  1. LMAO, This was a fun thread to catch up on Speaking of extreme groups whatever happened to the WFT bunch? I used to love hearing about their trips, and the bone chilling pics were amazing. I used to steal them for screen savers. You boys haven't all gotten old and soft have ya?
  2. Concerning the words spoken to the deputy and landowner..... How do you think this situation would have turned out if the floaters simply did not speak or respond to them at all? They aren't required to ya know. My guess is that if the floaters ignored them as if they were deaf, the deputy would have really made a serious mistake that would have ended his career. So, while the "smartass comment" might rub a few of you the wrong way, it should have indicated to the deputy(a person somewhat trained in human reaction) that this person truly believes that he is in the right....and is being wrongfully harrassed. But no, the deputy was not paying attention, plus he allowed the landowner to threaten someone....He was not doing his job properly at all. And it IS a potentially serious job to have. Me thinks he should stick to being a security guard at a warehouse somewhere and leave upholding the law to those properly trained to do it.
  3. Guy brings a mess of fish home...from wherever, cleans them, then pitches the guts over the nearest bridge... 1. Because he doesn't want to attract every possum and buzzard in the county to his back 40. 2. He thinks he is doing something decent by feeding the turtles and coons. Better than pitching them in a ditch along a county road. They'll be gone after the next rain. He probably disposed of his deer carcass the same way, last November.
  4. Yeah, I was expecting a followup post like that too.
  5. Apply for a regatta permit and host a shad tournament. Maybe that'll satisfy the legal beagles. ? We're talking SHAD here. A species that tax dollars are spent to try and control. Sheesh, let someone that's laid off from their job get the guy some darn bait.
  6. Id be suprised if the AG would indicate that you were unlawfully harrassed by a LEO.... whether you were or not. Id expect the AG to give you the tired old "gray area" speech.... but of course you could point out that "gray" should mean neutral... and it ceases to be neutral when forced action is taken upon one of the parties. This could be a popcorn post.
  7. Was anyone cited for trespassing ? If not then you were legal....and the deputies were just keeping the cranky landowner in their side of the ballot box, by ushering you downstream. That's the way I would interpret it
  8. Thanks Dutch, we'll give them a call. Thank you too Rick, it's good to be back..... t'was a long Winter.
  9. The spiral "whalen" wrapped rods were a short lived rage here at LO in the early 90's. Pulling one out of a rodbox is a character building experience.
  10. Where could a person buy a rear hub for a tandem axle Nitro trailer (hub/brake rotor assembly) ? Thx, Wrench
  11. At least there are a FEW people on the planet that understand why I refuse to diagnose ignition problems and/or pull flywheels over the water.
  12. Does LP not have a Stream Team assigned to it ? If not it sounds like it could use one. Let the ol'gal run off a Stream Team group and maybe someone with a badge will set her straight. Afterwards maybe she'd like to join.
  13. K, Carry on
  14. What's this ? The shad are just now starting to get dizzy here. Sounds like the Winter Smallie Guru could use a L.O. guru..... Maybe we could work sumthin' out
  15. Fish are being caught, and some "units" at that. Everyone I've talked to that has spent a day on the water lately has had at least one fish over 4 lbs. A good bite on heavy jigs are what I'm hearing about most, bites are in 12-18ft. Crappie are still doing good and a jerkbait bite is starting to develop on them. Ice may or may not be an issue above the Coffman area tomorrow, hard to say. Today it is clear to the mouth of Mill and possibly Indian, but Soap is locked in pretty good.
  16. Hu uh, Flyfishing is an investment in your spirit. BOATS is where you're money goes to die.
  17. It's hard to tell sometimes (if it's on a hoist) unless you can get your head down there and inspect it real good. Mercs and Yammi's tend to bust the bearing carrier retainer and shove the propshaft backwards when they freeze, so the first thing you notice by looking closely at it is a gap between the prop and the housing. Johnson/Evinrudes tend to split out the side of the housing (mid-bullet)when they freeze. Loose fishing line (especially braid) is the biggest causes of seal failure, it gets wrapped around the propshaft and cuts into the propshaft seal. And there's tons of mono and braid drifting around out there.
  18. Billfo, I get alot of requests to change gear lube over the water but I simply will not do it. I know that it is an inconvienience but I recommend hauling it out on a trailer over dry land to drain the gearcase. It is near impossible to avoid loosing some into the water when attempting to do it while the boat is up on a hoist, and one tablespoon of 90W gear lube will make an oil slick as big as your living room. The fines for that, should you get caught, are hefty. Another note: You should always change your gear lube in the Fall before freezing weather hits so that if there's any water in your gearcase you can deal with it before it freezes and busts the housing.
  19. How do you know what you need.... before you need it ?
  20. What's the hairyest task anyone has completed using only their multi-tool ? I installed a screen door with mine once. R&R and Overhauled a garbage disposal. Swapped out a set of trailer lights (harness and all). Lots of ABU Garcia Ambassador 5000 and 4600C overhauls... I can field strip a 4600C quicker than a jackrabbit on a date with my leatherman The can opener on that leatherman Rocks !
  21. HA !!! If I wasn't behaving myself on OAF right now I could have a field day with that one.
  22. I've seen career criminals do some really good things before too. That's the difference between a "career criminal" and just a plain ol'criminal.
  23. A lady up the road from me was always bragging at church about how many Crappie she was catching ("spent 3 hours everyday this week cleaning fish", ect. ect.). So one of the other church members hotlined her. A MDC agent backed-up with a deputy sheriff stormed her house and learned one of two things.. 1. Fisher-women tend to exagerrate too. or 2. it takes her 6 hours to fillet one crappie. She had one bowl soaking in the fridge with 6 fillets in it. And as a side note: I hear the piano at the church needs dusting.
  24. You forgot... ... "and just dump all the currently housed trout stock into the rivers and call it a day. If they make it and start reproducing... GREAT, if not... Too bad !"
