait until he fired back to set him straight. See how I roll?
  4. I understand the situation, but if you mount it canted towards the bow center then it'll be hanging out over the port gunnel when its in the stowed position. Knowhatimean? Some people just live with that, but it would drive me crazy.
  5. One of my customers has a 17' Mako flats skiff that I've been trying to finaggle him out of for several years, he never uses it and that just drives me crazy..... I NEED that boat!
  6. Stalcup's Crazy dad is the one I've settled on, it's the only crawdad pattern I carry, but I have a hard time detecting bites with crawdad flys fished along the bottom. A big #4 rabbit strip leech will kill'em on the Salt..... probably better on any given day than any crawdad type fly. With the added plus that channel cat will eat them regularly too.
  7. Yeah, a FLYFISH friendly boat. Most bassboats have too many "attachments" (seats, cleats, ect.) and make flyfishing out of them a nightmare. I have a 16' Lowe Olympic jon specifically rigged for flyfishing and out of all the boats I've had it is by far my favorite, I've had more FUN in it within a years time than all the other boats combined.
  8. I've heard that there's a lake up by Marysville where catching Musky's are pretty common. Other than that I guess Pomme de Terre,
  9. Attach with 3/16 rivets and back them up with aluminum washers. Before mounting and drilling stick strips of step traction coveringon the mount so that you have a gasket between the mount and the boat....quiets things down alot, and keeps it from vibrating loose. Mounting off center on the Port side is the way to go. A center mounted TM is ALWAYS in the way when pulling up to a bank, when getting in and out, and when trailering.
  10. LMAO! Wake up, Pete! Somebody fell in the sauce last night, didn't they?
  11. If it ever takes off I'd do it. I would prefer a draw type format and paper score though, instead of a weigh-in. (Scoring in inches rather than pounds).
  12. While you're getting MVP's expert analysis, ask him when the last time he actually waded a trout stream was.
  13. You'll be here in time for the suspending jerkbait bite, and when that starts to peter out the crawdad crankbait/jig bite will take front seat. Steep South facing banks in March, then more gentle sloping gravel/chunk mix banks as April nears. Pay particular attention to spots where you catch keeper fish and search out similar spots elsewhere. Good luck, and Welcome to The Lake
  14. facebook? Be glad to help, but I don't belong to that data-mining op. Ya reckon congressmen actually play on there, or just have someone else do it in their behalf?
  15. I was born/raised on the Salt watershed, Elk and Middle fork are excellent fishing rivers. Smallies? Yep, plentiful, fat and healthy.....but they aren't just everywhere. Float through the mudbank areas and fish the scattered rocky spots, you'll find bronze. The water color during late Spring is perfect for bass buggin'...and yeah I know the wading is a bit creepy at first, but you get used to it after a season or two. The cool thing about those lazy rivers, and what I miss the most about them is that its as easy to navigate upstream as it is downstream, making same-site floats a breeze. I really need to get back up there for awhile to revisit my old stomping grounds.
  16. Looks pretty good, kinda Deceiver'ish. Here's one though that I think makes the best use of craft fur that I've ever seen http://caseysmartt.com/2010/08/01/tying-the-deadhead-minnow/ I've tied a few (piece of cake) but havent fished one yet...however, I have a real good feeling about them.
  17. Yes! Looking forward to another year of craziness. Coolest bunch of Honey badgers I've ever known. Excellent work Ronnie!
  18. Just put a piece of sausage on your head, and we'll know who you are.
  19. You wont find an accurate topo map of lake O. The old yellow Structure Graphic paper maps were the closest but they have become hard to find. All the others are based off the same contours as the hotspot maps and they are so far off its crazy.
  20. Now there's a topic that hasn't been covered before. J/K
  21. Its possible that the swept clean spots you saw are Sucker troughs. Hard to say without knowing exactly where they were. I've never seen any active redds on the Niangua, and honestly I can only think of a handful of places between the Spring branch and NRO where it would be likely to see one. I have caught a few par marked little squirts, and I dont doubt that some successful hatching happens occasionally.
  22. You either have a low/or bad battery, a voltage loss between the battery and the starter, or a bad starter. If you have a digital voltmeter on hand I can talk you through the troubleshooting. Hang on to that old solenoid, they are easily overhauled... could have saved you 37.90
  23. I'm reasonably convinced that there WAS a cougar initially, but things (ie; people) went a little crazy in the days following.... as always happens in cases like this I'm sure. A little bit of small town drama + a bunch of bored people = Impending disaster and escalating drama. As ticked off as I am I can't deny that I knew the crap was going on, and I even made the comment that "I hope one of these idiots doesn't shoot my dog"... the very day before it happened. I should have put him on lockdown until the $#!t blew over. I just underestimated the stupidity of these jackasses. Never again!
