I like the Jersey/hoodie idea. That's a perfect trophy. Bass, bluegill, crappie, white bass, catfish.....whatever..... I'm in. Is it going to always be "biggest single fish" ? Or could it possibly be a race to 50 (or 100) inches, or something along those lines, where it would last, however many days, until someone hit the mark. My mind is a raging torrent...... π

All public waters π I wanna get beat by a 28" 14 pounder! π

You need a helicopter for THAT shuttle.

You realize that he wasn't trying to EAT that Torpedo, right? π

Yeah I'm glad I stayed strictly in the service business and never made the grand slam jump into a dealership. Tech classes are still on the future schedule so BRP fully intends to continue parts sales and service bulletins for many years to come. Evinrude outboards will be around for quite some time yet. You don't have to be NEW to be awesome. π

They attempted a line of 4-strokes under the Johnson name, by teaming up with Suzuki....and then Tohatsu, but that all went bad so they cut ties with the Japs and just let the Johnson name go away. Everyone talks crap about the FICHT era, but the design wasn't much different from the Etec design of today (or yesterday). None of the 4-6 cylinder outboards, regardless of brand, that were produced during the big emissions squeeze (2001-2006) were very reliablle, but you can blame 80% of that on the popularity of the HOTFOOT throttle control that became popular about the same time. Boats don't coast like cars do, and marine engineers never took into consideration that if an accelerator pedal was installed that people were going to attempt to drive their boats like they do their cars/trucks.... therefore testing was never done in that fashion during development.

I got fed a meal of bear meat once. If I hadn't been told differently I would have thought it was roast beef.

Still the best plan in boating, regardless. I am being assured that aquiring parts in the future is NOT going to be a problem.

"Innovative projects" π€ I'm asking about the availability of parts in the future. I'm almost afraid to get a reply.

Evinrude E-tec
fishinwrench replied to Zach Davenport's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I love the Etec motors, but as much as we all love new technology there is still a place for simple carbureted 2-strokes, and IMO that is in the 6-25 hp zone. There's just no need, or desire, to overcomplicate an engine that only produces 25hp or less. And there are plenty of them around that can be bought reasonably and fixed up good as new. -
Either way would be cool with me, but I liked knowing that I needed a 19.5 or better. I sight fished that 18.5 that I posted on the last day. They always look bigger in the water, and I was just certain that pig was 20-21". I camped out on her for almost 2 hours, teasing her with tubes, lizards, jigs, wacky Senko, a Fluke, a Super Spook, and a hollow bodied frog....then FINALLY I killed a spinnerbait and let it flutter down on her nest in a Hail Mary attempt, after all of that, and she slurped it in blades, frame, and all. π

Above Moon Valley, or below Prosperine. But the shuttling isn't very convenient.

I like that idea. π Just keep the money out of it and I don't think you'll ever have to screen much for fudging. Surely everyone knows there are way easier ways to make a few bucks than winning a fishing derby. π Saturday evening I would have given 50.00 for a bag of Zoom Critter craws.

I definitely could have avoided 2-3 flops off the board and under the console if I had left my hand on them. Soon as I removed my hand and attempted to frame the pic.....there she'd go. π I'm sure alot of it is my landing technique when competing. I take one good look to see if they're stuck solid....and if they are, it's coming in the boat lickety-split. π The result is a very pissed off and highly active fish. Had alot of fun, let's do it again ! π

Thanks Wrench! π Definitely was close and looked like it could go either way. Yeah I wouldn't have wanted to call that one. Hats off to the judges π I love competitive fishing, but I absolutely hate removing fish from their home area unless I plan to eat them. There's one thing about this format that I wanna point out. I tournament fished for a long time and my "style" is to get them in the boat LIKE NOW! But that isn't the way to play when scoring this way, because getting a good pic of a good measurement on a HOT FISH is a PIA and isn't good for the fish at all. I chased a couple of those fish all over the boat, and I gotta admit that they were out of the water longer than they should have been......and that just ain't cool. I can't imagine trying to do it in a friggin kayak ! So Whaddaya Do? either play them out so they are more exhausted, keep a hand over them (which IMO ruins the pic), .....or what? Weighing (MLF style) is obviously the best way to play this game, if we're going to do right by the fish.

Good job, Bill ! ππ It was a blast.

I haven't had a bone-in pork chop for years. It's like they just don't cut meat like that anymore.

Did my best to catch a 20+ but couldn't pull it off. I'm wicked on the 16-18's right now thoughπ Biggest this evening Rode out one hell of a storm earlier. Wow! π² The fish here on my end of the lake have NOT spawned, in spite of what everyone is saying. It's gonna happen within the next week or so I think. I lost count on the number of 15"+ keepers because the storm freaked me out a bit. 12-14 I think (in 5 hours). At 3 hours in I swung #9 in the boat and declared myself a HAMMER! π
-
I'm having a blast. I have only been out from 5pm until right before dark each day. If it doesn't blow in a big nasty storm I'll give it one last try tonight. Really wanna hit 20".....and I know she's there. π
