  1. That stinks ! I've worked really hard at getting one of those streams designated, so that some regulation concerning "use" could begin before it's too late. Now it looks like they are completely out of the park now. I wonder why our Stream Team higher-ups didn't pass that memo down to us ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Venting Sarcasm below.... They forgot to list the streams actually shitcanned under.... criterion #9 Streams dropped from consideration under criterion 9: are cleverly listed under other criterions, but because of a few influential landowners with signifacant county "pull", and our fear of stepping on their toes regardless of the fact that they have raped enough resources from the drainage area to retire happily to any destination of their choosing.....Are nevertheless being cancelled for any further SBB MANAGEMENT AREA consideration. Areas cancelled under criterian #9 include: GRAVOIS CREEK That's the kind of straightforward talk I'd prefer to hear, ya know.... the truth. DAMMIT ! (sorry phil)
  2. There is "catch and release hunting", in the form of wildife photography. And if you use a Zoom lense of more than 4x you're a putz
  3. I'm the type that would leave you after the first 30 minutes, and let you find your own ride home.
  4. Me too, and take pride in it
  5. I think Eric simply voiced a thought that almost everyone here had. But in this PC arena some are pretending to be absolutely appalled by it. Lighten up for Pete's sake. If I caught a state record using an "indicator", there's about 30 guys I'm aware of that would run me through the ringer, and rib me at every oppurtunity. I think he made a good point when he said... How full of it are you, if you stand behind a curtain and redicule someone for saying out loud what you yourself think...or have thought ? Nobody is taking anything away from the man that caught the record fish. But do we wish he had caught it stripping a PMS after dark at Rebar.......darn straight.
  6. IMO the angler is due sincere congrats. The net man...you GOTTA respect. And if it was me I would have kept the fish, without question. I'm sure there's a lot of pounder Rainbows that are REAL glad he got kept
  7. Yep, my daughter and one of her friends stood on one of the handicapped jetty's and caught a dozen or more on a John Deere mini-jig just dipping it around in the boulders there, and were putting them in a bucket. I made them quit and release them because I wasn't sure it was cool to be doing that. Although I wouldn't mind trying them for bait on a few holes in Z3
  8. Spring river is reasonably close. Although I've never fished it so I don't know much about the hiking/camping in the area. The fishing is reportedly pretty decent though.
  9. Now that you mention it, you DO look a little pale When we were kids we used to drink out of the town branch (looked clear and didn't taste bad). When I think about the source, and where that water came from it amazes me that I'm alive to tell about it.
  10. Eric, That's a trout boner
  11. Holy cow ! What do they feed those fish at RR ? That place is fast becoming the Dry Run Creek of Missouri. Congrats on a killer day
  12. Well, I don't know about all that (j/k).... But Congratulations all the same. Sounds like a healthy youngun. Bottoms-up !
  13. Wow, I wish we could have a slightly larger sliver of that kinda stocking...for the trout holding portion of the Niangua. What that would do for the area would be amazing.
  14. Here's a few links that kind of tell the story of what the corporation does for the builders within it's group. http://www.ababoats.com/ http://www.genmar.com/aboutus/history.cfm
  15. Do you know what boat building company(s) operate free of corporate backing ? Aside from the fact that all companies (and corporations) in this nation (from Rusty's bait shop and Howdy-Doody Plumbing, to Microsoft and Ford motor co.) all operate under the ceiling of of one mega-giant....called the Federal Government. Accounting and stock holder groups have no effect on individual design and quality between companys. A Genmar aquisition does not grant every builder within the Genmar group free reign to all designs and patents of the others listed under the group. So if Gatorjets Ranger salesman squirms when asked that, it should only be because he's not in the mood to spend an hour trying to explain it to someone.
  16. We do. With intricate directions on how to tye them, and everything. Scroll down to Fly Recipes
  17. #1 is a pound and a half #2 is within an ounce +/- of 2lbs, even. #3 is right at 4 lbs. (look at the head on him though, Geeze) #4 is just a touch over 5 You had a good day man. Good job !
  18. Killer display by all. I bet everyone here has had a spoonbill in their living room at one time or another. Somewhere I have a pick of myself and a couple buddies sitting on the couch cleaning a huge mess of bullfrogs on our coffee table. Why we elected to undertake that task inside the house...totally escapes me. No wonder I've been divorced twice.
  19. You mean there really ARE browns in the Niangua ?
  20. Thank you Sir, one of my favorites.
  21. Well thank you. And yeah I do tend to bust my leash when attempting to make a point sometimes. Exactly. Besides putting trout in places where they really don't belong might implant a false perception to young would-be anglers.... Next thing you know they might be "trout fishing" in the Missouri river oxbows....and they won't understand why they can't catch one there. Looks like trout water to them, right ? A huge part of a youngster learning to be a outdoorsman is understanding and recognizing different types of habitats and the critters that can exist (or be found) in each of them.
  22. Chief, if you liked my spin on free pie, you'll love my spin on the urban trout program..... I live in mid-missouri and the odds that I'll ever get to travel to Africa to hunt monkeys, elephants and wapahickiti's (wtf?) is extremely remote. They should bring us some, so that our children will get a chance to experience stalking and tracking these majestic animals. My point : Those city dwelling kids care about as much about trout as I do about their malls, skater parks, and video games. I've experienced all three of those things, and really wouldn't be bothered if I never saw another one. I've also been to dozens of urban nature centers, and unless there's a forced field trip scheduled the places are practically empty. So although I think it is all a sweet little idea, I really don't think those people are inspired by any of it....and I'm good with that.
  23. I was gonna say that, but I figured there was an aesthetic motive involved.
  24. That will likely be the saddest thing I hear today
