  1. You can camp pretty much anywhere in there as long as you are not going over fences you wont have anyone mess with you.
  2. i have been doing pretty good after dark on white slider and purple swimming minnow with silver flake, i usually dont start catching to many till around 9- 9:30
  3. i fished the bend till about 9 tonight and didn't see anything.
  4. Canoe gets my vote as well, old town makes great canoes i have put a lot of miles in on a old town 168 they are wide, good seats, and a nice snap in third seat if you have kids to take with you, they are also one of the better tracking boats, other good boats to look at are Buffalo and Osage. You may check Silverhill canoe rental they use buffalo canoes and usually retire a few boats every year, The ones we have got off them weren't in that bad of shape and it may save you a couple of bucks. http://silverhillcanoe.com/Home_Page.php
  5. I hardly think reading something on a web forum is first hand... I was honestly just trying to stir this thread up a little more because i like to laugh and the idiocy of this personal vendetta against gigging, I am on the river quite often in fact i am looking out my back door at the james right now and i hardly ever see gigged bass. I would bet just about anything the reason you are seeing so many in your area is because some kids took daddy's boat out and went on a fish killing spree usually it is not hard to tell a bass from a sucker ( in good river conditions). And as far as thinking all gigger's and snagger's dumb white trash rednecks, That is just narrow minded egocentricity rearing its ugly little head.
  6. those bass must really be hurt by them gig marks if they were chasing a bait.....
  7. samaritan road is longs camp. its off 173 like if you were going to cape fair then turn left (if you are coming from galena area) on to walnut springs dr. follow that all the way down to james river rd. make another left and then its your next right going down the the river, there is a conservation sign, a ramp, and a small dock. you may wanna mapqest or google map it the road is pretty easy to miss
  8. 3 dollar holler lol i like that.. and yes longs camp is closed sadly i don't know for sure why it was closed but but the gate is up and locked : ( if you are looking for another access to launch or fish at you may try walnut springs, but if you do make sure to park in the parking lot, some of the people living around there think they are the only people who deserve to use that launch and dock and they have been known to have vehicles towed away for parking along the road.
  9. first! welcome to the thunderdome!
  10. they are really slow right now you cant even tell they are biting hardly the only way i was getting anything is by dragging a white slider along the bottom and when i could feel just a little bump i would slack my line and let them take off with it, got 4 more doing the same thing this evening.. but it is still pretty early in the season give it a few more weeks.
  11. i got 5 whites and 2 smallies just before dark on the rock bank down from blunks, And now that my rat killing is done im gonna head back down and see if i can do any good.
  12. no i know, i live on that stretch of river and fish out of my canoe a lot.. sometimes it seems like people try to swamp your boat.. its not to bad though you just gotta watch out for DB's and point your nose into the wake
  13. there is a ramp at mcCord but it is closed down, and y bridge is about 3.5-4 miles above blunks. Taylors is about 1 mi give or take a little up river from blunks if you have a 4x4 you can drive the trails up to taylors but if you do that watch the holes some are sticky. Im gonna go fish in the morning idk if i will make my way up to blunks though i will probably go down stream. and there really isn't much current at blunks the only thing that will be a problem for a kayak is bass boats rocking you around, but i havent been hearing many boats yet this year
  14. Oh yea a kayak would be perfect, This early on if i were fishing at blunks i would hit the chunk rocks right around that high line, But later on in the run the place to be is going to be the shoal just up from blunks.
  15. if you are on foot fishing at blunks there is a trail at the edge of the upper parking spot follow it down until you get to the chunk rocks/bluff from there on down both sides of the river is pretty good fishing, there is also a high line going across the river there right under it is where i catch all my bait fish when i am running lines and i usually hit that spot when i am fishing for whites.
  16. Cool thanks much.. there is just so much stuff to buy
  17. I just started tying a few months ago and i had been buying my stuff at bass pro but i am sure i can get the same thing for less even if i went the ebay route. And i was just wondering if a few people could direct me to some good websites
  18. umm pot growers are fine... but i did grow up with a twacked out father and he was crazy as dung, i had to take all the guns out of the house and live with my grandma because he wanted to shoot me for some reason.... meth heads aren't crazy my butt
  19. I am by far not a cat expert but i figure they are like any other animal the more human presence the more they become accustom to humans and less cautious, once they see humans as non threatening we could be viewed as a possible food source.
  20. Guns are like rubbers its better to have one and not need it then to need it and not have one. And i do know that there is a good chance of running into a dumb meth head on the river because not 3 miles from my house the water patrol found a meth lab 10 yards off the river bank, they had been set up for about a month and a half and i believe they were running my limb lines I also don't think every dumb butt should carry a pistol either CC fixes some of that when you take the class. i got my first gun on my tenth birthday and i am now a CC license holder my xdm .40 or walther ppq 9mm are usually with me but i rarely ever take them floating instead i bring my single shot .410 just to keep the snakes in check
  21. very nice i think i will make some up and try them on the whites. thank you for posting
  22. an easy way to tell dog from cat is a dogs claws are going to be in the track just about every time because unlike cats a dog cannot retract its claws
  23. looks pretty shallow this time of year. the pics make it look like more of a dragging trip then a float
  24. everyone knows armadiller hats block even the best brainwave scanners.. only Quakers use tinfoil...
  25. first! Good to have you sir, im new here as well and i live on table rock so i am looking forward to your jig recipes, i just started tying a few months ago so i have been looking all over the web for new jigs and flies i can try tying.
