  1. Oh great I get to tell my coyote story! So we were camped at Mountain creek on the Niangua and my wife's niece was there with her baby (I don't know how old exactly, but not walking yet). The baby wasn't happy and had been squalling awhile. She had been fed, burped, and all that other baby crap so they were doing the "just let her cry" thing. There were 5 of us grown-ups at the camp but that didn't stop the 5 or more coyotes from moving right in on us. Waving my arms and yelling "Get outa here" as mean as I could didn't bother them one bit, and neither did two of us throwing rocks. Those suckers wanted at that baby! The 10 minute standoff with those scurvy basturds was really freaky and changed the way I feel about coyotes. It was as if the 5 we could see were preoccupying us so that one of the others could slip in from behind and snatch that little squaller. Eventually they just eased back into the woods but I sure didn't get the impression that they truly left. They (the wife's niece and company) had just come down to our campsite to hang out for the evening so I was glad when they left and went back home. I would have been nervous as hell all night if they had stayed.
  2. Oh here we go with that $#it again. Getting a feel for interest prior to production. No guts!
  3. Squirrel tail hair is slick and doesn't soak up color very well. Not sure how companies like Wapsi get them dyed but I'm gonna say that you'll be money and hassle ahead to just buy them. Seriously, how many flys do you expect to go through? Squirrel tails from Wapsi or Hareline are cheap as hell.
  4. I dunno man. They've got the "ploppers" running in opposite directions so there's obviously been some thought and testing involved. Pretty sure I'm gonna have to have a couple of them. Problem I'm running into right now is finding where to buy them. Any leads?
  5. If you haven't thrown a COG Head Knocker buzzbait then you haven't experienced buzzbait fishing. That thing looks pretty cool though, no doubt it'll get bit, especially in clearer water.
  6. The ones being used up here are bigger than 4", they are almost 3" wide and 6" long. The same fish that are hitting those things will hit a heavy jig with a flapping trailer or a 10" worm stroked more readily (and actually EAT IT) so I guess I really don't see the point of all this spoon fascination.
  7. I have an Extreme Sharpie in red. I might try that on a DD22.
  8. There ya go..... Now, do you wanna go ahead and say what you REALLY wanted to? Something along the lines of: "#&@% him, who cares who he thinks is phoney". I'll fish and/or hang out with anyone here. I can read between the lines, but it's a little more relaxing and fun if I don't have to.
  9. I can't for the life of me understand people that would rather just not HEAR what someone is truly thinking. The only difference between guys like me and guys like Ham is that I just go ahead and say what I'm thinking, rather than saying one thing while truly thinking something else. Phoney people who are sneaky with their actual thoughts kinda scare me. Who knows what kinda dasterdly crap they are capable of. I'd rather be genuine and risk offending someone than to play word/head games. It's my opinion that folks who spare you their honest thoughts on a subject are doing so believing that they are "smarter/sharper" than you are, so a pandered response is a greater insult than anything. It shows that a person believes in their heart that there is nothing worthwhile to be learned from you, about anything. If you're gonna share your thoughts then SHARE YOUR REAL ONES. Doing otherwise is a waste of time, is it not?
  10. I have fished the park during free fish wknd before and don't remember it being too crazy. All the manicured spots that are easy to get to will be crowded but areas like the High-bank hole probably won't be. Most of the insanity goes on in the store and parking lots.
  11. No sloppiness or sooty buildup under the cowling? (Signs of a bleeder or bypass hose leaking, or an exhaust leak).
  12. Is it constant in rhythm or does it change with the RPM ? Hard to guess without hearing it since the description "ticking/clicking/knocking" can mean different things to different people. Is there any dampness or oily slop building up in the lower cowling anywhere ? Any fine dark powdery stuff covering anything under the cowling? If spark plugs have ever been changed were they properly indexed ? (They have to end up pointing a certain way or combustion/ignition will be erratic and can cause odd exhaust noise). Sometimes a person trying to index the plugs will have one or more kinda loose because they wouldn't index properly when fully tightened....so check to see if a plug is loose.
  13. Well a small block Chevy redlines at about 5000 right ? Much more than that and it's gonna be screaming and begging for mercy.
