Boat Help- 25 Mercury- 2001
fishinwrench replied to Jason R.'s topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
First off you know it has to be in neutral to start, as it has START IN GEAR protection ? (Sorry, had to ask....some folks don't know that). The hot side of your starter solenoid will have 3 leads coming off of it, follow the smallest of the 3 red leads and you should find an inline fuse holder, or it may go to a terminal board with a plug-in fuse. Here's the bad news though.....Since the battery was hooked up backwards and you tried to start it you more than likely have blown the rectifier, so you'll need one of those now also. They aren't very expensive on that motor, luckily, but don't run it with a blown rectifier for more than a minute or you'll fry the charge coil..... and they AREN'T cheap. -
Here's one for all you dock owners.

I do that all the time and have never had anyone get uptight about it. Even had them come down and bring us beers. -

That's a tad confusing since there has been many trespassing citations written for being on someone's dock without permission. I guess most didn't know until now that the charge could easily be beat in court. Of course the fine is only 70.00 plus cost.....and a lawyer to beat the charge would cost 1000.00+. -
For a braid to flouro leader why not just use a loop to loop connection ? I've tested it and it is just as strong as anything else and should come through the guides just fine. No need to cut the braid when replacing leaders, you can even have spare leaders pre-tied. Just use a perfection loop on the braid (with a drop of super glue if you want) and your loop knot of choice on the flouro (also with a drop of glue).

Well they piss away plenty of money on other "feel good measures". No reason not to feel good about protecting smallmouth for a minute or two. Smallmouth don't cost them anything. No stocking, ect. so the least they can do is take some extra measures to protect them in any way they can. If they don't fear illegal gigging then why is it outlawed on Trout water ? I'll tell you why.....cuz those trout cost them a nickle to produce.

That'd be an odd way to stick it to them since all the conservation agents I know aren't into fishing at all. The ones I know are into things like RC cars/planes, pitching horse shoes and stuff like that. Fishing/hunting isn't even a hobby they partake in, so in all actuality they don't truly care. Just ask one sometime to show you a good knot, or ask them the difference between mono and flourocarbon/or braid, or how to tell the difference between a buffalo and a carp.... Odds are they will be clueless.

Even back when I was a kid up in Audrain co. and MDC was way less funded there was only one "game warden" per county. We all knew ours by his first name (Claude) and he had a reputation for being sneaky. So sneaky that he carried scars on his face/neck from being in the wrong place during a covey rise once. When he retired I was 16-17 and a pretty gal took his place (Pam M.) whose husband was the Sheriff. Pam didn't require much training, when she took over she already knew every trail into every strip pit and had keys to every gate. She introduced herself to everyone immediately and absolutely did her job well. That was back in the late 70's early 80's. When did MDC start getting thier extra sales tax money? Because agents like that don't seem to exist anymore, and there is still just one per county.

Look, it's a profiling thing. Nobody wants to just come out and say it because "judging a book by its cover" has become a bad thing to do. There are some guys that are into gigging that do it right, but there are more that don't. I can take one look at the boat (and the guys) and tell you which ones are which. And you and the MDC agents can too, let's be honest here. If I was getting paid a salary for such things I could darn sure bust some illegal giggers. Easily.

Trailer surge brakes
fishinwrench replied to nwmohunter's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
No, not at all. Trailer brake systems on fishing boat trailers are seldom operative after 5-6 years unless constantly maintained. I won't even work on them, it's a waste of time/money. Just drive a vehicle capable of stopping the rig without them and never depend on trailer brakes. -
They (MDC) could at least put up some clever signs..."yo Giggers, folks are tripping over your dead BASS, Knock it off or gigging may be outlawed". That would be more helpful than fishing line depositorys, or signs about didymo. Maybe put out a few articles informing giggers that MDC receives multiple reports of illegally gigged bass every year, and that if they do not start policing themselves then discussions will be had to end gigging as an Ozark tradition. Maybe include some tips on where suckers are likely to be and where bass are likely to be, and tips on how to tell the difference. Our buddy John N. would probably be happy to do a good piece on it. Basically just do something rather than nothing.

Dead gigged bass = data
-
Now we're talking! Good deal.
-
More likely dumped because by the end of the night they realized they were too drunk to clean fish.
-
YW, Glad all is as it should be now.
-
Boy they're good at it too. Stuck every one of them right on the dorsal. Whoever did that gets alot of practice, so he should know the difference between a sucker and a bass by now.
-
Noway, bro. It'll have to be after WPW or I won't have any fish to cook.

Mitch, extremist flyfishermen are spawned in crowded environments like trout parks and eastern chalk streams. Anywhere there is lots of people you have a percentage that feel the need to be above the rest. It's always us and the assholes. Violations of space. Segregation is bred into us all because we are crowded. Nobody cares what the guy 1/4 mile away is doing, but this asshole 1/2 cast away had better tow the line !

Typical Fathers day gift.

Rubio is such a puppet. Is he even a real human ?

Brown bivisable! Been a strong pattern for many years. It was catching trout all over the country way before anyone ever heard of a Crackleback. The original skater.

I'm definitely up for that ! Maybe a fish fry/beer bust? Sounds like a blast. I'll host it.

I barely suffered through high school, I hated studying things that didn't interest me, so college was completely out of the question. I thought I was going to make a living and be happy as a lark tourney fishing and guiding all my life. Then I had a kid and quickly realized that even during a really good year I was only one blown powerhead away from being homeless. I had qualified #13 in the state thru B.A.S.S. Federation and was headed for regionals, but a strong finish in the federation rank pays NOTHING, it was pretty much a money pit unless you make it all the way and THEN win the Classic. Fat chance, right? I really wanted to try it but now it wasn't just me, I had a little girl and a wife to consider. After some serious soul searching I gave that game up and invested 6k in training at MMI in Orlando. The one thing that worried me the most (blown powerhead) was the fear I'd learn to conquer. After schooling I still guided and fished local tournaments and worked at a LO Marina for 4 years and allowed them to pay for the additional training while I gained some important hands-on experience, and made them a buttload of money. Then during a Winter layoff 21 years ago it occurred to me that I was doing ALL the work that was keeping the Marina alive, so why not open my own shop and get ALL the money? I hit my dad up for a small loan and he helped me set up the legal end and register as a LLC. I wanted to name it "Fishinwrench Marine" (the nickname was picked up while working at the marina) but my dad said that was the stupidest F'n name he'd ever heard of and if I was gonna name it that then he wasn't helping me do $#it. He said that using your real last name as your business name forces you to always operate with integrity and honesty because NOBODY wants to tarnish their family name. Hmmm. Made sense, and I needed the help, so.....Sims Marine it was, and still is. So which President is best for a guy like me ?

YW Ive learned a thing or two from you also, so thank you too.