  14. It says that the Defendant appeared and was fined 108.50 Wow. No wonder he's still at it.
  15. So if you're starving to death the cost of a Subway sandwich should automatically go up 600% ? I don't think so. I'm not saying that I wouldn't pay it (if I had it) but I maintain that it's wrong to do that.
  16. Did we ever get a name on this guy? I'd like to check the docket report and see if that's truly the way his case was handled. Folks have been busted with a few too many crappie and not gotten off that easy.
  17. Just for the hell of it I searched the web for an Airboat tech training course......There ain't none. So this is some old school Rube Goldberg nigger-riggin' at its finest. (Yes I just said "nigger". Get over it).
  18. And for good reason. They spend more time "broke" than they do running.
  19. There is a service bulletin on 88-91 2 and 3 cylinder powerheads. If the indicator nipple is on the lower exhaust cover plate it needs to be plugged and a hole drilled and tapped into the top of the cylinder block to accept the nylon nipple. BUT I've actually gotten around this by simply replacing the indicator hose with one long enough to route up and over the top of the cylinder head. The problem with the low hose is that it can allow an air pocket to form at the top of the water cavity near the thermostat. Routing the hose over the top causes the water to seek that level and fill the air pocket. The REAL problem is that the 3 bladed impeller produces enough volume but not enough pressure.... but for some reason the designers feel that moving the nipple is the best fix, rather than redesigning the impeller. Whatever.
  20. 1400 is too high. Shifting into gear at that RPM (which will be about 1000 in the water) is gonna torture your gears and driveshaft splines. Either the control linkage isn't going fully back to the stops, or your fuel system is too lean....which will cause a poor hole shot and eventually a scored cylinder. Yeah, fuel quality is a crap shoot but you can only control so much. I buy all my fuel from a small convenience store in a podunk town and I can honestly say that I've never gotten bad fuel there. Stations that sell greater volumes SHOULD be even better, but ya never know.
  21. How the hell can a syringe full of ANYTHING cost 6000 bucks? Did they have to send a team of scientists to the plains of Indonesia to extract fresh tears from a living Javan Rhinoceros and expedite them back before they cooled ? The thought of that kinda crap makes me furious. Over-capitalizing on people's pain and/or fear of dying is the lowest form of con robbery. Sorry but I had to get that out. Glad your sweety is on the mend, Al, and I'm sorry that y'all even had to go through that.
  22. So what's your theory on what the Seafoam actually did? Just for the record you can TRY to clean a dirty gummed up carburetor or fuel pump with Seafoam....but it doesn't work. Go ahead and soak it for days, swish it around or whatever but the crud blocking the passageways will still be there. As for hard carbon deposits, NOTHING just touches that stuff and makes it go soft and desolve. Not carb cleaner, not Seafoam, not DECARBONIZING ENGINE TUNER, ......Nothing except hot vaporized H2O (steam) assisted with picks, scrapers, and a stainless steel wire brush will remove carbon. If you think I'm bullshittin' ya I'll gladly send you an old piston with stuck rings, or an old exhaust tuner to experiment with. I promise I've tried everything. If by odd chance that running Seafoam through your fuel system truly improves how your engine runs I guarantee that it's only temporary, and that after your motor sits and cools back down your problems will come right back. Odds are that just running your motor through a gallons worth of fresh fuel with NO Seafoam would have resulted in the same outcome. Bottom line is that you simply ran it enough to get things warm and moving again. The added Seafoam did nothing but clear some mosquitoes out of your yard. So it was idling at 7-800 at first and is now idling at 1100 ?
  23. If the fuel has water in it, it gets removed and replaced here. I can't set idle mixtures or in any way "tune" a engine properly unless the fuel is reasonably fresh and free of contamination. And I consider any type of additive (Seafoam and Stabil included) as contamination.
  24. Spiders live in trees. Tie a hammock to two trees and you'll have at least two spiders, 7 ticks, 1200 chiggers, and 117 ants sleeping with you. You'll also wake up damp every morning from the falling dew drops. Even Tarzan knew better than to sleep in the trees.
